Chapter 30

Kanto’s POV

Breakfast went smoothly, I relaxed more after seeing how easily Skyler got along with Leilani and Andrea. It completely slipped my mind that Andrea was a teacher in the city. I feel like an i***t for forgetting what my Beta’s mate did, but with everything happening with the rogues and Steelridge pack I just didn’t remember. But I was happy that Skyler now had some friends here in the pack.

The moment was perfect until I heard the click of high heels down outside of the kitchen. “Alpha, the car is ready outside.” Iliana said as she walked towards the table as I stood up.

“Hi, we haven’t met yet. I’m Skyler.” Skyler stood up with a big smile on her face and extended her hand.

“Hello, I’m Iliana.” She said while weakly shaking Skyler’s hand.

“So you work at the office with Kanto, what do you do there?” Skyler continued to ask sweetly.

“I’m the Alpha’s secretary.” I started to feel a bit pissed at Iliana’s cold demeanor.

“Oh yeah sorry, I keep forgetting to call him Alpha.” Skyler turned to me with an apologetic face before turning back. “I’m still getting used to werewolf life.”

“It’s understandable, if you need help adjusting I can try to help.” Iliana offered, which shocked me a bit but I’m happy that I was just blowing it out of proportion. “Unfortunately I need to go but we can talk later. Alpha I’ll be waiting in the car.” Iliana gave a small bow before walking out.

I sighed and turned to my little mate, she was still looking at the door with a slight worried expression. I leaned down and kissed her on the cheek, she turned and gave me a smile. “I’m sorry but I need to go now.” I said really hoping that my meetings would be cancelled so I could stay with Skyler.

“Don’t worry Alpha, we’ll take care of her.” Andrea said with a big grin. “We can hangout and teach Skyler more about pack life.”

“I’ll be ok, you need to take care of business and you can’t do that here all the time. I’ll just hangout with Andrea and Leilani.” Skyler got on her tiptoes so I leaned down to meet her lips. She wrapped her arms around my neck. She moved her mouth to whisper in my ear. “Just don’t keep me waiting too long.”

You can’t leave, you have to stay with little mate. Zenith interrupted.

We have to go or else we won’t get this deal. I argued back.

No we need to stay and mark our mate. How can we leave her here with all these unmated males. Zenith growled.

“It’s ok Zenith, go to work.” I guess Skyler is getting better at knowing when Zenith yells at me. I leaned down and kissed her again before mind-linking the others.

Brett, Jack I want a full report on Jasmine and the location of the Steelridge leaders when I get back. I mind-linked them, then I switched my attention. Andrea, Leilani please help Skyler get more adjusted to being here. But take it easy she hurt her leg. Colton and Dustin will be assigned to you guys until I return.

Alpha this girl is one of my best friends, nothing is going to happen to her while she’s by my side. Andrea mind-linked back. I appreciated her fierce loyalty to my mate which made me and Zenith more comfortable with leaving.

I gave Skyler one more quick kiss before leaving towards the car. I got into the back seat of the big SUV where Iliana was waiting.

“So you have 3 meetings today. The technology department wants to talk about developing a camera that can move in the rooms while also not being noticeable. The second meeting is just an update check for the Morrison project, more on the technology side since house construction has already begun. Lastly there’s Alpha Stephen Porter of the Blue Forest pack who is interest in building a new pack house soon.” Iliana rattled off the schedule the minute the car started moving.

“Ok sounds good. How the basic training of the pack members going?” Iliana was one of the packs best warriors and Jack did delegate the some of the responsibility of the retraining to her.

“Everyone is retrained enough to protect themselves. And we also saw some talent shine through from some of our younger members so we will keep training them up.” Iliana paused for a moment before continuing. “So she’s the future Luna you mentioned?”

“Yes, Skyler is my mate and the future Luna of this pack.” I said firmly.

“What did the elder council say?” Iliana said in a more hushed tone with her eyes glancing at the bottom of the car.

“What about the council?” Zenith growled out for me.

“No disrespect Alpha. But you know you have to introduce your Luna to the whole pack officially and in order to do that you need the council’s approval.” She was right but I was angry at the mention of the council. They can’t take away my mate. “Do you want me to schedule a meeting with them?”

“Yes please schedule it for Wednesday morning. Then plan for the Luna announcement ceremony for next Saturday.” I was going to make the council agree no matter what.

“Of course Alpha.” Iliana wrote on her notebook before looking out the window.

“Thank you for offering to help Skyler adjust, I bet you two will get along great.” I did appreciate Iliana’s offer, especially if she actually meant it.

“Of course Alpha. We need a strong Luna who understands the inner workings of our world. If you chose her to be your Luna, I don’t believe there is anyone who can change your mind. So I’ll do my best to help her succeed so the pack can continue to thrive.” She gave me a small smile before looking back out the window.

I still don’t trust her words. Zenith mumbled.

Look I’ve been friends with her for years. If Skyler accepts her help then I’m going to let Iliana help. Besides this will help persuade the council as well. Zenith huffed out a sigh at my logic.

Ok but if she hurts little mate I won’t hesitate to end her. Zenith warned in his typical threat. I rolled my eyes and focused on the preparing for my meetings today.

We finally made it to the city and I got up to the first meeting. We made a lot of progress in the development of the moving cameras, still has some bugs but it should be a quick fix. The Morrison meeting gave me the usual headache that came with every interaction. Luckily we were able to keep the plans the same and we shouldn’t have to deal with them again for a while.

Skyler texted a few times about all the things Andrea and Leilani were showing and teaching her. I was so happy they hit it off so well and how adaptable Skyler was. I was replying to her when there was a knock on the door.

“Mr. Boterea, Mr. Porter is here to see you.” Iliana said as she poked her head in from behind the door.

“Send him in.” I got up from my chair and headed around my desk as Iliana escorted Alpha Stephen in. Once he walked past her, she closed the door so we could talk.

“Alpha Stephen Porter, it’s good to see you again.”

“Ah young Alpha Kanto Boterea, my have you grown into such a fine leader.” Alpha Stephen gave me a firm handshake. Alpha Stephen was a longtime friend of my father’s. They were allies ever since they were young and I’ve maintained that relationship as well. “Your father would be proud to see how well you’ve been managing your pack.”

“I’m honored to receive such praise from you, Alpha Stephen. I’m even more honored that you chose Boterea & Buildings to design your new pack house.” As I said those words Alpha Stephen’s expression got a bit more tense.

“Alpha Kanto, my pack does need a new pack house but that’s not the main reason why I came to visit you.” Alpha Stephen took a deep breath and released it before continuing. “As you are aware, my son is going to be taking over the Alpha position soon and my daughter and her mate will be the Betas. Recently we have been having issues with a small clan of hostile vampires and we are having a difficulty with resisting them. I’m here to ask for assistance. Our warriors aren’t as skilled in battling with vampires, I would like to ask for some reinforcements from the Silverfang Mountain pack.” I knew the situation must be hard on his pack if he came to ask me for help. But there’s no way I could turn down his request.

“Alpha Stephen I want to help but we are currently having an issue with rogues and we think it’s connected to the Steelridge pack.” I said honestly.

“The Steelridge pack? Are you sure, last time there was any activity from them was after the Alpha was executed.” I knew Alpha Stephen was starting to get angry, his pack was one of the packs that helped my father. Also he and my dad were good friends, he hoped to never heard of that pack again.

“His son, Varus, has been spotted and it’s no coincidence that there has been a spike in rogue attacks against my pack.” I started to feel Zenith get angry at the thought of Varus in front of Skyler. I took a deep breath to calm him down. “I can lend you some warriors now who can help with the vampires. We haven’t had any encounters with hostile vampires in a while so we don’t have as many trained as we used to. If the small clan is still a problem after a couple weeks, I’ll find a way to arrange coming out there myself.”

“Thank you so much, any help is appreciated.” I could see the relief wash over his face at my offer. “And who knows, maybe while you’re out there you’ll meet your mate. There are plenty of unmated she-wolves in my pack who would be suitable for you.”

“Actually, I recently found my mate. We are going to have her Luna announcement ceremony next Saturday.” I said proudly.

“Congratulations! What pack is she from?” He was clearly happy for me too.

“She’s not from a pack, she’s a human. But I know she’ll be an excellent Luna.” I was still proud of my little mate even though Alpha Stephens smile dropped a bit when he heard she was human.

“Human, huh?” He sat there for a moment but then his smile grew as he let out a low chuckle. “The Moon Goddess sure works in mysterious ways. But if she is your destined mate I have no doubt she is perfect for you. And I have no doubt that your father would have loved your mate too.”

I was happy that my dad’s friend approved of Skyler, it gave me hope that the council would approve of her as well. “Thank you Alpha Stephen, your words are appreciated. Now tell me about this new pack house.”

We talked about specifics of the pack house he wanted me to design. After talking about the house we moved back to the specifics of sending warriors to his pack lands. As he was leaving, we talked more about his son’s upcoming Alpha ceremony and Skyler eventual Luna ceremony, extending invitations to both events. I gave Alpha Stephen another handshake before he left. When I returned to my desk I worked quickly because I knew that Skyler was waiting for me.

A couple more hours passed until I was finally able to leave. I need to get back on my regular work schedule so I don’t have work piled up like this again. I collected my things and headed out of my office.

“Mr. Boterea!” I heard Iliana shout from behind me. “Sir, you should come into the office tomorrow as well considering that the council meeting will be elsewhere on Wednesday.”

I groaned internally, I was hoping to stay at the pack house to work but she’s right. If I want to keep on top of work I do need to get back into my old routine. I nodded to Iliana signaling that I would be here tomorrow before heading downstairs and into the SUV waiting out front for me. I glanced out the window while mentally making a list of the warriors that I would send to Alpha Stephen. We were driving peacefully until a scent caught my nose.

“Pull over” I told the driver who promptly obeyed.

We were close enough to the pack house that I could mind-link Brett and Jack.There’s a weird scent coming near the road from the city.

Rogues? Brett responded first.

It smells like rogues but something is off. I linked back as I got out of the car to get a better sniff. I didn’t have any backup so I only ventured a couple more steps forwards, scanning the woods around me. It smell like cleaned up rogues, that’s the best way to describe it. Jack send a patrol to this area and have them sweep it.

Yes Alpha. Jack said. I got back into the car keeping my eyes on the forest around me. I didn’t feel more at ease until I could see the pack house. I felt even better when I caught the scent of strawberries and papayas as I stepped out of the car.

Where’s mate? Impatient as usual, Zenith was always like this when it came to seeing Skyler. But I have to admit, that was my first thought too when I got out of the car. I followed my nose to one of the lounges, I slowed my pace when I heard her melodic laugh.

“Really? That’s how you met? Poor Brett.” Skyler laughed out.

“Yep and now he’s all mine.” I could hear the boastfulness in Andrea’s voice.

“What about you Skyler? How did you meet Alpha Kanto?” I was about to grab onto the door when I heard Leilani’s question. I have been curious as to what Skyler thought of our first meeting.

“Actually I met him at the end of the year school carnival. One of our co-worker’s son was sick so I covered her booth for her. I turned around to get extra materials, when I turned back there he was.” I chuckled to myself remembering how I was so focused on meeting her that I forgot about personal space. “I almost broke my nose when I ran into him. But I was too shocked at the god-like figure in front of me.”

“You’re welcome then.” Andrea said a bit loudly. “If it weren’t for my organizing who knows if he would have bumped into you. Literally.”

“Thank you for being the mastermind behind my love life Andi.” Skyler said sarcastically before returning to a normal tone. “Kanto truly is amazing though. He’s been making this change so easy for me and he’s so understanding. And he cares for me so much, I could see myself falling head over heels for him.”

My heart began to race, my mate was truly starting to accept me. Zenith was going crazy listening to Skyler’s words, it’s not very often he gets this excited.

“Well maybe you should tell the Alpha that I think he’d be happy to hear it.” Leilani said but I knew she wasn’t finished. “I mean that is if he wasn’t listening to us from the hallway.”

Damn wolf hearing. I opened the door and Skyler’s face instantly turned red. Andrea and Leilani just laughed.

“Alpha didn’t Luna Maribelle tell you the eavesdropping is rude?” Andrea asked with a smirk.

I would have been more embarrassed but I was excited by Skyler’s confession. I ignored the two women and walked up to Skyler, placing a kiss on her soft lips the instant I reached her. After a few second, Skyler pulled away. “Hi.” She said meekly, still bright red.

“Hey” I replied focused on my mate’s light blue eyes.

“Did you have a good day at work?” She’s so cute when she’s embarrassed.

“I think our Alpha is more happy to be home.” Andrea said loudly remind me of their presence. Skyler giggled knowing full well what Andrea was trying to do. “Well Alpha you’re right on time. We were just about to escort Sky to dinner.”

“Go ahead, I’ll meet you both down there.” Skyler replied for me. She waved at them and mouthed the word ‘go’ as the two women smirked and giggled out the door. I’m uncertain if I still like how comfortable they are with each other. “Can you lean down please?”

“What?” I said refocusing my attention on my mate.

“I am short, you are like a whole foot taller than me. It’s difficult for me to reach your face all the way up there.” Skyler stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Forgive me madame.” I teased my short Luna and bent down. Skyler wrapped her arms around my neck and tenderly kissed my lips. I felt the electric tingles in my neck from where our skin met. I engulfed Skyler in my arms and pulled her close, lifting her off the ground a bit. When I felt her start to pull away I placed her back down.

“Shall we get dinner?” Skyler tilted her head to the side, letting her long blonde hair fall from being tucked behind her ear.

“In a bit. We have to talk about something first.”

Skyler’s expression went serious. “Are you breaking up with me?”

“What? No! No way!” I rebuffed very confused.

“Ok good. It’s just in the human world when someone says ‘we need to talk’ it tends to lead to a breakup. And it would have been very rude to break up after I said all those things and for you to kiss me like that. Twice.” I could see the relief wash over Skyler’s face and I relaxed as well. “Then what’s up?”

“I can’t remember if I mentioned it before but in every werewolf pack there’s an elders council. They help advise the Alpha and the pack to avoid repeating past mistakes, breaking laws, and similar business.” I explained.

“Yea I think you’ve mentioned them.”

“Well when an Alpha finds their Luna, they usually present them to the council then to the whole pack.”

“Something tells me, I have to meet with the council members soon.” Skyler predicted.

“Wednesday morning, but I’ll be with you when we are there.”

Skyler paused for a while, looking away from me processing her thoughts. “Ok, I’ll go under one condition. I know they are going to be prejudiced towards me because I’m human. Let me defend myself so I can show them I’m strong and smart enough to lead this pack with you.”

“You frequently surprise me you know that?” Skyler just looked up at me with a determined grin. “Alright deal. Let’s go get some food.”
