CRYSTAL
As our training wrapped up, we all gathered around the bulletin board to check out the patrol schedule. The new guy, Marcel, Niklaus's right-hand man, wasted no time throwing us into the action.
When some girl recruits started to whisper and giggle after their lustful eyes caught Marcel in the sunlight. I, too, decided to let my eyes wander.
Tbh Marcel's a real sight to behold, I tell ya. He's got that South African vibe written all over him, with features that'll make you do a double-take. Picture this: he's built like a tank, all muscle, and no nonsense. And those facial features? They scream strength and resilience, with a jawline you could cut glass on and cheekbones that could rival Mount Kilimanjaro.
His skin's got this warm bronze tone, like he's been soaking up the African sun his whole life – which, knowing Marcel, wouldn't surprise me one bit. And his eyes, man, they're like two deep pools of dark brown that seem to see right through you. There's a spark in 'em, though, like he's got a secret stash of jokes hidden away somewhere.
Then there's his hair – a wild tangle of curls that just adds to his whole untamed vibe. He wears it like a badge of honor, a nod to his roots and his free spirit.
But it's not just about looks with Marcel. He's got this aura around him, a presence that commands respect without him even saying a word. People look up to him, not because they're scared of him, but because they know he's got their backs no matter what.
In the world of night patrols and border defenses, Marcel's the real deal.
And, Yep, you guessed it – we've been handed night patrol duties along the borders. Talk about diving in headfirst!
They've paired us newbies with experienced squad members for the patrols. I lucked out and got paired with Scarlet, another trainee who's as eager as I am. And get this – we're tagging along with Marcel and Dakota, the seasoned pros. Marcel was reluctant to call Dakota. She’s also a member of Alpha Skylar’s pack which she joined five years ago.
While we were on the ground I saw Niklaus talking with Marcel and you can call me crazy or self-centered but I was sure that they were talking about me. Lol, I must be overthinking. When my eyes met Niklaus’ he avoided it, and his jaw clenched as he was trying to suppress his wolf that I could see that was trying to surface.
Back to the night patrol. No fancy language is needed – it's all about keeping our eyes peeled and staying sharp. The night patrols are serious business, demanding our full attention and teamwork.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with streaks of orange and pink, the reality of our first patrol hit me. Time to step up and prove ourselves under Marcel and Dakota's watchful eyes. It's gonna be a test of our grit and guts, no doubt about it.
As we geared up for our first patrol, I ended up paired with Dakota, one of the seasoned pros. Scarlet was rolling with Marcel, and off we went to patrol the border.
At first, I wasn't sure about starting a conversation with Dakota. I didn't want to mess with her focus or make things awkward. But then, out of the blue, Dakota shot me a friendly smile and asked, "Crystal, you look tense, are you alright?"
Her simple question caught me off guard, but it also broke the ice. I shot her a grin back and replied, "Yeah, all good," feeling relieved that she was so chill about it.
From there, things got easier, and Dakota and I fell into a comfortable rhythm as we patrolled together.
"How long have you been on the squad?" I asked Dakota, curious about her experience. We were part of the same pack and I have seen her several times on the ground of Mayhem but I never talked to her before. Tonight was the first time that I was talking to her.
Dakota grinned and said, "Oh, I was in your shoes two years ago," shooting a playful glance at Marcel. "Also Don't let this guy intimidate you, he's a big softy."
Marcel rolled his eyes in mock offense, and Dakota chuckled. It was obvious there was more to Marcel than met the eye.
As we kept walking, I couldn't help but notice the tension between Marcel and Dakota. They were constantly exchanging snide remarks and throwing subtle jabs at each other like they were trying to one-up each other at every turn.
It was weird – they seemed to have this competitive vibe, almost like they were trying to prove something to each other. They didn't c***k any jokes or laugh together; instead, it was more like they were on edge around each other, not letting any chance to mock each other slip by.
I couldn't quite put my finger on what was happening between them, but it felt like there was some history there – maybe some unresolved issues or past conflicts bubbling under the surface.
But hey, I wasn't about to stick my nose where it didn't belong. We had a job to do, and I was gonna focus on that. Whatever drama was going on between Marcel and Dakota was their business, not mine. We were all just trying to get through the night and keep things safe and secure.
We kept patrolling, and then the blaring sirens suddenly went off, and we all tensed up. Scarlet, Marcel, and Dakota wasted no time and shifted into their wolf forms, ready to face whatever was coming our way.
And then there was me – just a regular witch who couldn't even use her powers to protect herself. Talk about feeling useless in a crisis! Watching my friends transform into their wolf forms made me feel even more helpless and scared.
But there was no time to wallow in self-pity. I had to snap out of it and do whatever I could to help. So, I focused on keeping an eye out and being ready to lend a hand if needed.
We ran Back to the barracks, everyone was on edge. Scarlet, Marcel, and Dakota shifted back to their human forms, but their expressions were serious as we gathered in the central meeting area.
Niklaus was there, looking tense with his arms crossed tightly over his chest. And next to him stood Alpha Skylar, not holding back as she laid into the security team.
"We had one job, and you blew it!" he yelled, her frustration clear as day.
Turns out, someone hacked into the IT squad's system and planted a virus. Now, whoever did it has access to all our pack's info and security protocols.
The room fell silent as Alpha Skylar's words sank in. It was a serious breach, and we needed to act fast to fix it.
