Sophia's POV. I anxiously paced back and forth, my heart racing with anticipation, waiting for the signal from Mrs. Smith. The room was dimly lit, filled with a mixture of excitement and fear that coursed through my veins. I couldn't wait to get away from this he'll hole. As I glanced around, I noticed the small stash of clothing I had managed to gather—a meager assortment of hand-me-downs from my mother, graciously allowed by my so-called father, who spared no expense in reminding me of my insignificance. The clock struck midnight, and I had carefully prepared a cup of tea for my father, laced with sleeping pills, ensuring his deep slumber. I knew all too well that my destiny would be sealed if he caught wind of my escape. My survival depended on evading his grasp, a dangerous game that carried dire consequences with every move I made. In the shadows, I caught a glimpse of Mrs. Smith's silhouette, patiently hiding from the prying eyes of any potential guards. We had devised this plan meticulously, one that required precision and a dash of luck, as she played her part in preparating my leave to New York, where her daughter resided. She promised me a life filled with care and compassion, a world far removed from the torments I endured under my father's iron grip. Though I wanted Mrs. Smith to accompany me, to escape the clutches of my tyrannical father together, she dismissed the idea. She feared that our joint disappearance would raise suspicions, exposing us. Her concern for my safety was paramount, even at the cost of her own freedom. "Sophia," she called softly, beckoning me to her side. Her voice carried a tender warmth that enveloped me in a comforting embrace. "Listen carefully," she whispered, her eyes filled with both determination and concern. "Take this money. It will be your lifeline for transportation and sustenance. Follow this side of the woods; it will guide you to the main road, where you can catch a bus. And remember, keep your hood up to avoid attracting attention in the nearby village." I nodded, gratitude and tears welling up in my eyes. "Thank you," I managed to say, my voice choked with emotion. She smiled, her actions affirming her love and care for me. With a gentle touch, she placed a kiss on my forehead. "You are deserving of every happiness, my child. May life bestow upon you the blessings you've been denied for so long." The tears cascaded freely down my cheeks as I tightly embraced her, already missing her. She reciprocated the hug, her genuine affection providing a fleeting comfort from the harsh reality that lay before me. "Now, my dear, go. Run and never look back," she whispered, an urgent plea in her voice. I nodded once more, stealing one final embrace before mustering all my courage and sprinting into the dense woods, my heart pounding with every rapid footstep. As I rushed deeper into the dense woods, my heart raced with anticipation. I knew I had to be cautious, stealing glances here and there to ensure that I wasn't being followed. I couldn't afford to take any risks, not in the slightest. With every step, my legs grew increasingly weary, and my breath labored, rising and falling heavily. Halfway through my daring escapade, I decided it was prudent to take a momentary rest, allowing my breath to steady and my muscles to rejuvenate. Amid the solitude of the wilderness, far removed from the familiarity of the village, I couldn't help but ponder the consequences of my actions. "s**t! Sophia," I whispered to myself with a bittersweet smile. Finally, I was free, but now I questioned if it truly lay within my grasp. Suddenly, the sound of approaching footsteps pierced the stillness. My heart pounded in my chest, and without wasting a moment, I sprang to my feet, resolved to continue my desperate flight. However, before I could gather my bearings, they closed in on me with unwavering speed. My eyes widened in disbelief as a group of roguish figures materialized before me. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" one of them taunted, his lips curling into a smug smirk. "You're quite the catch, my lady," chimed in another with a mischievous gleam in his eyes. "We should bring her to Sire; he'd like her ," added yet another, fueling the knot of apprehension coiling within my chest. My heartbeat thundered in my ears, drowning out any semblance of reason. "Please, let me go," I stammered, my fear betraying me as my words faltered. Their laughter reverberated through the air, amplifying my panic. "All right, you may," one of them gestured mockingly, an unexpected wave of relief washing over me. As I rose from the ground where I had taken refuge, a strong grip seized my trembling hand, abruptly halting any hope of escape. "Alright, princess, time to go," the captor sneered, his tone laden with menace. I mustered every ounce of strength to resist, attempting to wriggle free from his grip. "Let me go!" I pleaded, resorting to a desperate strike to an exposed vulnerability in his defences, causing him to curse and groan in pain. But my efforts proved futile, as his iron grip refused to relent. Panic surged through my veins as I took off running once more, determined to outpace my captors. Yet, before realization sank in, I was forcefully tackled to the ground, the impact rattling my bones. "You insolent wench! You will pay dearly for this!" he spat venomously, his rage pulsating through every word. The blow he unleashed upon my face sent waves of searing pain coursing through me, eliciting a cry of agony to escape my lips. "Easy there, Xandar," one of his companions interjected hastily, stepping in to prevent further harm. "We mustn't present Sire with a damaged prize," he cautioned, coercing him to cease his assault. Xandar hissed with rage, his anger still palpable, but momentarily restrained and then all of a sudden he was back on me giving me a hard and final blow which caused me to black out. Fuck!
