Jenna roused herself from her funk as the Defender drew close enough to the Tagrale for it to be within sensor range. She’d barely been aware of time passing. A dark heaviness had settled into her mind, near despair at the thought of having missed her one chance to escape the system. She’d become convinced the alien ship would be able to get the Tagrale working. Her only hope was that it would take them longer than it took her to catch them up, but she didn’t really believe that would happen.
