You're Ours Forever

Hayes I was fulfilling my duties as alpha to the pack, but I felt the weight of it all, especially since I didn't have a luna by my side, despite her presence in the pack. Last night had been enjoyable, but I wondered if that was merely because she was drunk. Ruby and Zylon were training in the field, and he mind-linked me to report that it was going well. I was lost in my thoughts when someone knocked on my office door. Tate entered, and Shane entered. "Another pack has been attacked in the east by rogues," Tate reported. I sighed. The rogue attacks had been becoming increasingly frequent. According to the advisory council, the rogues had a leader—a middle-aged alpha named Doe Aleksandr—who had been banished from a northern pack due to his crimes against the supernatural world. He had a dark heart and an insatiable thirst for power. Doe Aleksandr was determined to conquer all the packs for himself and was searching for a weapon, although no one knew what that weapon was. The advisory council had sent their best men after him, hoping to end his life before he could create more chaos, but he was elusive, like a ghost. "And their alpha?" I asked. "He's alright. Fortunately, our people arrived in time to help, along with Alpha Henry's," he informed me. "There's an Alpha summit in Washington, D.C., to discuss this. We haven't been told the date yet, but the wolf king will be there," he said. I scowled at the mention of the new king. I didn't like him. No one did; there were rumors that he had ordered the deaths of his cousin and family to ascend to the throne. However, there was no evidence against him, and as the only surviving relative of the former king, he had taken the throne. We left the headquarters to search for some documents in my father's old office. After retrieving them, we discussed the attacks in more detail. I hadn't noticed their scents sooner. My mate and Zylon had been standing nearby, eavesdropping. I silently cursed Zylon for not alerting us sooner. I didn't want my mate to hear about the rogue attacks and start to worry. She was asking numerous questions, clearly concerned about the pack. Even though she claimed this wasn't her pack anymore and wanted to return to Jade Moon, she was still a luna at heart, and the safety of her people was her priority. We were laughing when Begonia approached me, kissing my lips and touching me inappropriately. I pushed her away and jumped back, panic coursing through me. I glanced at my mate, and she was fuming, glaring at the two girls. "Look, baby, I know the return of your mate is exciting and all, but come on, this b***h will never make you feel the way I do," Begonia said, and we all growled at her. "Don't disrespect my mate," I warned. She jumped back slightly but chuckled softly. Now that I looked at them, the girls seemed drunk. "Yes, Zylon, please get back to your senses! You promised me that I would be your mate!" Mary yelled. Zylon turned to Ruby with a pleading gaze, silently begging her not to believe Mary. "Don't listen to her, Ruby. She and I were done a long time ago," Zylon said. He was right. We had ended our 'relationship' with the girls even before Ruby returned. However, they acted like leeches. "Begonia, Mary, respect yourselves and go home," Shane growled. Begonia rolled her eyes. "I should be Luna, not her. How many times do I have to say it? Hayes will get tired of boring, plain, stupid Ruby, and I will be here..." Her words suddenly died in her throat and were replaced by a horrid scream as she went flying across the yard into a tree. Begonia was hanging upside down, her leg caught between the branches. She was screaming. We all stared at Begonia in shock, then turned back to my mate; she was fuming, her body shaking, and her eyes narrowed into slits. She had discovered another magical talent—two! The weather changed abruptly, from bright blue skies to dark clouds, and the wind picked up as if a storm was about to hit. ” I… don't know how that happened... but this boyfriend-stealer slut is responsible!” Mary shouted, and tried to hide behind Zylon, but Ruby punched her in the face. Blood oozed from Mary's nose as she fell to the ground unconscious. It wasn't planned as Zylon and I hugged Ruby at once, putting her tiny frame between us. She took a deep breath, inhaling our scents, and finally began to calm down. Slowly, the clouds began to clear, and blue skies replaced them. The wind died down, and then we heard a thud. We turned our heads to see that Begonia had fallen from the tree where she had been hanging. From the sounds she was making, it was clear that she had broken more than one bone. Ruby suddenly pushed me away from her. "Just how long will this keep happening?" "We're not involved with them. It wasn't even a relationship like that," I explained desperately, hoping she would understand. "A relationship like that?" she scoffed. "So, you just had s*x with them?" She glared between Zylon and me. We went pale. "No! It was a relationship... not just s*x, yeah, but we..." Zylon stammered. It was the first time I had seen him panic and struggle for words. "I need a walk. I can't look at your stupid ass faces," she murmured and turned away. We followed her closely, trying to explain ourselves. "Please, love, don't be angry. Believe us," she stopped walking and rose her eyebrows. "Why would I do that?" "Because we're telling the truth. Those girls don't mean anything to us. They are the past. You are our present and future, you mean the world to us," Zylon explained. "You're ours forever," I added. She was. She was. Forever ours. She seemed to contemplate our words and slowly nodded her head. Ace howled in happiness. Our mate believed us, and not only that, she was slowly accepting our bond! Her reaction was one of jealousy! "Keep those girls away from me because I will kill them, and I'm too pretty to go to jail," she murmured, and we nodded in agreement. I needed to deal with Mary and Begonia. They were about to ruin our chances! What I didn't expect happened next. Ruby gave us the warmest smile, and soft dimples appeared on her cheeks. Her simple gesture made my legs feel weak. Zylon's eyes widened, and a smile spread across his face as well. Ace took over momentarily and pulled Ruby into my arms and kissed her. She kissed me back slowly and softly. The kiss was sweet and gentle, feeling otherworldly. She placed her palm on my chest and pulled back gently, saying, "Let's not run before we can walk." I nodded curtly, still trying hard to hide my excitement.
