Brayden - Today's the Day!

320 Words
It is finally the weekend I'm heading home! Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see my parents and my brother but what I'm most looking forward to on this trip is reuniting with Savannah Grace. I get up and follow my normal routine. The plan is to leave straight from work for the trip back. I'll help my dad out then head to training on Monday after seeing her. We've already worked out the details. She has to bring her car in for an appointment so she's dropping her son off at daycare and meeting me for coffee before her appointment. As I get up and get ready, I find that I'm actually a little nervous. I wonder if we will be able to pick up our friendship after so long or will it be awkward after everything? I still don't really understand what happened all those years ago. We really had something special, or at least I thought we did. I finish up my breakfast and head upstairs to brush my teeth and give goodbye kisses to my still sleeping family. When that's done, I grab my overnight bag and get in the truck. The whole way to work, my mind keeps drifting to Savannah Grace. All our memories together and everything that has happened in both our lives since then. We were just babies back then but we knew what love was and we knew our feelings for each other were real. I wonder what our lives would look like today if things had been different then. She seems happy and I love my family more than anything but I still can't help but think about the "What ifs". Despite driving the same way for years to where I'm almost on auto pilot, I miss my turn because my head was somewhere else. I get turned around and try focusing more on driving and less on daydreaming.
