Alpha Brad POV
According to the two medical records on my desk, the rogues died from a kill shot to the head and chest. The shot was clear and precise, whoever shot them knew exactly what they were doing.
Whatever killed them was coated in enough silver to kill three fully grown wolves with just a scratch. Those two rogues never stood a chance. I must admit, I take my hat off to the person who was able to carry out such a precise attack on two moving targets. It would have been no easy feat. After all, they did it with silver and made sure that Julie was not injured in the crossfire.
The doctor believes that the weapon used was an arrow, as it would match with the wound at the back of the rogues’ injuries and then the big hole at the front would be consistent with someone pulling out the arrow. It matches.
My mind goes to Anne, she was seen that morning practising with bows and arrows. Could she have done it?
No, I shake my head clear of the ridiculous thought. She is just a pathetic-wolf-less girl, practically human and useless. They say she is a weapons expert but I have yet to see her fight. I think she is all bark no bite to be honest. And when she turns eighteen tomorrow I will be banishing her from this pack; I already have her mother and father's permission. The only person I have not told yet is Mike, and I am putting that off until the last moment.
Mike has always stood up for her, and fights her corner like nobody else I have ever seen. But then again, the whole pack seems to adore her but I don’t know why. She is an embarrassment to this pack, and to werewolves as a whole.
She is weak and pathetic, and not worth even breathing the same air as us. I don’t have anything against those that don’t have a wolf, but she seem to use it to her advantage. At least that is what her parents say.
I exit my office and head towards the stairs, planning on telling Mike about the medical report and the causes of deaths. It appears that the rumours about the hidden hero being here are founded. We have someone who we could recruit into our pack and use their strength and power to our advantage.
If they don’t join willingly, then I will make them. All we have to do is find out who they are and where they are, which shouldn’t be too hard as they would have had to book into the local hotel in the human settlement nearby. So, I will send someone over to the hotels to get their sign in logs.
I hear a high-pitched shriek coming from the stairs and I quickly pick up my pace to get to the stairs. I react on instinct and rush forward to stop her falling down the stairs.
The sparks between us make me moan in pleasure, until the person looks up at me and my happiness is short lived.
Anne POV
My birthday is tomorrow and it is the day I may find my mate. Not that I am interested in that. After all, why would I want to be tied to someone for forever? That sounds horrid to me.
Maybe when I am older, yes, but why should others choose my life for me? Maybe it is because I don’t have a wolf that I don’t desire them bonds, I am happy with the way my life is now and I would be happy to continue to live this way for the foreseeable future.
But fate always has other plans.
I am heading down to the front door of the pack house after running up to my brother’s office to grab some paper for him. The paper is stashed inside my jacket so that it does not get noticed by anyone or ruined by the rain outside.
I tend to avoid the packhouse at any cost, but Mike begged me to grab these papers for him. Mumbling something about pack security and needing these papers to prove a point to someone.
I stopped listening when he offered to buy me a new dagger when he is next in town, I was out of the door and at his office within minutes.
I am thinking about the kind of dagger I am going to ask him for when I get home, so deep in my thoughts that I am not taking in any of my surroundings at all.
I let out a shriek as my foot misses the step near the bottom and I go tumbling down.
Before I hit the floor however, strong arms grab hold of me in an embrace.
The feeling of sparks fill my body and I start to feel myself relax into them and the person. I can see what people mean by the mate bond is wonderful, I don’t want these sparks to ever stop as they fill me warmth and the feeling of love.
But then I recognise the clothing and my heart sinks.
Oh s**t! Oh no, anyone but him! I think to myself, feeling a sinking feeling when I look up at the person who caught me.
I look up and see no other than Alpha Brad. I see the shock and then horror on his face of being mated to me, and soon the feeling of the sparks are gone as he lets me continue the fall.
“Ha, as if I would be mated to such an abomination. You are wolf-less, and you won’t tell anyone about this.” He says to me.
“As if I would shout from the rooftop that my mate is such a self-pretentious jerk. I just hope we aren’t really mates and them sparks was just my imagination.” I say, turning away from a fuming Alpha Brad and walking away.
