The Hidden Hero

Chapter 3- We Were Attacked?

Alpha Brad POV

I am sitting in my office when I get a mind link from my head warrior and pack trainer, Gary.

Alpha, you may want to come to the training field now.

Why?

Julie has just run out of the woods screaming that two rogues attacked her.

What?! I will be right there. I say, breaking the link.

I stand up quickly and rush out of my office and downstairs to the front door. On my way out of the door I bump into my beta Mike.

“What’s the rush?” He asks me.

“There has been an attack of sorts.” I say, quickly filling him in as we both run towards the training field.

When we get there, it is madness as there are warriors running around all over the place trying to pick up scents or telling others to leave the area and stay out of the woods as they are unsafe.

I walk over to Gary and notice that Julie is standing with him, hugging his side and looking small. The state of her fills me with anger, her clothes are messy and her legs and feet all cut open from the ground.

How dare those rogues do this to one of my pack members?

“What happened Julie?” I ask.

“I was out in the forest just trying to find some herbs for some medicine I was making when I was attacked by two rogues.” Julie replies.

“What? How the hell did you get away?” I ask.

Julie may be a wolf, but she is not strong enough to take on two rogues and win. She might win against one if she was incredibly lucky, but Julie is a weaker wolf who prefers to heal others rather than fight them.

“I was helped by someone.” Julie replies.

“Who?” I ask aloud.

"I do not know, but they had really good marksmanship. They hit their targets every time." Julie goes on to explain, awe clear in her eyes.

"It could be that hero everyone has been talking about." Maike suggests, mumbling a bit to himself.

"What?" I ask.

“You’ve never heard of them?” Mike asks shocked.

“Nope.” I say, giving him my undivided attention.

“They are a legend around the country. I am surprised you haven't heard of them.” Mike continues.

“So who the hell are they?” I growl.

“The hidden Hero is what they are called and they appeared about two years ago or so. No one knows how they find people, how they know where to be and where to go, but whenever a major plan fails… at the centre is the hidden hero’s trademark.” Mike explains, hardly hiding his admiration for this unknown creature.

“What is their trademark? ” I ask.

“Nothing.” Julie pipes up.

“What do you mean?”

“Nothing is their trademark. All that remains is the c*****e, no weapons, no claw marks, no scent. Nothing. If not for the dead bodies, wounds or the blood, you would never know what happened. Which is why they are referred to as the hidden hero.” Mike explains.

“So, who is the hidden hero?” I ask.

“No one knows. All anyone knows is that they wear a navy mask with white eyes, outlines in gold and a mouth outlined in silver. That is all anyone has ever seen.” Mike informs me.

“So why are they on our territory?” I ask.

“Who knows but be thankful, Brad. If not for them, then we would have lost a pack member today,” Mike says.

I nod my head, thinking to myself about who it might be. I feel uneasy thinking that someone was able to come onto my territory without me knowing, that does not sit well with me. I will have to have a look into our security formations and improve them, after all it is not like this HH person is a member of my pack.

“Where did the attack take place?” I ask Julie.

Once Julies gave me a rough idea of where it happened, Mike and I head off into the forest to the location to see what we can find.

I know we have arrived when I see two bodies lying on the ground. One by a tree and one where it fell. I look around and see that there are no traces of another person being here, except for Julie and the two dead rogues.

“Do you get the feeling something isn’t right here?” I ask,

“There is no fourth presence. I told you the trademark was nothing. I guess the hidden hero is close by.” Mike says, making me sigh.

“Or they are just an urban legend. For goddess’s sake Mike, do you think we can just pretend like that didn’t come out of your mouth and you could be a beta?” I ask annoyed.

“What has your boxers in a twist?” Mike asks me.

“If what Julie says is true, then we have an unaffiliated wolf lurking around our pack for who knows what reason? Doesn’t that worry you?” I ask incredulously.

“No, because if they wanted to do us harm then we would be dead by now.” Mike replies with such a straight face that I just want to punch him.

“Well, I am personally alarmed. I want a full lockdown until this person is found. And I want these bodies inspected.” I instruct.

Anne POV

When Alpha Brad called for me to come back, he was surprised to find that the timid girl sent away came back with a mouth and a punch to back it up. He tried to make me submit and use physical force to make me, but he ended up limping away with a fractured leg, a busted lip, a punch to the eye and his ego in tatters.

I enjoyed learning to train, after all the Gen Pack would not let me as they were worried that I would end up getting hurt. But in the Bird Pack they used that to their advantage. Those that had no wolves got specialised training in weapons- mainly silver weapons. So, even if they were not good at weapons, they would be able to protect themselves just by being able to use silver.

I, however, flourished in the training and really took to the arrows and the guns. I worked hours every day to hone the skills, and even when I returned to my home pack I continued to practice in secret until some warriors saw me in the forest.

At first, they thought I was in danger and tried to intervene, but then they realised that I was practising and asked me to attack them. Which I did, with my training bows, bullets and daggers. And each attack I made landed a hit every time. After that, the warriors asked me to train some of them in the art of weaponry and I did, but we keep it from Alpha Brad as he would take away my weapons. But the incident in the woods today may have just ruined my secret, I can only hope that Alpha Brad does not find out who I really am.
