Chapter 4

"What?!" Elena repeated. "Stop shouting you sound like a broken record" Jared hushed her "Isn't this what you wanted in the first place?" "Of course I want to be with you as your bride and yes it has always been my dream but this just sounds weird plus you just said you wanted Karen and not me. So what's the catch?" Elena looked straight into Jared's eyes, a bit of her hoped that there was no catch, that he had suddenly started loving her again like he once did. Jared was taken aback by her speech "Marrying me is your dream?" "It has always been. So? What's the catch?" Elena dismissed his speculation. Jared's face turned a deep red and be was thankful that it was night so she wouldn't see it "A 3 mo…mon…months wedding" he stammered. "Then what? What will happen after 3 months?" Elena's curiosity was peaked. "We would get divorced and then I can marry Karen. Hence I won't be breaking any rules" Jared said. "But won't that be shady, I doubt everyone would fall victim to such a charade" Elena complained. "About 100 years ago my great grandfather who was the Lycan King at that time did the same thing" he paused "He wedded his mate and then divorced her after 6 months of marriage saying she was unfilial for whatever reasons he had". He sat down beside her "After his divorce he took a chosen mate and as you can see I am proof that his lineage continued" he looked at her with those mesmerizing eyes of his and she couldn't breathe under his gaze "So, will you marry me?" He asked again. Elena swallowed hard "What's in it for me?" He sighed deeply "Didn't you just say you would do anything to gain my forgiveness?" "You are right, I said that" she looked disappointed "I will do it, I'll marry you. As long as you would stop hating me I'm ready to do anything". Jared suddenly felt sympathetic towards her "Alright, I will make it worth your while. After the divorce I will grant you a pardon to remarry and you will be able to keep your title as an ex-royal, that means your treason record will be gone and you can live a normal life again" he smiled proudly at his offer "How does that sound to you?" Elena on the other hand didn't look so pleased "Sounds good, thanks". All she really wanted was to be with him like in the past before the incident, reality was beginning to hit her again. Choosing to ignore her reaction, he got up and took out the engagement ring then put it on her finger " Well it's settled then, we wed tomorrow". "Tomorrow!? Isn't that too soon?" she exclaimed. "Exactly my point, the sooner the better " he laughed. "Are you seeing my face? I have bruises everywhere. I know it's just a fake wedding but I still need to look presentable" she felt around her face frantically counting the bruises. He knelt before her and cupped her face with his hand, her face was warm to his touch. He suddenly felt his body harden with desire and his eyes darkened, he always found it hard to control his emotions around her "No matter how ragged you are you will always be the prettiest in any room" his words carried a weight of honesty in them, he had truly mean what he said. Her heart sank and her eyes welled up again. It had been ages since he complimented her looks. "But if you insist then we will have the wedding in a week, it should give you enough time to heal and I will assign you some ladies to take care of your appearance" he said as he eyed her from up to down. He got up and turned around to leave "What are you still doing there, let's go" he said to her after taking a few steps. "Go where?" She asked. He smiled "Your new home for the next 3 months". *** Jared chose a small wedding setting as this was a fake wedding anyway. He had only invited the Elders and Alphas of the Packs in the Union as well as a few acquaintances and friends, he had kept it as a closed wedding which meant Pack members weren't allowed to attend. He didn't see the point in inviting everyone when he was still going to have to invite them all in 3 months for his actual wedding. "Where is your bride?" Travis asked Jared. "How should I know, I haven't even seen her all week" he said. Travis sighed "The ceremony is about to start go and take your stand, I'll bring her out in a few minutes". It was an outdoor wedding with a flower isle and a raised platform where the bride and groom were meant to stand. Jared walked down the isle to the platform, he took another look at the wedding rings then smiled. This was a day he didn't think would ever come. The guests began to applaud and Jared looked up to see the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. His lips went dry and his heart rate increased two-folds as he watched Elena walk down the isle in her long flowing silky white gown, he couldn't breathe properly and suddenly became nervous. "Hi" she said with a smile when she reached where he was standing. "You look extraordinary" was all he could say back. They turned to the Union Priest and the marriage ritual began. They exchanged their vows and rings and the ceremony was over. They were wed. Jared was getting a drink at the makeshift bar, he had not wanted an after party but it was tradition to celebrate the marriage union of the Lycan King and his Luna with a party after the wedding ceremony. "I ask you once again, where is your bride" Travis said walking up to Jared. "And once again my answer is the same, I have no idea" Jared retorted. "Well don't just stand there go and look for her, you both have to make a toast in 20 minutes" Travis patted him on the back and walked away. Jared started his search, he had checked out a couple of places and was about to go back to the party when he heard muffles, like someone was quietly sobbing "Elena?" He asked. "Jared… umm what… what are you… were you looking for me" her words stumbled out as she cleaned her tears quickly. "Are you crying?" Jared asked in shock. She chuckled "No, of course not, I was just… something got into my eyes so I was…" "Elena" Jared crotched down before her "What is the matter". She was silent for awhile "It's nothing I swear, it's just that this marriage…" she paused "...it was supposed to be everything but it's fake and I thought I could handle it but I can't" she started crying again "You are the only one I have left in this world and it just feels so sad knowing that this is all fake and in 3 months this wouldn't even be a thing anymore". "I'm sorry I'm being this emotional when I promised to play along, just ignore me and go back to the party" she said while trying to avoid his eyes. Jared wiped her tears with his hands "You have nothing to be sorry for" he wasn't sure if it was the mood or her tears or the wedding but he couldn't resist it and before he knew what he was doing he was kissing her passionately.
