Once they were in the study, and seated, Meikah couldn’t bring herself to look in her grandmother’s direction. Nor could she find the words to tell her Maksim was in serious trouble.
“Tell me what happened, Meikie.”
“Did you want me to explain?” Kellan asked.
Meikah shook her head, drawing in a deep breath as she tried to find the words. “It’s Grandfather Maksim.”
Isha frowned. “What do you mean it’s Maksim? What about Maksim?”
“He’s been captured.” Meikah gave all the pieces of paper to Isha. “He was on a mission for the Duke and it seems like the people he was investigating caught him.”
Isha looked up from the piece of paper she was reading. “Why were you informed? Why didn’t they come to me? Why did they send you to tell me?”
