Chapter 2 My Boyfriend Spoils Me

596 Words
Before I could even say anything sarcastic, Randall was fully dressed and standing by the door. He'd even picked out a bright, checkered tie, which he'd never worn before. He'd always thought it too flashy. Where he was going now didn't need to be said. I said calmly, "Going to see her? To satisfy the urges you never bothered to act on with me?" He turned around, his eyes ice-cold. "She's nothing like you. You're just a schemer who only wants a baby to hold onto your place." The harsh words barely shook me. I felt strangely calm. "Randall, we've tried for three years and never had a child. Are you really that sure of yourself?" Randall's face darkened completely. He snarled that I was crazy and turned to leave. I didn't sleep a wink that night. I sat on the bed and watched the night slowly fade into daylight. I stretched my stiff back, and a sharp pain shot through my whole body. When I turned to look in the mirror, I shocked myself. When had I gotten so thin? It was worrying; I could almost see my ribs. No wonder Randall had gone for a lively college girl like her. I grabbed a lipstick I hadn't used in ages and added a touch of color. I stared at my reflection and slowly smiled. From that day on, I knew it was time for a change. I called the best men's health clinic in the city. "Name: Randall Scott. I'd like to book an appointment for a men's health checkup—tomorrow afternoon. Yes, for my husband." Soon after, I got myself ready. I took my wedding diamond ring and headed out. If this marriage gave me no love, I was going to get something for myself. But I never expected to run into Adara at the jewelry store. I walked up to the counter and slipped the ring off my finger. "This ring is a custom limited edition. The diamond is of high quality. I want to sell it." The clerk knew fine jewelry when she saw it. She could tell right away that the ring was valuable. Just then, Adara pushed forward. She stared at the ring and spoke up. "This ring is pretty. I want to buy it." The clerk's smile froze. She glanced at Adara, then back at me. "But this lady hasn't sold it yet..." I looked up. There was that familiar, stinging face. She was even younger and prettier in person than in the photos. But she was clearly an impatient kid—already rushing to pick a fight. But I wasn't going to turn down money. It was lucky I'd found a buyer. Adara looked at me and faked a shocked expression. "Oh, it's you." I didn't want to waste time playing games with her. I gave her my price directly. "Ten million dollars." The ring was only worth four million dollars at most. If she wanted to show off in front of me, I'd let her. She flipped her hair and glanced at me disdainfully. "Please, that's nothing. My boyfriend spoils me. I can spend his money however I want." With that, she pulled a fancy black card out of her brand-new bag and waved it in front of me like a trophy. I stared blankly at the black card in her hand. A ringing filled my ears. Rage flooded my chest and dragged me into deep, bitter pain. I'd thought I'd been hurt enough the night before. But I never imagined something even worse could happen.
