Chapter 31Gil slept on her discovery. She had to be sure. After a long shift at the bar, where her arm smarted almost as much as her heart did, she finally went home. She ended up packing what little things she still owned into the same kind of banker boxes that held Tilly’s records. Gil made two piles, one for giveaway—most likely right back to Tilly, for the next stray to come in—and then another pile for the things she was keeping. And taking along with her. Gil looked at both piles for five minutes straight before she went to bed. Sleeping on it always helped. She gave herself the permission to go back on her word.
