CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
The goblins led the companions down the stairway for nearly half an hour, passing many levels, each marked by torchlight revealing more cells with bolted doors. Their journey reached the bottom of the stairs, whereupon they were led to an immense cavern filled with piles of gold, silver, and copper coins, along with an array of jewelry and miscellaneous items of gold and silver. Goblets, candlesticks, harps, armor, and helms were the mainstay here, but other items lay upon the piles of treasure as well. Jeffrey, awed by the sights, forgot all about the fact they were in the custody of goblins and headed for trial.
