You never know when you found your soulmate, everything changes. Those changes seem so surreal and I can't help but get drowned in that fairytale. I have never imagined my life would be like that until I met that man. That man holds the key to all the answers to my life.

"I can't imagine my life without you, Drake," Eli said. "I can't be that man for all of your life Eli, I'm sorry," Drake answered.

So, what now? How can this be? Can I erase all those times and forget about him? What would be my future now? Now that I'm slowly losing that man?

Chapter 1: The first encounter
Hi, My name is Elizabeth, short for Eli. I was a working student and this year, hopefully, I will graduate. I am the breadwinner of my family. I came from a broken family and it reminds me that nothing lasts forever. I don't believe in love. Maybe someday or someone might change that. Who knows? "Eli, dear, you're gonna be late again for school! Hurry up!" mom said. "Yeah, yeah mom, I'm almost done here," I said. Sometimes I wonder why my mother has to experience a sad and agrhhh... I don't want to remember the man that shattered all my mom's dreams. That man maybe my dad, but duuhh who wants to recognize him as a dad? He doesn't even care or bother to be a father to me or even to my stepbrother. Anyway, enough of that man, I suddenly remembered that my boss from the cafe where I am working had sent me my favorite doughnuts last night. I can't wait to taste it. "Hi mom, how are you?" "Hi, honey. Never better," mom said. Every time I see my mom's smiling face, my heart hurts so much. It's like breaking me into pieces. "Mom?" I said. "Hmm? What is it dear?" mom said as she continued to wash the dishes. "Can you pick up Anthony later? I think I might be late again tonight. I have to finish my assignments at the library and drop by the cafe afterward. Is it okay mom?" I said. I am also worried about my stepbrother, Anthony, because every time he goes to bed he remembers how our dad left us. Even with all the begging he had to do, just to make him stay. "Yeah, sure I think I might go to the supermarket too," mom said. "Okay, mom. Thanks! Ohh by the way mom, I'll just grab one of these doughnuts. Bye, Mom!" I said. "Honey wait..." mom said. Someday, I can achieve all the things I wanted for my life and for my family. And I need to work even harder. My dream is to become the owner of my own cafe. That is why I took the Business Administration course so that I can learn the techniques of having my own business. Plus, I have experience at my boss's cafe. My boss is my lifesaver. I can still remember how he accepted me as a baker and barista in his cafe, knowing that I was just a kid back then. But life is full of surprises. Although I had a tough childhood, I still view my life in a positive way. That way my family will not get worried about me. Speaking, I think my brother had the toughest childhood we could ever have. Anthony was only 4 at that time when our dad left us. And me? Naaaah... I was still 12 years old at that time. During those days? I was so desperate to have a job so that I could help our mom with all the expenses. In a positive way, I became independent and strong thanks to that experience. I always dreamt of giving my family the best life they could have. I want to erase all the sad memories and bad things that we all have experienced. So, I have to work and work and work. *** "Hi Stella," I said. "Hi Eli, welcome back again here at the library," she said. "What are you up to today?" "Hmm, just the normal research for my thesis project," I said. "Well, you still have 1 hour to stay," she said. "What? Why?" I replied. "Because tomorrow, we will donate some books to the orphanage. And we still have to prepare the books for the kids tonight. Well, here's the secret... One of the investors in that event is here now. You might wanna check him out." she explained. I winked at her and smiled all the way to my table. The librarian knows I love people who cherish and love the orphanage. Because of what happened to us, I kind of had the idea that when I became rich, I would share my blessings with the people in the orphanage. You know, sharing is caring. Now, I am looking for books that are somehow related to baking. But there is one section I haven't checked yet. As I was about to get to the corner of the shelves, I heard a man talking over the phone and suddenly I bumped into that man. *** The phone rang... "Boss? everything is good and set already. Waiting for your signal and your confirmation." I can't understand. Whenever I have an event like this, my head hurts so badly that I'm gonna pass out. "Just make sure nothing is left undone-" I said. Wait! DID THIS GIRL LITERALLY BUMP ME? "I'm sorry Sir, I didn't see you," Eli said. "You didn't see me? Or are you just blind?" Drake said. "Well, I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean to bump you or anything!" Eli said. Is this girl just clumsy or what? My day is getting much worse. I think I know the reason why my head is aching right now. This event is somewhat like what happened to me. All my life, I never knew who my parents were. I lived in an orphanage but that didn't stop me from being the man I am right now. A lawyer, an independent person and I can say I have everything now. I have clients who are counting on me. I can't let anything go wrong. I just stared at the girl and didn't even bother to say another word and walked out of my way toward the librarian. "Finish everything tonight. Do not allow any delays, okay? Tomorrow is the event and I don't want anything to go wrong. Do I make myself clear?" I said while I tapped the librarian's shoulder. "Yes sir, copy," she assured Drake. These past few days, I have been very busy. But one thing I learned in the orphanage was to manage my time. I never allow myself to make a mistake. Others may say I am a perfectionist, but no. I did this for myself so that if the time came that I met my parents, I would slap them in the face with the fact that I became the man I am now without their help. One thing I am thankful for is the family I have in the orphanage for taking care of me and making me feel that I still have a family who understands me. The orphanage is the reason why I want to become a lawyer. Because someday I want to help those people who are abused, who can't afford to have a lawyer, and people who are wronged in this world. *** "Argg, I hate that arrogant man. Who is he, by the way, Stella?" I furiously said. "None other than the man I mentioned a while ago"... she laughed "The investor in tomorrow's event for the orphanage." She continued. "What? No way! He can't be that man?!" I said. "What do you mean he can't be that man? Drake's been doing that for almost 2 years now. He is kind, you know. I think he just had a bad day, I guess," she explained. I just stared at Stella with a disappointed face. "I think I might just have to come back the other day, Stella. I still have to drop by the Cafe and help my boss out there." Leaving the library makes me think of the man I just bumped into. He is my ideal person actually, but sad to say I don't believe in love. Eew gross. What am I even thinking? How can I think of him as my ideal person? I don't even know him yet?! Although our first meeting was not that good, I could somehow see from his eyes that he was lonely. Maybe he has a story to tell too, which explains why he was so arrogant at that time. As I opened the door to the cafe, my colleague, who is also my best friend, surprised me with a hug. "Arggg, I miss you so much Eli," Lisa said. "And I miss you too, gorgeous. When did you arrive?" I said. "Just this morning," she said with a big smile on her face. I can't believe she's here already. Lisa's been so generous to me. Although her family is rich, she's been giving me the best of everything. She knows all of my problems and gives me pieces of advice. I think she's more mature than I am. Her family migrated to Canada 3 years ago because of their family business. "Where are my chocolates, Lisa?" Teasing her is what I miss too. "Okay, enough of that chitchat girls. Let's hurry up and soon customers are gonna line up in here." said boss Charles. "Yes, Boss." My daily routine here in the cafe is to bake cookies and pieces of bread. I love baking to my heart, it feels like all my feelings are put into reality. Baking makes me happy. It's the passion I want to discover. Our cafe is open 24/7. We shift schedules here. And since I am only a part-timer, I work in the evening. The pastries I baked will be served tomorrow morning. But sometimes, when I want to explore other things, I also help cook the menu for dinner. It's not that easy studying and working. But for the love of my family, I can do all those things. "Hey, Eli?" Lisa said. "Hmm?" "Are you gonna look for Mr. Dream boy?" she said. "What? What dream boy are you talking about?" I was so curious about what she was about to say. "You know... you are about to graduate and live your best life. So you might as well look for someone you can count on too?" she explained. "Lisa, I don't-" I was shocked when the other crew called me. "Hey, Eli? Someone is here. Can you take his orders?" the crew said. I just nodded and left Lisa behind. Now, I'm thinking. There are only a few more months before I get my diploma. So what's it gonna be? How do I lead my future out? Like, what's the plan now? *** "Hi Drake," Charles said. "Hi Charles, how are you?" I said. "Oh man, you look fantastic now. How's your event going?" "Oh, it's going perfectly fine," I replied. "Wow, that's good. By the way, someone will be taking your orders. But for now, I need to go drop by the orphanage and hand over the pieces of bread and pastries for tomorrow's event," Charles said. "Okay Charles, see you around." Me and Charles are like brothers. We get to know each other through the orphanage. I first saw him handling all the pieces of bread when I was still a teenage boy. But now that I think of it, we are just a couple of numbers away from our age. He's like 34 and I am 28 years younger than him. "Hi Sir, I am Eli-" I was so shocked when she came over to my table and introduced herself. She was the girl I just bumped into this afternoon. "Huh?" I arrogantly said. "What are you doing here?" Eli said. "Are you gonna take my orders or not?" I replied. "NO," she said. "What? Are you dumb or are you just lazy? Bec-" "No, you didn't even bother to say sorry to me," Eli blurted out. Now that I think of it, I just walk out and ignore her at that time. But it's not my fault that it happened. "You know what? Can you just take my order and leave?" I said. *** Blah Blah Blah! I just nodded and wrote out what Drake had been saying. I can't believe he is here. "Who in the world is that? Huh?" Lisa said in a curious way. "Hmm? A very arrogant and bad person," I replied. Lisa didn't seem to believe me when I said that Drake was a bad person. I think she thinks that I have a connection with that man. "I think you're lying!" Lisa laughed out loud. "You know what I'm thinking? I think you had a crush on him. Do you think I didn't see you? I saw you staring at him differently," she continued. "What? No! What are you even saying? HAHA," I replied. "And besides, I still don't have time for any love whatsoever," And I really don't have time for that one. I still have a lot of dreams for myself and for my family. I still have to pay for my brother's tuition. Pay for the finances. As I was baking, I was thinking of having a full-time job. I think I'm gonna apply right away after I graduate. But maybe it's not that bad if I enter into a relationship to add colors to my life. But whenever I think of it, I am reminded of what happened to my mom. I can't imagine myself if I was in my mom's shoes at that time. Some say, "Do you believe in second chances?" In my opinion, I do believe in second chances, but of course, it depends on the person. If that person is my dad, then NO. He doesn't deserve one. "Ah, Eli, are you gonna walk from your home now?" Lisa said. "Yes, Lisa. It's gonna rain in a little while, so I have to hurry. I didn't bring my umbrella tonight." I hurriedly said. "Sorry, Eli, I can't come with you tonight. I have to drop by the convenience store and buy noodles for my mom," Lisa said. "It's fine Lisa," I assured Lisa. As I was about to walk out of the entrance of the cafe, the rain started to fall out really hard. But what amazes me is the sky full of many stars. I kept staring at the sky and made me forget about the rain and all of my problems until suddenly someone sheltered me with an umbrella.
