SERENA
It’s my wedding day, but I’m the most unhappy bride alive.
weddings should be the happiest day of a woman’s life. For me, it feels like the walls are closing in, trapping me in a life I never asked for.
I sit in front of the large mirror, my reflection staring back at me. The dress is perfect; white silk, delicate lace on the sleeves, a veil pinned neatly in my hair. My makeup is soft and flawless, the kind that makes you look effortless even though it took an hour to achieve. Anyone looking at me right now would think I’m a picture of a joyful bride. But my eyes give me away.
They’re empty.
The bouquet rests on the vanity beside me, a mix of white roses and lilies. I didn't touch it. I don’t want to. Everything about today feels like I’m borrowing someone else’s life, playing a role I was never meant for.
Alpha Julian Reign. That’s the name of the man I’m marrying. My father arranged it, told me it was for the best, for the pack, and for me. He never explained much more than that. I haven't heard of an Alpha named Julian. I don’t know what kind of man he is.
I try to picture him. Maybe he’s older, with graying hair and a stern voice. Or maybe he’s young but arrogant, the type who thinks a wife is another trophy to display. Maybe he’s cold, someone who only knows how to talk about business. Or maybe he’s silent, unreadable, keeping his thoughts locked away where I’ll never reach them.
Then my mind strayed to Kade.
My stomach twists painfully just thinking about him. The last time I saw him, it didn’t end well. Kade isn’t the kind of man who lets go easily. He’s possessive, unpredictable… dangerous in ways that make my pulse quicken. If he finds out I’m getting married today, he won’t sit quietly somewhere and accept it. He’ll show up. And if he shows up, my wedding could turn into something far worse than a disaster.
The door opened.
I already know who it is from the tone of her voice.
“Wow,” Alina says, stepping inside. “Look at you. Almost believable as a bride.”
I see her gaze in the mirror. My twin sister. The same face as mine, but with a smile full of venom. She looks at me from head to toe like I’m something to laugh at.
“What do you want, Alina?” I asked.
“Just wanted to see the lucky groom’s victim before the ceremony.” She walks in further, her heels clicking against the floor. “You’re shaking. Nervous? Or scared? Or maybe…” she tilts her head, “you’re hoping someone will crash this wedding.”
I grip the edge of my gown “Leave.”
Her smile widens. “Don’t speak to your Alpha in such a harsh tone. I also want to let you know I’ll be sitting in the front row, watching every second. I wouldn’t miss this for the world.”
She turns and walks out, humming the wedding march as if mocking me with every step. Alina had taken my place as Alpha in waiting. This has been her plan all along. To take my place. This marriage was originally supposed to be hers, after I'd win the contract and earn the reward from my father.
Instead, she drugged and led me into the bed of Kade, our pack’s nemesis.
I close my eyes, trying to steady my breathing. My heart feels like it’s trying to escape my chest. I don’t want to cry. Crying would ruin the makeup, and that would be one more thing for my father to scold me about.
Minutes later, the music starts..
I take a deep breath and pick up my bouquet. My legs feel stiff, my feet heavy, but somehow I make it to the door. They open slowly, revealing the aisle. The church is packed—friends, extended family, people I’ve never seen before.
At the altar is Alpha King Julian….
He’s… handsome. Tall, broad shoulders, dark hair, sharp jawline. His suit is perfectly tailored, fitting him like it was made for him which it probably was. But his eyes… they don’t light up when they see me. There’s no smile, no flicker of excitement. If anything, he looks slightly bored, like this is a business deal he’s here to finalize, nothing more.
I reach the altar and stand beside him. The priest starts speaking, but my mind is a storm. My palms sweat around the bouquet, my breathing shallow.
“We're gathered here to witness the wedding..”
“Let's skip that part.” His voice came out stern and cold, his eyes darted away from mine towards the crowd. From his demeanor, he definitely hated me. I didn't like him either, but I never expected him to despise me this much.
“Say your vows” The priest says quickly.
I had practiced the lines in my thoughts.
Before I could say anything, the church doors slammed open. The church gasped like they had seen the devil.
I froze
Kade.
He walks in like he owns the place. Dark suit, finely tailored dark shirt, no tie. His hair is perfectly styled, his expression unreadable but his eyes locked on me. In his hand is a small black gift box.
My heart races so fast it’s almost painful. My breathing becomes uneven. I can’t look away from him. My father's men quickly protected the venue, hovering around him. I knew how powerful Kade was, he could kill them in just a swing of his claws.
Julian’s jaw tightens. “What the hell is he doing here?” he mutters under his breath, his voice low but sharp.
Kade stops a few steps away from us, still looking at me. Then his gaze shifts to Julian, his lips curling into a slight smile. “Relax. I just came to bring a wedding gift… to my cousin.”
Cousin?
I blink, staring between them. I see some resemblance.
Julian’s expression hardens even more. “You’re not welcome here, Kade.”
Kade smirks. “Is that how you talk to family on such a special day?”
My grip on the bouquet tightening. My thoughts are spinning. How could I not have known?
The air in the church feels heavy. Everyone’s watching, whispering. My father shifts uncomfortably in the front row, but he doesn’t move. The priest glances between us like he’s wondering if the ceremony should continue.
Kade steps forward, holding out the black box. “Congratulations,” he says, his voice calm but his eyes locked on mine in a way that makes my skin prickle.
Julian signals his guard to take it. “you can leave,” he says firmly.
Kade shrugs, he smiles at me like he knows something no one else does. “Happy wedding Day.”
