Zrayne's eyes turned cold and flashed with killing intent. He glared at Chiara so fiercely that she trembled with fright. "Don't you ever treat my mate like that!" Zrayne strode toward Aneyla and wrapped his arms around her. He pulled her into his embrace and stared at her in concern. "Are you okay?" Aneyla bit her lower lip and nodded her head. She whispered, "I'm fine." Her heart turned warm, and hot tears pooled in her eyes. No one had ever protected her before except Dream. Yet Dream didn't know much about the Heroux family and how much worse they could get. Could it be that Aneyla was really going to get a new chance in life? For the first time, someone would stand up for Aneyla and wouldn't be shy to declare that they belonged together. It made Aneyla feel uncontrollably happy. Chiara snapped out of her reverie and looked at Zrayne, then Aneyla, in shock. "Did you just say this pig is your mate..." Zrayne's eyes turned cold, and he looked at Chiara sharply. "What did you just say?" Chiara's face turned pale with fright. She ran into the mansion and yelled at the top of her voice. "Mom. Mom, Alpha Zrayne Vilcot is Aneyla's mate." "No f*****g way!" Chester sprang up from the sitting room and walked out. Immediately, the whole family ran outside to take a look. What? Aneyla was Alpha Zrayne's mate? Who was Zrayne Vilcot? Zrayne Vilcot was the only child of the Vilcot family—a family that had been leading the Crayola Pack from the beginning of its time. While the current president of the Crayola nation didn't stem from the Vilcot family, it still didn't undermine their influence because the Vilcot family controlled almost half of the Crayola nation and the neighboring nation's business industry, and their influence dove deep into politics. With the family having roles of prime minister, ministers, commissioners, etc. And Zrayne Vilcot? He was a child genius already worth hundreds of millions even from birth. And by the time Zrayne was in his teens, he was already working with the higher-ups of the Vilcot company and making major decisions while opening his own company that ended up breaking industry records and reaching the billionaire mark in less than five years. Zrayne held and broke countless records. He was everything that Aneyla could never be. How could it be that this pig was the one who was mates with Zrayne Vilcot of all people? There were so many pretty women in the country and around the world, and Zrayne could have them without lifting a finger. How could he settle for a good-for-nothing like Aneyla just because she was his mate? How many people believed in that nonsense called a mate bond anyway? Mrs. Heroux's eyes flashed with unhappiness and jealousy. Her daughter was so brilliant and outstanding compared to Aneyla. What right did this miserable girl have to outshine her daughter again and again? Yet despite all these thoughts, a fawning smile appeared on Mrs. Heroux's face, and she wrapped her arms around Aneyla's shoulder like they were loving family. "Aneyla, good girl, why didn't you tell us Alpha Zrayne is your mate? We would have prepared for his arrival and tried to welcome him properly..." Aneyla felt a trace of disgust overwhelm her, making her want to barf. A few minutes ago, Mrs. Heroux had been looking at Aneyla with disgust and had looked down at the idea that Aneyla had a mate. "You didn't seem to care about my mate..." Mrs. Heroux's expression changed upon seeing Aneyla tear down her facade. This nasty girl. Now she'd become sharp-mouthed because she had Alpha Zrayne as her mate? Yet she smiled fawningly like a cunning old fox. "How can it be? I pay attention to all the things that you do. Especially an important matter like a mate that you'll spend your life with." Aneyla's eyes flickered with disgust. If her mate had turned out to be a completely different person with less status, Mrs. Heroux wouldn't even cast an eye at him, and the whole Heroux family would disgrace him. But because Aneyla's mate was Zrayne Vilcot, Mrs. Heroux finally realized that Aneyla was a member of the family and Aneyla's mate was also a family member. Aneyla just couldn't wait for the month to end so she could leave here! Aneyla held Zrayne's hand and squeezed it. "Let's go." If she kept staying here, she was afraid she would completely lose her good mood. Zrayne nodded his head and gently led Aneyla to his car. Mrs. Heroux's and Chiara's expressions changed. They knew that this wench would really become different and wouldn't recognize their family once she made it. Aneyla had just learned that Zrayne was her mate, yet she'd already started putting on airs. Chiara suddenly jumped in front of them and excitedly asked while smiling sweetly and blinking her eyes innocently, "Can I come along? I promise I won't be a third wheel, and you won't notice my presence." She even grabbed Aneyla's hand and pulled it sweetly, like they'd always had a good relationship with each other. Chiara's eyes flashed. If she could get the chance she was asking for, she was definitely going to let Zrayne fall in love with her in minutes. This pig—how could she be worthy of Zrayne? Zrayne didn't even glance at Chiara. He wrapped his arms around Aneyla and strode to his car. Zrayne opened the passenger door and gently tucked Aneyla in before walking straight toward the driver's seat. Still, Chiara was quite persistent. She ran toward Zrayne and clasped her hands together. "Alpha Zrayne, I..." *BANG!* The door was coldly shut in Chiara's face. Zrayne turned on the ignition and drove the car out of the Heroux mansion. Chiara ran toward her mother and folded her arms. She pouted her lips and stomped her feet against the floor. "That pig must have said something bad about me. Zrayne is supposed to notice me. He even disregarded the family." Mrs. Heroux stroked Chiara's hair, eyes turning cold. "She did it on purpose. She purposely made me misunderstand who her mate was. That wench." Mrs. Heroux turned toward her daughter and stroked her hair endearingly. "Mom believes in you, Chiara. I was supposed to kick her out once she's eighteen, but since she has a good mate like Zrayne, we have to hold her tight. When Zrayne keeps coming and going from the mansion, how can Zrayne not notice you and fall in love with you? She's just an orphan. She has no right to outshine you. All the good things belong to you, sweetheart, and Mom will make sure you have them." Chiara's eyes lit up, and she wrapped her arms around Mrs. Heroux. Suddenly, Chiara stomped her feet against the ground. "But I hate seeing that pig's face." How could a measly orphan be prettier than her? Even brilliant enough to get into one of the most elite and prestigious high schools in the nation and the world? Sometimes Chiara really wanted to give in to the urge to draw lines and ruin that b***h's face. Mrs. Heroux's eyes flashed with irritation. "You think I don't? If it wasn't for those stupid orphanages that refused to let us pick the kid of our choice and gave us such a dumb kid." It was very annoying. It turned out they'd had to select by name without seeing the face. By the time they'd chosen the name of the handsome boy they wanted, the boy had been adopted by someone else, and the orphanage had resorted to giving them Aneyla. After picking a child, they couldn't return them back because it would appear as if they looked down on the child, and it would bruise the child's fragile ego. Who cared about a stupid orphan's fragile ego? Didn't they just want to show how good of citizens they were and make everyone praise them by choosing to raise an orphan? "Perhaps it's not bad. If we'd chosen that boy then, maybe we would never have crossed Zrayne's path. You need to be on your best from now on." Chiara reluctantly accepted the situation. She nodded her head and let go of her mother. "Mom, I have to change my closet. I know Zrayne will return to the house just to return that wench later in the day, which will give me a chance to win him over. I have to go shopping. Those clothes of mine won't attract his attention." Mrs. Heroux nodded in satisfaction, and she indulged Chiara. "Yes. Take my card. Just select whatever you want."
