Whispers of the Tide

New beginnings

Diving into the water my bare legs started to knit together to form my shining teal fin.

My silver hair fanned around my face exposing my firm round breasts. Danni, joining me in the shallows breathed a sigh of relief. She was terrified of the surface.

 “Do you want me to come with you babe? Moral support?” 

“This is something I need to do on my own. Thank you. You are a wonderful friend.” I gave her a light hug before we parted ways. Approaching the palace, I knew my father would be in his study. As I came around the corner towards his door, I noticed the door ajar and voices coming from inside. 

“Don’t worry Talian, Serene just needs to be reminded of her duty and her destiny. She is to be queen. Since her mother passed, we have been waiting for her to come of age to take the throne.” My father was obviously not happy with the outcome of the proposal. 

“Your Majesty, I don’t know what to say, she just said “no” and took off! I’m in just as much shock as you are. Maybe the ring wasn’t big enough.” 

“Talian, do not worry yourself son. I will work on her. She will be yours.”

 I had heard enough. I was absolutely devastated. Why were they meeting about me in such a way? I know when I turn twenty one I am to be Queen, I know the kingdom is relying on me. 

My mother was a free spirit, and had story after story to share from a time before she took the crown. How am I meant to rule without knowing about the world? 

I couldn’t listen a minute longer and I wouldn’t be subjected to people trying to talk me into this marriage, even if it was my own father. I quickly turned and fled. 

Talian's POV:

I couldn’t believe she had turned me down! After all the time, all the patience I had shown, she said no?! I was beyond stunned. I treated her like the royal she was, pandered to her wants and desires and still she refused me.

 I had been sticking it out for the title and power, but along the way I did in fact fall for her. I feel like such an i***t. If it wasn’t for all the women I had been seeing, the s****l frustration would have driven me mad. She thinks I have been waiting for her, I’m ashamed to admit I led her to believe that. But with the little physical contact she gave me, what else was I meant to do? 

After speaking with her father, who reassured me he would support me in changing her mind, I found myself in Danni’s bed. The brunette was easy on the eyes and took care of me. It did help that she was Serene’s best friend to enable me in getting the inside scoop.

 “How could she say no Danni?! I can’t believe it! How?!” I’ve been working on this for over a year, I thought it was a sure win! She should feel lucky that I’m even interested!” 

“Talian, relax babe. Sit back and let me take care of you.” Danni whispered into my ear as she worked on the knots in my shoulders. 

“What did she say to you? Did she tell you why she refused me?” 

“Babe, she’s just feeling overwhelmed. Maybe her f*****g off is a good thing. It will give us time to just be the two of us. No stress, no princess to swim off and help, just me and you and lots of fucking.”

 Danni dipped her lips to my neck and ran her hands over my shoulders and down my chest.

 “Danni you know how important this is! I could be king! I need to be king! I am the rightful ruler, f**k the politics of woman ruling. It’s time for a new era. And, Serene is the most beautiful woman in the kingdom.”

 I ignored Danni’s flinch at my words as she continued to suck, kiss and lick my exposed flesh.

It was a fact. Serene was admired far and wide for her unique beauty. It wouldn’t go amiss if I landed not only the heir to the throne but the the most beautiful goddess of the seas too. I will have her!

 *Two Months Later*

 Serene POV:

 “Serene, Serene? Hey hun, your break is over. Time to get back to it, I would be quick if I was you, Harry is on the warpath.”

Lexi, my new human friend and coworker gently brought me out of my day dream.

I was stretched out on the sand outside the hotel I now worked at. Making the most of my twenty minute break by listening to the waves crash on the beach and relishing the feeling of the sun warming my skin. 

After realising my father would most likely be against me exploring the world to find myself, I headed to the surface before anyone knew to look for me. I knew I would need someone to sleep and eat. The hotel I came across  in a small tourist town called Valvere, offered staff accomodation and had a vacancy in their housekeeping department.

 Although I’m Mer-royalty, my mother always felt it was important to teach me how to keep a home and do the jobs that are required to keep that household running. So making beds and doing light cleaning was no trouble at all. However, on land I am pretty clumsy and that can make blending in pretty difficult at times. 

“Thank you Lex, I was starting to nod off there for a minute!” I got up and dusted the sand off my high waisted denim shorts and white uniform polo shirt. I had put my waist length, silver hair into a long braid over my shoulder to keep it out of the way.

 “Come on Serene, my shift is nearly over. I will head back to our room and make us some dinner.” It was then that I realised it was almost sunset. I glanced over at the ocean to see the sun had started to paint the sky a mixture of oranges and pinks. 

“Lex, you are wonderful. I’m not off until six o’clock so I will see you then.” I called over my shoulder as I headed back to the accommodation. When I was clocking out Harry, my boss came over.

 “Serene, I need you on the tour boat first thing tomorrow morning. Ben, the deck hand has called in sick and I need someone to cover housekeeping and lunch during the tour.” I began to dispute this, but before I could even suck in a breath, 

“Don’t even try Serene, I need you to do this. no but’s.” And off he stormed. 

Crap! I could not afford to risk humans seeing me if I got too close to the water. There was also the case of the royal guards that are most likely looking for me right now. Running my hand over my face, I headed to the private cove to swim and calm my nerves. I can only hope tomorrow will go off without a hitch and I can return from the tour without any drama.
