CHAPTER XXV

969 Words
On the streets, things got worse by the day. More chaos were arising with each sunrise. If one did not know better, one would think that the devil had given birth and built a habitation on earth and needed to feed the off springs. The world was turning into his playground slowly with every single death on the streets and the gradual rise of chaos in the city. Someone needed to do something or the situation was getting out of hand. The following day, as the detective and her team were busy trying to get the connection between the death of the Minister and the other previous bodies they had found, Ruddick the forensic analyst had some more news for her. This time, a call was not enough to tell what he had just experienced. He had to go to the precinct to tell whatever he had found out that morning after reporting to work. Lucky enough for him, the detectives were still at the precinct and had not left yet. In fact, Detective Jean had reported to the precinct very early to try to see whether she could join the dots. His visit to the precinct came as a surprise to the detective too. In the past few days, she had a history of getting strange news from Ruddick via the phone. Upon seeing him, she just knew that the day was exceptional. Not exceptional in the sense of having good news but in the sense that, Ruddick’s visit meant she was about to receive very disturbing strange news. “Morning detective,” Ruddick saluted her. ”Good morning Ruddick, what brings you to the precinct this early today?” “I think you might want to sit down for this. Get your team with us as well.” “Okay Ruddick, just wait for me in the interrogation room as I get Detective John and the rest.” “Okay detective. You surely need everyone on this one.” Detective Jean got her crew and headed to the interrogation room where Ruddick was. “Okay Ruddick, everyone is here. How bad is your situation? Did someone threaten you or try to kill you?” “Far from that detective, but, you remember when I told you the dead bodies in the morgue did not have any agendas and had nowhere to go?” “Of course I do Ruddick but I thought that was a joke. What is it; did anyone find somewhere to go?” “If you should know detective, there are no jokes when it has to do with those bustards. If you stay in a morgue for as long as I have, you realize that they can just surprise you. I am afraid today one of them is missing and not just any one of them but… our newly found friend.” “Ruddick, this is serious. You mean the Minister’s body is not in the morgue?” “I wish I could say otherwise Jean but we may have a runner.” “Slow down Ruddick, were any of the doors broken or anything tampered with?” asked detective John. “No… there was no sign of forced entry. Everything was as I left it last night. If the door were broken, I would be reporting a break-in. I could not have come all the way here either. This is not good detective. You have to do something and fast.” “It’s okay Ruddick, but you have to understand that we are dealing with a dead body here and it’s not like we can put an APB on it. We have to reason why and who would want the Minister’s remains and for what.” “Meanwhile detective, as you search for your answers, I might need some officers to keep a watch on me. I am no longer safe. I fear for my life. I fear not the dead but I am afraid someone might want me with them soon.” “But you are always with them Ruddick?” David asked. “I mean…I am always with them but I also mean…with them as in…dead with them…meaning dead as them, or, just dead,” Ruddick said in confusion. “Come down. You do not have to worry Ruddick. No one is coming for you… relax. This is not a big deal. We shall get to it. In fact, I think we should follow you and have a look at the morgue. May be there is something you missed and that can help us to know who might have taken the body.” “I really hope you are right detective. So you know; I have a girlfriend of whom I wish to marry and have a family with some day. I don’t want to die without a legacy.” “Jonas, could you have seen any of whatever it is happening here? These dreams of yours seem to have gone on a recess these days. Is there something wrong?” “No detective… but to be honest, I am not sure myself. Although I was experiencing these dry spells before, I never thought they would come at such a time we need the visions than ever. On the contrary, my guts tell me that we might already have what we just need to crack the cases and hence no need for more visions.” “Okay, I will go with you on this one. However, be sure to let me know once you have another vision no matter how irrelevant you think it is. In fact, you should tell me everything you dream about. That includes those with your girlfriend. Let’s get going.” Jean told Jonas.
