CHAPTER 4Matt hesitated only a moment longer. Then he prepared for the drop. This was too big an adventure to miss because of a few little old laws more or less, he told himself. All he wanted was a fast look, to be sure of what he’d found. This wasn’t a big exploring bit. Anyway, you can’t always have a buddy along. If you want to be a caver so badly you hardly think of anything else, you can’t always depend on company. When you want to go caving, there may be no one to go with you.
Spotty would go caving all the time, Matt knew, but he was practically kept in prison by his parents who made him study or work. Besides, Spotty, even though his heart was in the right place, wasn’t exactly the outdoor type. When he did manage to sneak away, he tended to be more of a burden than a buddy.
