Chapter 37

Skyler’s POV

I’ve been preparing like crazy for this day and now it’s finally here. Today I was going to be introduced to the pack. Decorations were placed, the dress was ready, and in a couple of hours the pack house would be busy. I couldn’t sleep at all, my nerves ended up getting the better of me so I got up and changed into leggings, a sports bra and tank top. I was putting on my sneakers when two arms wrapped around my neck from behind.

“Go back to sleep. It’s too early and today is going to be a busy day.” Kanto said kissing up and down my neck.

“I can’t sleep, so I’m going to go for a run hopefully to calm down.” Kanto released his grip and got up. He walked over to the dresser and grabbed some clothes. “What are you doing?”

“You can’t go alone so I’m going with you.”

“Really?” I perked up instantly. “Can we train instead then?”

“Sure.” Kanto stretched his arms. I tied my hair in a ponytail then bounced towards the door.

Kanto and I quietly walked through the pack house hand in hand. I started heading towards the training area but Kanto tugged me in a different direction, towards the woods. I smiled having a guess as to where we were going. We walked for a bit until we made it to the clearing we were at a couple days ago. Something tells me that we are going to be coming here a lot in the future.

“Ready?” Kanto asked.

“Sure, what are we doing today?”

“Well you’ve gotten good at dodging, should probably learn how to throw a punch.” I smiled at Kanto’s suggestions and got into the attack pose I learned. Kanto came up behind me to help me through the motions, occasionally getting distracted and stealing kisses.

After what was close to 2 hours, I fell backwards onto the grass to catch my breath. “Feel better?” Kanto asked hovering over me.

“Yes, thank you.” I smiled, closing my eyes and inhaling the fresh morning air. It wasn’t a complete lie, I did feel a bit more relaxed but there was still a nervous knot in the pit of my stomach. I heard Kanto sit down next to me, taking a deep breath. I rolled over while lifting my body so I could land my body on top of him. I pressed my body on him as much as possible while sliding my way up to Kanto’s lips. He hesitated at first, but once the shock wore off he wrapped one of his arms around my waist. I nibbled on his bottom lip hoping he would part his lips, to my delight he did. I explored his mouth with my tongue enjoying the taste.

I decided to reposition myself, so without breaking our lip lock I shifted so I was now straddling him. I heard a low growl vibrate from his chest and I took that as my invitation to grind on his lap. With every move of my hips, I felt his c**k get harder while I was definitely getting wetter. I broke apart our kiss so I could take off my and his shirts, throwing them nearby. The feel of our bare skin touching each other made my stomach flip with butterflies. His hands roved up and down my back, occasionally playing with my waistband. While my hands were doing the same. We kept kissing and explore our bare skin, but couldn’t stay this way forever, much to my disappointment.

“I guess you’re feeling a lot better.” Kanto joked. I turned around in his lap so I could admire our private get away spot. “There’s no need to be nervous tonight, everyone is going to love you.”

“Are you sure it’s ok for us to have this tonight?” I look behind me at Kanto. “There haven’t been any rogue attacks lately but are you sure it’s safe for everyone?”

“We have setup a patrol and we will have guards posted near the pack house. Everything will be fine and if anything happens, we are ready.” Kanto squeezes me and I feel a wave of relaxation roll through me and almost relax me.

We sat there for a bit longer watching the forest wake up. Then we headed back to the pack house to prepare for the day. I couldn’t help but feel uneasy, must be my nerves again.

Unfortunately Kanto couldn’t stay with me all day, he was the Alpha and of course he had work to do, I understood the responsibilities of his role. I just wish today he could help keep me calm, something just didn’t feel right. But that was ok since Andrea stole me away right after breakfast giving me more time to start freaking out again. We found Leilani not too long after, she was helping her kids get ready for daycare, since today was going to be a busy day. Their 7 year old girl, Lizzie, is such a cutie, she walkways curtsies when she sees me practicing her best manners. While their 4 year old boy, Dylan, likes to pretend to be my bodyguard, especially when Jack is around trying to be tough in front of me and his dad. They wanted to stay with us today but after bribing them with a play date with me, they agreed to go to daycare.

Once the kids were at the daycare, the three of us headed to the backyard of the pack house. We saw Luna Maribelle supervising the final details of the backyard. A wooden dance floor was place on the ground. Tables were placed around the edge with room in the center for dancing. The yellowish string lights were hung up above the floor and were swaying gently in the breeze. Up at the front was a stage where I would be present to a giant group of werewolves, most of which I’ve never met before. Yay me. We helped with the finishing touches of the decorations for a couple hours.

“I’m going to go to the kitchen to check on the food. Andrea can you check on the lighting, make sure there is enough and it works? Leilani I believe you need to pick up your pups and have them start getting ready. When you pick them up can you assure that the smaller tables are being brought over?” Luna Maribelle instructed. Andrea and Leilani nodded and started to head off to accomplish their tasks.

“What about me?” I asked not quite sure what else was left.

“Dear, you should go up and get ready, maybe try to relax a bit.” She said with a warm smile that still didn’t calm my nerves. But I headed inside trying to go over everything for today in my mind.

“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry Iliana, I wasn’t looking. Are you ok?” I was so lost in my thoughts that I wasn’t paying attention and bumped into her.

“It’s fine.” She dusted off her arms, her green eyes staring down at me. Then there was a brief but uncomfortable silence.

“You look beautiful today.” I said trying to be nice. I meant it, she was beautiful her black hair was pinned on one side, she had ruby red lipstick on and wore a black spaghetti strap dress that went down to her ankles and hugged her body. She was just as beautiful as she was intimidating. “I hope we get to talk more tonight or sometime soon.”

“Do you need help with anything?” Her question shocked me a bit.

“Oh no, we should be fine with everything.” I stumbled over my words a bit.

“Let me know if you need an extra hand.” She said before turning and walking away.

I shook my head to refocus on what I was doing. What was I doing? Oh yea! I need to get ready. I hustled up the stairs to Kanto’s and my room and promptly turned on the shower. I made sure to thoroughly wash my hair and shave. I needed to look perfect. My shower took longer than expected but I was able to quickly dry my hair. As if knowing, Andrea and Leilani knocked on my door and offered to help with my makeup and hair. My hair had a loose braids going from the top of my head to a messy but elegant, letting some of my dirt blonde strands frame my face. My makeup was beautiful, using silver, light blue to create a smokey eye that made my blue eyes pop. I was happy that they used a more nude lipstick so if I kissed Kanto it wouldn’t leave an as noticeable of a mark.

“Thank you two so much, it’s beautiful.” I was in awe at the person staring back at me in the mirror.

“No, you’re beautiful.” Andrea corrected, pulling me into a hug being careful not to mess up their masterpiece.

“I can’t wait to see Alpha Kanto’s reaction. I bet he’ll be speechless.” Leilani squealed.

“Where is he anyways?” He hadn’t come in the room once since I started getting ready.

“Oh he wanted you to have the space, thinking you would want to relax a bit. He got ready in one of the other rooms.” I was a bit disappointed that Leilani told me he wasn’t here, but it was probably a good call, we would have gotten…distracted. “He is busy with Jack making sure the security measures are all prepared. Now hurry up and put on your dress, wouldn’t want to be late to your own party.”

I just noticed what time it was, she was right I didn’t have much time before the ceremony would start. The women left and I rushed over to the closet. I pulled out the silver sequined dress and the silver strap oh heels that matched. I stared at the dress and took a deep breath, hoping that would dispel the anxious feeling I was still having, but it didn’t work. I slipped into the dress and put on the heels, then walked to the mirror to inspect the whole look. The silver sequins were clustered towards the top and middle of the dress and scattered as they got closer to the bottom. The slight v-neck was held together by a material that seemed invisible, the sequins looked more like they were attached to my body instead of to the dress, and connected in a way that my back was exposed just a bit before making the fishtail skirt. The best part was that the sequins covered up a good part of where Kanto’s mark is supposed to go, so hopefully I would be able to avoid that question.

I take another good look at myself in the mirror. Am I really ready for this? Do I have what it takes to be a Luna? Do I have what it takes to be a good one? I shook my head of my negative thoughts. If Kanto believes in me then I have nothing to fear. With my newfound determination and my lack of time, I left the room and was promptly greeted by Colton and Dustin.

“Hello future Luna Skyler.” Dustin greeted me, he’s usually the more chipper one out of the two.

“Andrea and Leilani tell you guys to come up here?” Colton nodded. I knew Kanto wasn’t happy when I told him about my encounter with the bleach blonde woman. He now makes sure I’m never alone, that someone is always with me or guarding the room I am in. But tonight due to the extra security, Colton and Dustin were going to be around the perimeter. So my main bodyguards for the evening would be Kanto, the Betas or the Gammas.

We walked down the stairs, but the pack house was empty, no doubt everyone was already outside. Instead of heading in that direction, we headed to one of the lounges where I know Luna Maribelle was waiting for me.

“Oh my, don’t you just look gorgeous dear.” Her hand flew up to give me a hug. “I’ll mind-link Kanto that you’re ready. Let’s go to your spot.” She linked arms with me and shewed off my body guards. We walked outside and I could hear all the pack members talking and having a great time. I climbed the stairs to the edge of the stage when I heard the ring of a glass as to start a toast.

I glanced around the side curtain to see Kanto taking center stage. He was so handsome. He was wearing a black suit with a silver tie that matched my dress, his dark brown hair was combed back and his chin had the slightest amount of stubble on it. I could feel the power radiating off of him as I noticed everyone giving him a slight bow.

“Thank you everyone for coming tonight.” Kanto started his speech, his deep voice commanding the room. “9 years ago, I became Alpha of the Silverfang Mountain pack. I didn’t have a Luna by my side but I hoped one day I would find my mate. As time went on, I became less hopeful thinking I would never find my Luna. But there were always little glimpse of hope wherever I went. I would catch the scent of my mate everyday walking to work, I would constantly wonder how she kept evading me. Then I finally found her, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Ever since that day, she has been supportive and caring for this pack. She is intelligent, kind, passionate, and perfect in every way. I can’t think of a better person to be the future Luna of our pack. So it is my greatest honor to introduce you, my pack, my family, to my mate and future Luna of this pack, Skyler McCarthy.”

If the need to be right at Kanto’s side wasn’t there at that moment, my feet would have been frozen to the ground. I stepped out onto the stage, a smile on my face, standing straight and watched as hundreds of eyes landed on me. But there was only one pair of eyes I cared about. The hazel ones that I’ve grown to love. Kanto stared at me, eyes wide with a big smile on his face, but I was the one in shock. No one has ever said such kind words about me before. Tears of joy threatened to stream down my face but I blinked them away.

I grabbed the hand that Kanto had out for me. He kissed the back of my hand and wrapped it around his left arm before turning to face the crowd again. I took a good look at the crowd before speaking. “Thank you Alpha Kanto and members of the Silverfang Mountain pack. It is truly an honor for me to be standing in front of such a strong pack. I believe that with the guidance of Luna Maribelle, the support of the Beta and Gamma families and the love and determination of my mate, Alpha Kanto, we can make the Silverfang Mountain pack one of the strongest and most prosperous packs in the world. I’m excited and determined to be your future Luna.”

The crowd erupted into cheers and howls, which lifted a huge weight off of my chest. I looked up at Kanto, who was beaming with pride, hazel eyes that kept switching from dark to light fixed on me and a smile going from ear to ear. I could tell that both Kanto and Zenith were proud of me.

He led me back to the stage stairs, which happen to be out of view from everyone. Without warning he wrapped me in his arms, placing his hands on the back of my neck and planted his lips on mine. I surrendered to the kiss as I slid my arms around Kanto’s waist. He pressed his body tightly against mine and I pressed back try to melt into him. He tugged on my bottom lip, desperately trying to taste the inside of my mouth. I gave into his desires and invited his tongue in. We fought for dominance in each other’s mouth but were equally matched in hunger. I couldn’t imagine my mouth doing this with another person. I couldn’t imagine my life without him anymore. This is the first time I could really see myself being marked by him soon.

Kanto’s hands started wandering down towards my ass getting a handful when he made it to his destination. I felt a moan escape my lips which made Kanto chuckle. I moved my hands and started to play with his belt, some of my fingers slipping into the top of his waistband. “Be careful, love. If you keep this up, I’ll devour you.”

I swear my panties instantly got wet. “Promise?” I moaned into his mouth, which earned me one of his sexy growls which has become one of my favorite sounds. Sadly we needed to end this moment. “But unfortunately, I believe this party is for us. So I think we need to attend it.”

“Ready to meet the rest of your pack?” Kanto asked as we adjusted our clothes.

“Mhmm. Ready to see Brett try to eat a steak all in one bite?” I smirked remembering what Andrea told me about Brett and her first date together. Kanto just let out a sigh before smiling back at me. I linked arms with him and he guided me back to the main floor.

We were instantly swarmed by people wanting to meet me and offer their congratulations to the both of us. Occasionally Kanto and I would step onto the dance floor to have a brief break from all the people but that didn’t last long. There were so many names and faces being introduced but since I had Luna Maribelle’s help I was able to recognize most people who greeted us. The night was going great but I still had that weird feeling that I’ve had all day, as if somethings bad was going to happen. Then something bad did happen.

“Future Luna Skyler, may I have this dance?”
