Chapter 3__
Luna
I let out a sigh I didn’t know I was holding till now. Stepping inside, I could see the headmaster in the middle of the room behind his desk. He surely got looks to die for. Must be in his 40s with no ring on his finger. Enough information to pass down to Lia.
He must have noticed my stare as he let out a cough. Great now my headmaster must think I am some sort of creep. “ Have a seat, miss Ashby. " Without a second thought, I took a seat. “ I just wanted to have some changes in my schedule, "I said, cutting to the chase.
Which is not a whole lie. I noticed I was assigned to take two subjects, one being my major in law and another, finance, which I certainly don’t remember agreeing with. “ What’s wrong with that? ” he asks, as if he’s not aware of the situation.
“ I don’t mind teaching law as it is my given major, but finance is something that I am not qualified enough to teach, and I don’t know whoever gave you the false information about that and surely missed the memo." As soon as the words leave my mouth I regret stepping inside this room. So much for professionalism.
Just when I thought he was going to get mad at me, I saw the corner of his lips twitch at that. “ I see there must have been some false information. I will check up on that missing Ashby. " I froze for a moment. That's it? I thought he'd bring up an argument, but, shock to me, he didn't even look mad.
With that he extends his big hands towards me. I hesitated for a moment and was about to put my hand on his, thinking he'd try to shake it until he said, “ Can I have your schedule for a recheck?"
I almost fainted on the spot from embarrassment. Although he didn’t notice or pretended not to notice who I thought he was, with my shaky hands I reached inside my bag and gave him the schedule. While he was going through my schedule, I took out my phone and hid it behind my bag.
The things Lia makes me do… I swear I needed a raise for the friendship had it been a real job. She better not be lying about making my favorite dish by the time I get home. Without thinking more, I adjust my phone at a perfect angle, hoping I don’t expose myself or the phone worse.
But the moment I click the picture, my flash goes on to his straight face like I am some sort of paparazzi. My life flashed before my eyes for a few seconds. So much for being sneaky, another reason why I could never be a detective.
He lifts his head lazily towards me, staring through my soul. At this point, my mind is overflowing and escaping feels like the only option. Without wasting any time, I sprinted off out of his office down the hall, knocking a few students on the way. Luckily, my classes are done for today, which means I can leave and get home.
The minute Lia sees me coming through the front door, she jumps on me like I’m on a limited edition sale. “ So did you get it?" She asks impatiently. Before I could say anything, she snatched my bag out of my hand and tried searching for my phone. When she couldn’t find it anywhere, I pulled it out of one of my pockets and held it up.
Before she could grab it, I held it up higher out of her reach. “Do you have any idea what I have to go through for this silly picture?” I explained to her everything from that weird encounter with those boys to how I got caught taking a picture of the headmaster that she specifically asked for. By the time I was done explaining, I was out of my breath.
She looked at me like I had grown two heads. I thought she was going to laugh at me or, worse, scream in my face, but she just extended her hand asking for my phone. I scoffed at that but handed her the phone anyway. Luckily, even with the flash on his face, it was pretty clearly seen in the picture.
“Are you going to stare at the picture all night? If so, please airdrop it to your phone and hand me back my phone”. After what feels like an eternity, she screams like she has seen a Greek god and I caught it on camera just for her.
“Holy mother of cows, that’s him? With this lethal face, I would let him bend me at every angle, curve, surrender myself completely and let him take me however he likes” she speaks with a hint of desire lace in her tone. I scrunch my nose at that and make a fake puke motion with my hand.
“Well, you’re welcome,” with that I head towards the kitchen. I can hear her faint voice from the living room: “ Thank you." Only a good meal can take my mind off from today’s incident. After a proper dinner, I was planning on taking a long cold shower and hitting bed immediately. After all, I have got a long day waiting for me ahead.
Right when I was about to leave the kitchen. Lia comes and gives me those lost puppy eyes. “What do you want now?” I ask, knowing there’s more to come. Despite her being 2 years younger than me, she’s still surprisingly immature. Sometimes I feel like I am living with a younger sister that I never had. Safe to say she’s a psychiatrist by profession.
“You remember that guy from my workplace who’s been bugging me to go out with him”? She asks. “The guy who is divorced and has a daughter?” I ask, even though I know that’s who she’s talking about. “Well, yeah, he’s been asking me out now and then and, since we work in the same place, it’s really hard for me to ignore him” she says fluttering her eyelashes.
I gave her the continuing look. “Well, I agreed to go with him finally, not because I want to but because I want to put an end to this,” she says. “So then go, what’s stopping you?” I said with no patience in my body at this point, because I am exhausted and just want to sleep.
“There’s more, right?” I ask and she nods her head weakly. “ I said I agreed to go but only if it’s a double date.” That sobered me up real quick because I can sense where this conversation is going, and I don’t think I am in the mood to listen any further.
She knows I won’t agree to this. I’ve never talked to a guy, let alone go on a date after whatever happened three years ago.“ Pretty, please just this one time and I won’t bother you again,” she pleads me with her hands. While I have many reasons to turn her down, I know she won’t give up, and I am not in the right state of mind to fight her, so I simply said, “Let me think about it,” and headed straight to my room, locking my door.
“Really? Will you do that for me? Don’t go back to your words now, I hear her say from outside the room.”
