Chapter 12The volleyball game was already well underway by the time she joined them on the beach. Matty and Amber were on two separate teams, marked by their work shirts or their non-work shirts. The true skins angle had been left behind, most likely because two waitresses had also joined the group, along with Matty’s current partner, Bobby, and then finalizing with Selene. With only six people in total playing, and with the small courts on the beach itself, there wasn’t much room for another person.
It didn’t matter, though. Gil hadn’t come with the intention of playing—merely making herself known. She’d donned a hat as she walked to the beach, but since it made her feel too incognito, she took it off as she approached. She waved to get Matty’s attention—but it was only Amber who saw.
