THE COMMUNION

Chapter Seven

The next days were a mirror of the previous days. Things went well for the period of the twenty days and I left for Mummy V's that very Friday.

"Wow who do we have here" mummy V exclaimed the moment I entered the parlor causing everyone to turn to me.

I saw new faces, ones I've never seen before. Lord please! I pray it's not a serious occasion because sincerely speaking I don't have the strength for any work today.

I squatted down to greet them, two adults a man and a woman probably a married couple.

"Good evening sir, ma"

"Annie?"

"Obviously" the man answered her

"Wow. How are you doing and how's school and it's stress"

"All well ma, really thank God"

"Daddy" I turned to daddy who had been smiling all this while. What's going on here.

"Good job and welcome" he smiled

"Thank you"

I met mummy V in the kitchen trying to get this and that for our guests.

"Mummy who are they"

"They are Mr and Mrs Elkanah Ishaku, spiritual leaders, parents of four and our friends"

"Ahh mummy, I didn't ask for a biography"I laughed "what do I do" I asked going around looking for what to help her with.

"I just gave a brief summary of the biography"

"Seriously?" I laughed "thanks though. Where are my people" I asked because I haven't felt their presence since I came in.

"They are sleeping in their rooms" she answered

My parents chatted with their guests for a very long time. It was around four in the evening that they finally decided to take their leave but not after checking up on me once again. They are beginning to make me feel suspicious.

"Daddy why did they behave that way towards me"

"How?" He raised a brow

"Like they want me to... like they know or heard about me somewhere... like... I don't know how to explain the feeling"

"How would I know" he smiled mischievously.

I know something is definitely up but he won't say anything.

"Daddy you're smiling mischievously" I said

"Me? When did I do that" he feigned ignorance

"Daddy!"

"Fine. Something is up but this is not the right time for you to find out"

"What's wrong with everyone telling me that" I muttered under my breath

"I heard that"

"Auntie Annie!"Habila screamed excitedly and jumped into my arms. "I miss you" he added

"I miss you more darling. I came in last month and was told you and Hadassah went for a conference"

"Yes Vera told us" he smiled broadly

"Where's Hadassah"

"She is still sleeping. Where's your phone" he whispered the last part.

"It's in my bag in Vera's room" I whispered back.

He sprinted off probably to get it. This young man with phone. Hmm

"Phone right?" Daddy guessed

"Yes" I laughed

Mummy V and daddy sat me down for a discussion after dismissing the kids after our night prayers.

I sat down on the carpet as usual after submitting my assignment. Both of them looked impressed and that made me happy. If men are happy about your sacrifice to God, how much more would He the Lord be happy. This joy alone made me forget all the sacrifices I made for the past twenty days. The sleepless nights, the missed dishes, and so many others.

"We're really impressed by your determination concerning this your assignment. How do you feel"

"I feel achieved and happy. I know God is proud of me" I smiled

"Indeed God is proud of you, we're proud of you too. You did a great thing, keep it up. Serving God is not for the weak. You can't stay idle doing nothing and think that you're serving God, you always have to go an extra mile to make God smile."

"Yes sir"

"I think your task is done for this year. The Lord bless you and reward all your efforts in his service this year"

"Amen" we answered

"Last time you came, you said Ezra said he wanted to take you somewhere"

Where is this conversation heading to.

"Yes I did"

"I think now is the time to remind him of that your conversation"

"I don't think he forgot about that though. He had kept his distance these pasts weeks because I was very busy"

"That's what is expected of a matured man" mummy V smiled

"You're right. So about this guy, do you still think he's the one for you?"

"Daddy you and I know that answer. It had always been clear and precise for over a year now. I know that Ezra is the one for me but I was never given the permission to date him and of course he never asked me out"

"So what if the permission to start dating came through us"

"Then I'll obey only when he asks me out though. I can't just approach him and ask him out. I'm a lady and I have pride"

"You've started with this your pride thing right?"

"Allow the girl to keep her pride intact oh. You're right Annie, asking is the man's responsibility. Let him do that" mummy V supported

"Thank you mummy V" I smiled triumphantly

"Wow, you guys won't kill me." He laughed.
