Episode 1
Zara's Pov
My hands shook around it, my feet felt numb and I stood frozen on the spot.
I raised my eyes to look at my reflection in the mirror and what stared back at me was confusion. I was in a mess.
“How could this be? It… it was just once,” I muttered.
“Zara!”
I heard her voice from outside my room but I didn't care. I wasn't in the right frame of mind for her. Not now.
“Zara! Where's this stupid girl?” Her voice was closer and I would have answered but I was too occupied with my mess of a life.
“What do I do with this?” I asked myself, looking at it. My head blank, my mind spiralling.
No, nobody can find out. Father can't find out. I have to do whatever it takes to ensure he doesn't fine out. Thank the heavens his study where he is is far from my room.
Father was a strong disciplinarian who takes the Daniels name seriously and if he finds out about this, I don't know what he would do. I don't even want to think about it.
“Zara!” She barged into my restroom and my eyes met hers, her eyes angry. “Haven't you been hearing my calls?!” She yelled, her hands akimbo. I remained quiet. “Come here.” She dragged me into my room. I stumbled behind and almost fell.
“What do you want, Nicole?” I asked boredly after getting my footings, quickly hiding the slip in my gown pocket and that's when I saw her sitting comfortably like she owns my room. Quincy, my sister, my nemesis.
“Nicole?” She scoffed. “I see you've grown wings now, uhn? You want to get out of my house or what?”
Actually, I wish I could and yes, I called my mother by her name, Nicole, because she told me never to call her mother. Said she regretted ever adopting me… all these because they found their real daughter, Quincy.
I remained quiet as Nicole schooled me on how she gave me my life.
The Daniels took me from the adoptive home when they found me that beautiful afternoon, saying I reminded them of their lost daughter.
They took me in and gave me the best life anyone could imagine until their secret detective found their missing daughter who just turned out to hate my guts, claiming I've had all of her benefits for too long and she wanted them back.
The luxury lifestyle. My position as the CEO of Daniels Group. My parent's love. And even my man, Williams.
And she got it all. All of it.
“Zara… why are you being disrespectful to mom? She's our mother and… and she loves you so much,” came Quincy's calm voice.
Quincy; the perfect definition of deceit. A green snake in the green grass.
She does all her evil when no one's watching and when I speak, she acts like the victim. Like I was at fault. Like I was jealous of her and everyone buys her act. When I complain, no one believes me.
I shook my head. There was no use fighting her anymore. She has succeeded in taking the one thing I thought she wouldn't; Williams, and now, I have nothing to fight her for. I have nothing to myself.
“I was using the restroom mother. How may I help you?” I simply said, calmly.
“Go to the kitchen and make your sister something to eat. She's carrying my grandchild and she needs to eat,” mother said after calming herself a bit.
“There are chefs in the house. She can get anyone. Why do I have to cook for her?”
“But… but my baby wants you to cook for him. I… I just want to eat… is that too much to ask?” Quincy stuttered amidst tears but I could see through it. It was fake.
Before I could answer her, mother's hands collided with my cheek in a hot slap. I closed my eyes and rubbed my cheek as pain stung through my face.
“You… you!” Mother exclaimed. “Would it kill you to be nice to your sister? Why do you have to be so wicked everytime? She's carrying a child!”
I opened my eyes but I fought back the tears that threatened to fall. Looking at mother's angry face, my mouth opened in shock and then I looked at Quincy to see her smirking at me deviously.
“Why!” I exclaimed, angry as I lost it. Tears streaming down my eyes like a river. “Why do you have to treat me this cruelly?!"
Taken aback by my sudden outburst, mother muttered, “What?”
“What did I ever do to deserve this? Nothing I do is pleasing to you. She's the one that stole Williams away from me but I'm the one you blamed for being unable to keep a man.”
I sniffed, calmed myself and continued, “She got pregnant for my fiance but you gave her off to him instead of reprimanding her. Now, I still have to take care of her and do her bidding? No!”
Mother's face contorted into sympathy and then… guilt. But she immediately averted her gaze, looking elsewhere.
“Zara!” Quincy called and swiftly held her stomach, her face wincing in pains and mother quickly ran to her side, saying soothing words to her.
“I know what I did was wrong but I've apologized several times. Can't… can't you just have mercy on me? Please… please…” Quincy added, her face masking into sadness but being her victim for years now, I knew this was just part of her acts.
“Shh… calm down, darling. You shouldn't stress because of the baby,” mother said to her, caressing her hair.
She faced me and said, “I don't care if you're angry or not, you'll go to that kitchen and make her a meal! Otherwise…”
“I will not!” I stood my ground, frustrated and tired of this maltreatment. I refused to continue being Quincy's victim.
Instantly, Quincy winced like she was in pain, making mother shoot up and walk towards me.
“You. Will. Cook!” She exclaimed.
She grabbed my hands and tried forcing me to exit the room with her but I shoved my hand away, then she started dragging my dress forcefully until the slip suddenly fell off my pocket.
“Oh no,” I muttered and froze for what felt like minutes. I bent to quickly pick it up before I could, Quincy got to it. She gasped.
“Zara… you're pregnant!” She exclaimed.
“She's what?!” father's voice came from the passageway.
