Not a physical fight — she would have been called, or Professora Andreia would have called. This was the other kind: a falling-out with Beatriz over the rock collection, which had grown from its November summit into a collaborative ongoing project, and which had arrived at a point of disagreement specific enough that both children had stopped speaking.
She found out on a Wednesday afternoon at pickup, when Daniel came out alone instead of with the loose cluster of Beatriz and two others he usually came out with, and his face had the specific expression of someone managing something they weren't going to bring up themselves.
