Chapter 43

1013 Words

I could feel Ryan turning the van into a parking space inside the Pause building's garage. Then he cut the motor. Complete silence settled inside the van. "Okay, Kendra," Ryan muttered. "Give me what I need." "We're on speed dial on your super phone in case your earpiece or microphone shorts out," she said, her voice trembling. "Don't touch the interference cube unless you want a camera to see you. It's already on." "Mm-hm." Ryan got out of the van. The slam of his door echoed around us. "Be careful," I whispered, my strawberry-flavored microphone carrying the message to him. From my vantage point from the floor of the van, I could only see other vans parked on both sides of us and part of a fluorescent light hanging from the ceiling. I didn't dare lift an eyebrow to see any more.
