Chapter 7

*NOAH’s P.O.V*

I let Hunter out for our morning run. Since our pack territory is of average size, it takes him thirty minutes to run through the whole territory. He brings us to the place where Celeste and I met up in the forest. It has become our favorite spot ever since.

I can’t wait to run with her as a wolf, I tell Hunter

You and me both

I just wonder how we will explain to Beta Daniel that we are at her first shifting

She’s our mate, there’s nothing to explain

You know it’s not that easy. I can’t just show up-

You and these stupid laws. All that matters is her. Nothing else. We’ll fight for this and so will she.

You’re right but it’s still dangerous. I-I just love her so much, I’m afraid to lose her.

Hunter growls, We won’t. She’s OUR mate. Trust me.

With this in mind I head back home. I shower and get ready for school. Alpha Sean’s visit has all of us on edge today. Dad has barely slept all week and mom has been busy re cleaning everything. Even Katia, as jet-lagged as ever, is up early this morning. I quickly leave home without being seen. As I make my way outside, I see Celeste already getting into a car with her assigned guard. She turns to see me and smiles. It kills me to not be near her every time I see her.

As my guard drives me to school, I get a text message from Celeste. She asks me to meet her in the janitor’s closet located in the basement. I smile at her devious little message.

As we pull into the school’s parking lot, I thank my guard and dash inside. I avoid everyone by going through the side door and making my way to the basement. I find the janitor’s closet dimly lit. I quickly pick up her scent as I open the door.

“Took you long enough” Celeste says as she pulls me in.

She grabs my neck and goes in for a kiss. I take her by the waist as I pull her closer to me. I greedily kiss her back as I feel her lips hurriedly kissing me back. My fingers entwined in her hair as my lips move to the side of her neck where my mark would go. She lets out a small moan as I feel her body relax.

“You’re so beautiful” I whisper into her ear. She smiles at this while I continue to kiss the side of her neck.

I places my lips back on her soft lips and enter her mouth. Her grip on my neck becomes tighter as I feel her tongue on mine. I don’t know how long we’ve been in each other’s embrace when she pulls away panting. I gently let her go as she composes herself.

“That’s an amazing way to start our day” I tell her.

She giggles, “I figured we could sneak in some time for us today”

I adjust my school blazer as she picks up her book bag off the floor. I peak outside the door to make sure no one is in the hallway before we leave the closet.

“What class do you have now?” I ask her.

“The worst one. World History” she tells me as she rolls her eyes. I laugh as I know how painful those lectures can be. Professor Wilson’s monotone speeches can make anyone’s ears bleed.

“What about you?” She asks

“Physics” I tell her “Although, I have been struggling in this class for some time now”

“I can help you. It was one of my favorite classes” she tells me gleefully.

I turn to look at her and catch her smiling at me. Damn I’m so lucky. I just want to grab her and kiss her right now. Not only is she incredibly beautiful but she’s extremely smart. Although she ranks first in our class, she doesn’t brag about it like the other brainiacs do.

“I would love for you to tutor me” I tell her in a slight but low growl. She blushes as she playfully shoves me. We begin to ascend the stairs when we hear footsteps behind us. Suddenly a rush of wind hits us both. We stop to turn around but find no one. Strange. I don’t pick up anyone’s scent either.

“Is someone there?” I call out.

Silence. Celeste gives me a worried look but I shake my head and shrug.

“Our minds are playing tricks on us” I reassure her. But I swear I could have felt someone behind us. Even the gush of wind felt so real. She nods as we enter the main hallway. Classes haven’t begun and everyone is still scrambling to get to their lockers.

“I’ll see you later” Celeste whispers to me. I wink at her as she blushes once more. She walks away but turns around to look at me. My heart skips a beat as she smiles at me. She then continues to walk away.

I make my way down the hall when someone suddenly grabs my arm and pulls me to the side.

“What the-“

“Nice to see you” She says interrupting me.

I couldn’t believe it. It was Cynthia. She’s missed school all week but was now standing right before me. She moves closer to me and eyes me suspiciously. Her blonde hair pulled into a tight bun, and the bags under her eyes were now noticeable. She smiles as she notices me eyeing her.

“Babe, what’s wrong?” She tells me as she caresses my cheek. I instantly move my face away but this only makes her laugh.

“What are you doing?” I ask her suspiciously.

“You’re so silly” She says laughing. She’s officially lost it. If deranged were a person, it’d be Cynthia.

“What are you doing?” I ask her again. She moves even closer towards me but I stand my ground.

“You’re no fun” she whispers. She smiles as she continues, “I’ve had a long week to think about us and I realized that we’re perfect. Perfect together, as a couple. Don’t you think?”

“What? What are you talking about? You and I are over. We’re done Cynthia”

She snickers at this remark, “You’re silly. We took a small break but that’s over now. From this day forward, you and I will always be together”

I move away from her as I feel my blood is boiling now. I hear the bell ring but neither one of us moves. Everyone around us is now hurriedly making their way to class. Soon it’s just me and Cynthia.

“Stop this, okay. I don’t want to be with you” I tell her firmly. She laughs again but I manage to keep calm this time.

“Oh but you will”

“No, I’m pretty sure we’re done”.

She crosses her arms and whispers again, “You will because I know about you and Celeste”

A shiver runs down my spine as I feel my body become limp. Cynthia smirks as she notices how motionless I’ve become. I can hear Hunter growling in my mind as her intentions become clear to us.

“See I didn’t see it before but I’ve had so much time to think this past week” She pauses as she smiles again.

“Cynthia-“

“It made me think of all the times you came to her rescue and how angry you become when someone mentions her and… Scott”

I let out a small growl at her bringing up Celeste and Scott. I know I have nothing to compete with now but the thought of my mate being with another brings a wave of rage within me. She smirks as I’ve just proven her point, yet again.

“Leave Celeste out of this” I angrily spit back.

“No because you both lied to me-“

“We didn’t lie” I cut back.

“Yes you did. You both didn’t think I’d figure it out but I did. You guys thought I was so stupid…My boyfriend and my best friend…” She says trailing off. Her lip quivers as she lowers her eyes.

Guilt overcomes me as I realize I should have been honest from the beginning. I had so many chances to tell Cynthia the truth but I didn’t. Now she stood before me, exposing me for the coward that I was.

“She’s my mate Cyn” I tell her quietly. She doesn’t react to this remark as she continue to look down at the floor. She knows how important mates are but she also knows how mate bonds don’t matter to Alpha Sean.

“Why?” She asks suddenly looking up.

“What?”

“Why is she your mate? She’s a beta!” She says as she take my hand into hers. I don’t push her hand way this time as I want to see how far she’ll go with this.

“Cynthia, just stop”

“No because you and I are supposed to be together” She angrily tells me.

“You’ll find your mate one day” I try reassuring her but she laughs as I say this.

“I’ve got you. I don’t want a mate”

“Cyn-“

“And you’ve got me” she leans in to whisper again, “Unless you want me to tell Alpha Sean about you and Celeste”

“Don’t you dare” I growl at her. I feel my claws extending as Hunter tries to make his way out.

“I won’t tell him…unless you say as I do”

“No. I c-c-can’t. I won’t do this to Celeste” I stutter as I think about this lose-lose situation. On one hand if I agree to get back together with Cynthia, I hurt Celeste. On the other hand if I don’t agree then we run the risk of Cynthia telling Alpha Sean the truth. That’s an even worse fate. He’s notorious for breaking mate bonds one way or another. Hunter howls in pain as we weight our options.

“Don’t think about it too hard” Cynthia laughs, “Think about it this way, if we get back together then you’ll get to keep her alive… until further notice” She continues laughing as she sees my face change. It keeps getting harder to restrain Hunter as she continues.

Let me out! She just threatened our mate’s life!

NO! CALM DOWN! We’re still at school! She won’t hurt Celeste!

HOW DO YOU KNOW?!

Because she won’t! If I agree to this then Celeste is safe for now! Until I figure something out!

We run the risk of hurting Celeste! We can’t hurt our mate anymore!

For a while but I rather her be alive than dead! Please just help me!

NO!…I don’t like this Noah

Neither do I but we’ve got no choice. This is the only way to keep her safe. PLEASE!

Hunter whimpers as I feel him agree with me. My heart sinks as I think about Celeste. I think about how much this will hurt her and how we were just getting comfortable with each other.

“Fine” I say in a growl but this doesn’t faze her. She smirks as she reaches for my cheek again. I move away so she won’t touch me.

“I’ll see you later then” She blows me a kiss as she turns around and heads for class.

I stand there for a while as I contemplate all my options. All of which lead to Celeste and I being apart.

“Get to class Mr.Allard” Professor James says interrupting my thoughts. I nod as I slowly walk to class.

*CELESTE’S P.O.V*

The remainder of classes have been canceled today. After lunch, the school will have an assembly to welcome Alpha Sean to our territories. We all had to come to school presentable and we’ll groomed, Headmaster Murphy was very strict on this.

I head to the library to drop off some books I had borrowed when I pass by Alicia and Fiona. Those two are the walking gossip columnists of our school.

“I heard that Noah and Cynthia got back together” Alicia says in disbelief.

“Really? Wasn’t he the one that ended it?” Asked Fiona.

“Yeah but I wonder why” Laughed Alicia as they kept on walking.

I couldn’t believe what I just heard. I felt my heart beating in my ears as I walked to the library. As usual no one is here, but what’s more surprising is that none of the omegas were here either. I peak through the window which overlooks the tables outside. That’s when I spot them. Over by the cherry blossom tree. Cynthia and Noah. She’s hugging his arm with her head resting on his shoulder. So it’s true, they got back together. I couldn’t believe it. Perhaps it was too good to be true. What he and I had wasn’t meant to be. Feeling the tears cloud my vision, I back away from the window.

I find a table towards the very back of the library where I spend the rest of my lunch time. My phone vibrates as my friends ask where I am. But I can’t face them right now, so I put my phone on silent. Soon the three-sound bell rings to indicate a school assembly is starting. I wait awhile before heading down. As I suspected, the only seats open are the back rows with a few gammas and all the omegas.

“Celeste” Cassie whispers to me. She motions for me to sit next to her. The other omegas give me weird looks but I make my way towards her.

“Hey Cassie” I whisper back as I sit besides her.

All the chatter dies down as headmaster Murphy walks in with the rest of the school professors.

“Good Afternoon students. As all of you know, we have a very special visitor today. So please give a warm welcome to our leader, Alpha Sean Campbell” Headmaster Murphy tells us. We all give a round of applause as a tall man walks in. Through his suit you can see his well built body. His hazel eyes scan the room as the applause grows louder. His blondish hair neatly parted in a low fade haircut. His fair skin showing no imperfections; almost perfect. I don’t seem to be the only girl to notice how handsome he is. Practically all the alpha and beta girls were drooling as he walked to the front. A brunette follows closely behind, acting as his right hand woman. Her wavy hair falling off her shoulders while confidently walking besides him.

“Good afternoon students” Alpha Sean says. He goes on about what a pleasure it is to be here and how he wishes to have more time to visit all of the packs. After his long speech, he lets us know that he will be present for the debutante ball. We all clap again before we are dismissed.

I notice Alpha Sean offside speaking to Noah before I leave. Cynthia right besides him as she scans the room. When our eyes meet, she gives me a smirk. She rests her head on his shoulder as I quickly look away. Rushing out of that assembly, I meet Arnold by the parking lot.

“Beta Celeste?” Arnold questions me. I feel the tears running down my face as I climb into the backseat of the car.

“I’m fine Arnold” I tell him as I wipe away my tears. He gets into the drivers seat and turns back to look at me.

“I’m sorry you had a crappy day Celeste” He tells me while finally addressing me by my name. I smile a little as he laughs. The drive home is calming as I watch the cars pass by. Arnold stops by the entrance and I walk home. Inside my room, I find a brand new dress for tonight on my bed. A burgundy chiffon dress with matching heels. Making sure no one bothers me, I take a nap inside Max’s room. I quickly drift off into a deep dream. I realize I’m inside what must be a pack house. A woman suddenly enters cradling her stomach as a man follows behind.

“We should go now!” The woman tells him. Sweat runs down her forehead as she’s protectively holds her belly.

“Shhhh! Keep your voice down” He tells her. He places his hand on her belly as she looks at him with wide eyes.

“We have to protect the twins” She whispers to him. He nods as he kisses her on the head. She suddenly loses her balance as she holds her belly tighter. He quickly holds her up as she whispers, “It’s time!”
