Chapter Three

1007 Words
Sophia's POV. I let out a hiss, struggling to get up from the ground as I roam my stare around my surroundings in the dimly lit lot. My hand instinctively went to my head, detecting the throbbing pain of a headache. Confusion flooded my mind. What had transpired? Memories came rushing back, causing my eyes to well up with tears. Dread washed over me as realization hit me —I had been abducted by the Rouges. Overwhelmed by emotions, a sob escaped my lips. I couldn't allow myself to stay trapped in this place; I had to find a way out, no matter what it took. Summoning every ounce of strength, I pushed myself off the ground, determined to find an exit. To my utter astonishment, my attempt to move forward was met with a harsh impact against solid metal. It was a cage—a barrier preventing my escape. Disheartened, I crumpled back onto the ground, wincing in pain. Desperation overcame me, and I clutched onto the cold bars, shaking the cage with all my might. "Please, someone, help me!" I shouted, my voice cracking with despair. Tears streamed down my cheeks, my pleas falling on deaf ears. As reality sank in, a sense of hopelessness engulfed me. Everything seemed bleak, and I couldn't fathom how I would ever escape from this nightmare. In a time of great struggle, where hope felt far away, I faced new obstacles. It seemed like fate was against me, bringing one difficult situation after another. I briefly felt hopeful about escaping and finding freedom, but destiny had other plans. I was taken by ruthless kidnappers. I pondered the grim fate that lay ahead, imagining the torment and suffering that awaited me in the hands of these rogues. Dread washed over me, cascading through my being like a tidal wave. The weight of their intentions bore down upon my trembling lips, leaving me unable to articulate my fears. Suddenly, a voice shattered the silence, slicing through the air with an icy edge. "Suck it up! No one is coming," it declared, jolting me from my thoughts. Startled, I turned towards the source of the sound, only to find a lady worn down by the ravages of time, possibly even older than myself. With trepidation, I mustered the courage to speak. "Who are you?" I inquired, my voice quivering. "It doesn't matter," she replied, her tone filled with an unmistakable chill. As confusion mingled with fear within me, I pressed further. "Were you also taken captive?" I murmured. A bitter chuckle escaped her lips, revealing the agony she had endured. "Why else would I be here?" she replied, her response laced with pain and resignation. Empathy welled up inside me as I drew closer to her, taking in the sight of her emaciated form and weary countenance. Her sapphire eyes teeming with fear and suffering. "How long have you been imprisoned in this wretched place?" My curiosity betrayed a mix of dread and disbelief. She hesitated, as if contemplating whether to reveal the truth. "I have lost count. It could be a month, or maybe two," she finally confessed, her voice tinged with grief. My breath caught in my throat, the weight of her words crashing down upon me. The notion of enduring captivity for such an indefinite period sent shivers down my spine. Could I also be subjected to this torment for an extended duration? No, I refused to accept such a fate. It couldn't be happening. Determination welled up within me, propelling me to find an escape route with newfound urgency. "Tell me, what have they done to you?" Tears streamed freely down my face, my voice choked with grief. A bitter smile crossed her face, betraying suffering etched into her very being. "What are they best at? Inflicting pain, torment, and anguish," she replied, her words heavy with bitter truth. My heart constricted, overwhelmed by a torrent of fear and despair. The realization of our impending doom sent me spiraling, breaking into uncontrollable sobs. "I overheard them mention an upcoming auction," she continued, her voice barely audible above my cries. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "An auction? No!" The words escaped my lips before I could censor myself, the anguish seeping through every syllable. Regaining her composure, she nodded solemnly. "Yes. They intend to sell us like mere commodities," she confessed, her voice filled with resignation and sorrow. Sold? The thought of being reduced to a mere transaction, stripped of our humanity, was unfathomable. This nightmare, I prayed, must surely be a figment of my imagination, a cruel illusion that would soon dissipate with the dawn of a new day. Yes, it would soon fade away, I assured myself, clinging desperately to the belief that escape was within our reach. "We must find a way out," I declared resolutely, despite lacking a concrete plan. She shook her head, her eyes filled with sadness . "There is no way out. I have attempted to escape countless times," she retorted, her voice tinged with frustration. "It will only lead to more suffering. Please, let us put that thought aside." "But we cannot simply resign ourselves to this fate," I protested, seeking to grasp onto any shred of optimism. She forcefully interrupted my plea, her voice carrying the weight of harsh reality. "We have no choice in the matter. Acceptance is the only path to survival." What was she saying? Is she insane? The thought of being sold only sent shivers crawling down my spine. I refuse to accept such fate. If she did then I wouldn't. I can't. I deserve a life way better than what I'm getting. My lips quivered as I chew on my lower lip fighting back the sob. Why? Why was destiny playing a hard card with me? What wrong have I ever done? As though being under the clutches of my ruthless father wasn't enough and now this? I don't think I can take this anymore. I wish it was me instead of Mum.
