Chapter Five

633 Words
I didn't rest for a minute after changing my clothes, Saturday in a pastor's house is nothing to dream of. Thank God I said I'll be going back this evening because by the look of things I'll be dead if I reach Sunday morning in this house. It was just the two of us, Vera and myself. Mummy V has declined help from several church members that came in to offer helping hands saying " thank you oh but don't bother, my eldest daughter is here and the work is not that much that we can't handle" Really? It was around five in the evening that I finally got the privilege to breath appropriately. The only chore remaining was just to sweep the compound, and I trust Vera on that. "I'm going in to receive my punishment. Hope you can finish sweeping by yourself" "Yes. Good luck" she grinned wickedly. As expected daddy and mummy V were seated already and waiting for me. I sat down on the carpet as usual whenever I'm to receive a new task. "Your previous task is long overdue" he started "so as a result, your punishment is that you won't get enough time to do this one but you must do it wholeheartedly not into me but unto God, for our services are unto God. No malpractice is allowed because the God who sees that which is done in secret has his eyes on you" My entire body became weak. "Your assignment is to read Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Colossians, Ephesians, Philippians, Hebrews, and Revelation and to write your views on every chapter in twenty days" he dropped " Daddy" I was really shocked. Twenty days for nine books? "One hundred and twenty two chapters" mummy V added to my misery "Zechariah 4:6" "So he said to me, this is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: not by might nor by power, but my spirit says the Lord Almighty" I memorized "Make it personal unto yourself" he said "In order to make the work more easier and organised try by doing seven chapters a day and you'll be surprised" mummy V encouraged me "The Lord will strengthen you. He won't let you be put to shame in the presence of your enemy, because?" "He already made a public show of the devil" "That's the spirit girl" daddy said causing all of us to laugh. I left the house a hour later after our prayers. Something strange happened that night. I was in our room doing my work already when Ezra called me and pleaded with me to come meet him just outside our hostel. I reluctantly went out to see him. I've already scheduled the minutes I'm going to spend with him because at this stage of my life every single minute matters. I met him outside standing and holding a bag in his hands. "Hi" I greeted "Hi, sorry for bothering you I know you are very busy" he smiled that usual smile. Breathtaking, heart-captivating smile. "How did you know" I smiled back "It's all around you, the aura I mean" "You're very funny" I laughed He stretched the bag to me. I collected the bag and opened it to behold nine note books. These are books I would use to write my comments and views for these nine books. Even if Ezra did know my spiritual parents, they will never ever discuss their next task for me with him, no matter who he is. "Ezra" I sniffed. It may seem insignificant to others, me crying over some note books but I knew what went on and I'm grateful to God for the provision. "I'm really grateful for this" I smiled up at him. "Always" he smiled "Good night" I hugged him and rushed back in.
