Chapter Four

1013 Words
Ares's POV. As I stormed out of the boardroom, my faithful beta and also personal assistant followed closely behind me, sensing my frustration and anger. Liam's attempt to reason with me only served to further exacerbate my emotions. "Alpha, please consider what your grandfather is proposing," Liam pleaded, his words only serving to irritate me further. The mere notion of getting married before taking over the family business seemed ludicrous. I had no interest in forming any emotional attachments, let alone taking on a wife. The idea was preposterous. With clenched fists, I entered my office, feeling Liam's presence drawing nearer as he cautiously approached me by the expansive round table. My anger pulsated through me, threatening to consume everything in its path. "Get out!" I yelled, my voice reverberating through the room, causing every item on the table to rattle and scatter. "Think about it," he said softly, his words hanging in the air as he made his exit. I let out a frustrated growl, my exasperation mounting. I couldn't comprehend what was wrong with my grandfather. What gave him the audacity to believe he could dictate and control my life? Just because my father had been a mere puppet to him, it did not grant him the right to interfere with my decisions and choices. I refused to succumb to his rule. Yet, a sense of unease gnawed at me. I had invested countless hours of hard work and dedication into building the business, and the thought of it all going to waste fueled my anger even more. As I sat in my office chair, frustration weighed heavily upon me. The numerous business trips, endless meetings, and relentless demands had taken a toll on my spirits. Despite my success in the professional arena, a sense of discontent gnawed at me. I felt trapped by an archaic family tradition that dictated my involvement in a perpetually disastrous alliance. However, I refused to be controlled by anyone, not even my own grandfather. It was high time he understood that. With a irked sigh, I reclined in my chair, allowing myself a brief respite from the relentless pressures in my current situation. Just as I began to lose myself in my thoughts, the shrill ring of my phone pierced the air, jolting me back to reality. An annoyed groan escaped my lips, as I realized I'd forgotten to mute it. I raised my head, adjusting my posture, and reached for the phone impatiently. Roderick was calling. I couldn't fathom why he would have the audacity to disturb me at this moment. I disregarded the call, focusing on the pressing paperwork that demanded my attention. Yet, not too long after, the phone buzzed insistently, indicating Roderick's persistent attempts to reach me. Frustration coursed through my veins, and I tightened my grip on the pen I held, silently cursing my luck. Reluctantly, I answered the call, my tone brimming with irritation, "What? What do you want?" "Easy there, Alpha. How are you?" Roderick's voice echoed through the line, his attempt at a casual greeting only further fueling my agitation. I groaned inwardly, feeling utterly uninterested in entertaining his trivialities and pleasantries, especially when I had far weightier matters to attend to. Suppressing my impatience, I spoke sharply, "Cut to the chase, Roderick, or I swear I will—" Before I could finish my threat, he interjected, his words resonating with an air of self-assurance, "I have a deal, an exceptional one, to be precise." A smug undertone underscored his voice. My brows furrowed in skepticism, knowing all too well that this likely involved matters related to the flesh trade. Roderick had once been my supplier of whores, ensuring my needs were met, but his choices had become increasingly questionable, leading to a decisive end to our business arrangement. "I've told you before, I'm no longer interested—" I began, only to be cut off once more. "This time it's different, Alpha," he insisted, his tone teeming with urgency. "I have personally saved one just for you." My hand found its way to my jawline as I contemplated his words. A potent mixture of desire and anger welled up within me. "Fine," I relented, exasperation coating my voice. "Send her in tonight, but this will be the last time—" Before I could complete my sentence, Roderick interrupted with a surprising revelation. "No, no, no," he interjected eagerly. "This time, it's first come, first serve. I'll be auctioning them." Them? My curiosity was piqued. I found myself unexpectedly enticed by the possibility of satisfying my demanding bulge and wolf. Suppressing my hesitations, I replied reluctantly, "Very well. I will be there. Ensure that you save the best for me." With that, I promptly ended the call with a groan. I checked the time on my wristwatch, feeling both urgency and weariness. I had planned to stay late at the office to clear my workload, but change of plans. Roderick's auction should better be worth it. I summoned Liam to fill him in with the sudden change of plans. He entered my office, offering a sense of calm amidst my swirling thoughts. "I take it as you've made your de--" I cut him off "Prepare the private jet. We leave for Oregon." Liam looked puzzled, his brows furrowing as he tried to understand the sudden change. "May I ask why the rush?" Feeling frustrated, I replied firmly, "Follow my instructions and make arrangements to leave as soon as possible." Liam shook his head slightly, his skepticism evident as he asked, "What time do we leave?" With a deliberate pause, I looked at the watch, considering the passing seconds. "In two," I declared. "Alright. I'll make the necessary preparations." He says with a curt nod. "Is that all?" He asked. "No. You may leave" He nodded back, exiting the room. Shit! I was suppose to have dinner with grandma today. It had totally skip my mind. What now? I'll just call in and tell her I got down with a flu. Yeah! That should do it.
