He turned to laura, his tone calm but commanding. stay here. before she could argue, he was already gone, his steps purposeful, deadly quiet. Laura sank onto the edge of the desk, her mind spinning. who could it be? No one knew where she worked, no one from her old life, unless..... She clasped her trembling hands together. For the first time, She wasn't just scared of whoever was downstairs ........ she was scared of what Ray might do to them. The music downstairs was slower now, softer........ But tension vibrated through the air like a wire pulled too tight. Ray moved through the club with that quiet, dangerous grace that made people step a side without being told. His men followed at a distance, their eyes sweeping the room. At the bar, a man sat hunched over a half empty glass. He looked out of place his clothes were worn, his eyes sharp but tired. who's he? Ray asked under his breath. Name's Leo, one of the guards murmured. Claimed he used to work with her .... said he's got something she needs to know. Ray's jaw tightened. work with her. That could mean anything. He approached the man, stopping just closer enough to cast a shadow over him. you're looking for someone. Leo looked up, startled......and froze when he saw who he was facing. I.....I didn't mean trouble. I just need to see Laura. How do you know her? Ray asked his tone like ice. Leo hesitated. We came here together. from the same city. She......she thought she'd be a waitress. But they tricked her. Ray 's eyes narrowed , who's they? The agency that brought us. They promised jobs real ones , but sold our contracts to clubs like this. She was lucky to end up here. The rest of us weren't. For a moment , silence. Ray's expression didn't change, but something flickered behind his eyes .... fury, cold and controlled. why now? he asked. why come looking for her? Leo swallowed. Because they're still looking for her too. The one who ran the deal.... they lost money when she left the old place. they want her back. Ray's jaw clenched. They wont touch her. Leo looked up, desperate. you don't understand who you're dealing with.... I understand perfectly. His voice was quiet but lethal. you came to my club, asking about my woman. That means you talk to me , and no one else. Leo blinked, '' your .... woman? Ray didn't flinch. you heard me. He turned to one of his men. Get his ID. Find out if he's telling the truth. Then, to Leo : You stay right here. one wrong move, and you'll regret it. As he walked away, his phone buzzed a message from upstairs. Laura: is everything okay? He stared at the screen for a moment before typing back: Ray: stay where you are . Don't open the door for anyone but me. Then he looked back at Leo, who sat trembling under the weight of a dozen watchful eyes. if what this man said was true..... someone had sold her. And someone was going to pay for it. Laura pov Laura sat on the edge of the couch, her hands curled around a cup of tea she hadn't even touched. The room felt too quiet, too still even with muffled bass from down stairs. She glanced toward the door. The guard he'd post outside hadn't moved an inch since Ray left. That alone told her something wasn't right. She picked up her phone a gain, reading his message. '' Stay where you are. Don't open the door for anyone but me. '' Her stomach tightened. what was happening downstairs? She rose and crossed to the window, peeking through the curtain. The street beyond the club was nearly empty - just a few cars, the glow of neon signs, the hum of late - night air. Nothing unusual. But the silence inside made every sound sharper: footsteps in the hallway, low voices through the floorboards, the hum of electricity. Then - faintly , she heard it. A voice she didn't recognize. Male, rough, desperate. ''....... just need to see her, '' the voice said. And then another voice - colder, steadier. His. Her breath caught. She couldn't make out every word, but she heard enough: sold.....agency.... contracts... promised jobs..... Each phrase hit her like a punch. Her chest tightened. He was about her past ,the one she had buried so deep she could barely breathe when she thought of it. Her hand trembled as she covered her mouth , trying not to make a sound. That voice -the desperate one it wasn't a stranger. it was someone from before. Leo. She hadn't heard that name in months, may be a year . he had been one of the few kind face back then, before everything turned dark. She backed away from the door, shaking. If he was here, it meant they were close -the people who once owned her , the ones who made her dance, who kept her trapped with fake debts and silent threats. The air felt thinner, her pulse loud in her ears. Then the door handle moved - just slightly. She froze. Laura? It was his voice. calm, low. The only one she trusted to open that door. She rushed to unlock it, but he stopped her with a hand on the other side . Don't open it yet, he said quietly. they might still be outside. i need you to listen first. Something in his tone - sharp but protective , made her nod even though he couldn't see it. Did you hear anything? he asked. she hesitated. I heard you talking to Leo. A pause. Then, softer, he told you the truth, didn't he ? She couldn't hold the tears anymore, her voice trembling. yes, everything he said ....its real. He exhaled , not in surprise, but in fury contained so tightly it felt like the room itself vibrated with it. I'm not letting them touch you, he said. '' Not now, not ever. Before she could speak, the lock turned - and the door opened. he stood there, his expression unreadable under the dim light, but when he saw the tears in her eyes, he pulled her into his arms, it wasn't just protection anymore. it was a silent vow.
