CHAPTER 1- A GOOD DAY TO BE ALIVE
After my 2 am to 6 am duty in a convenience store I hurried to go home. I rode my bike and feel the cold breeze of the air as the sunrise is approaching. Some stores are starting to open and the street is getting livelier. I encountered a guy riding a bicycle shouting pandesal as I crossed the street of Makiling. My house is around the corner so I stopped in an old home. It seems trash but for me, it's the coziest place. I love being there with my parents and my two younger siblings.
"Maynard, your home! Hurry! You'll be late!" Meymey said opening the door for me. She is already dressed in her school uniform. Meymey and Mark are both in Elementary while it's my first day in Senior High.
"Good morning" I said and tapped her head. She hates it.
"Mom!!! Maynard messed my hair!"
"Oh, you're home. Come, eat and get ready for school darling" My Mom kissed my cheek as we continue to walk towards the kitchen where my Dad is sipping his black coffee. He looks at me and smiles then returns to reading his daily newspaper.
My Dad isn't talkative and friendly like other dude's guys but I know that his small gestures are his way to show his love to us.
I had my bacon and egg for breakfast which is unusual because we often had bread, butter, and milk. Today seems like a fine day. Meymey and Mark wave us goodbye when their school bus came. They smiled happily and I truly appreciate that. I always believe that appreciating small things in life is important. They bring true happiness and satisfaction.
"I also have to go" Father stood up and wore his coat. He works in a newspaper company as an editor. My Mom hurried and kiss him and that's gross. Anyways, Dad leaves with his car. It's a company car that he's been using since he was always assigned in different places.
I went to my room and fix myself. I had a blue blazer and white inner long sleeves. I also comb my brown curly hair and give my reflection in the mirror a smile.
I look good. That's just affirmation! But yeah, who cares. I live by the saying fake it 'til you make it. I've been faking the thoughts that I looked good for years now but I haven't seen any improvement.
Maybe I have to fake it for more years.
"Mom, I'm going!" I run on the stairs to my bike outside the house where my sweet Mom is waiting.
"Good luck in school, darling" she offered me my lunch and I said thanks. I rode my bike and I love the sunlight that's been kissing my skin. I love its warm sensation. I looked up at the sky and see that it's beautiful.
What a good day to be alive!
I'm almost at my school. It will take another turn and I will be having a new adventure as a senior high stu---
(PEEEEEPPPPPP!)
I saw the light flashes before my eyes as a black van hit my bike. I can't see them... I'm losing my consciousness but I felt two big men carrying me inside the van...
"S-stop" I lost my voice and strength at the same time. Before everything turns black I saw my family smiling and I don't know... My body hurts... I don't know what's happening... but those smiles.. It felt satisfying.
