Chapter One
Of course it is not a once upon a time thing, let me just say: once upon a lifetime, my life because this is my life, my story, it is neither a folktale nor a myth. It is a life lived, a happy ever after kind of life. An after struggle happy after.
I grew up in a family of five. My parents are the kind who strive to see that all our needs are met accordingly. As I grew up I got to know with time that they did that not because they are rich but because they don't want us to go about eyeing other people's. It is their own way of teaching us contentment.
My parents are born again and dedicated Christians who are fully devoted to the service of the saints. When I said I grew up in the family of five I didn't mean biologically. My mum gave birth to only two of us: my elder sister and I but we added up to five because they have three spiritual children.
About myself: I am twenty four years old, chocolate brown in complexion, short and petite but curvaceous (winks). I am a postgraduate student of interior and graphic design.
"What are you writing Annie" someone sneaked on me.
I closed my journal quickly and turned to behold my best friend Amina.
Sorry for boring you with all these, I'm just very poor with introductions but trust me you'll enjoy your flip through my journal. I grew up with Amina, we were friends since when we were kids. Don't let the name surprise you, she's a Christian. The origin of how the name came about is still vague to me despite hearing the story countless times. It got to a point where she stopped reminding me about the details of the story. Lol.
"It won't be long before I seize this journal, you're always buried inside it" she added.
"Are you done with lectures today?" I asked trying to change the topic of discussion. And I succeeded.
"Yes after these professors dried me up I'm so exhausted to even lift a finger" she exaggerates.
"We have Study in an hour or should I remind you that you're the Bible study secretary?"
"No! I'm not complaining ok?" she rose up and headed to the bathroom.
Amina is your typical kind of sister, hardworking, kind, dedicated to the service of the saints, loving, cheerful, patient... just think of them. She's the one only friend that knows me best. Amina is our fellowship's Bible Study secretary, you can imagine how she got there because our fellowship is a chapel with more than five thousand members, but then again it's not by our might or our power but because she's only living the life God designed for her.
"Annie, soap" she called, and stopping my train of thoughts once again.
"Top shelf" I shouted back.
"How did you reach up there"she teased.
There we go again, always rubbing to my face the fact that I am short.
"I used a ladder"
"No wonder" she laughed.
