Eyes of Love

Elira had always been the star of her middle school — the top student, the pride of her teachers, and the apple of her family’s eye. But that year, everything changed. When the high school entrance exam results were announced, her name wasn’t on the list she had dreamed of. For the first time in her life, Elira had failed. At first, she couldn’t believe it. The disappointment stung deeply, but somewhere inside, she had known it might happen. During the summer, while others prepared for new schools or vacations, Elira tried to rest her mind. Eventually, she, her brothers, and their mother traveled to their grandmother’s village for the holidays. The peace of the countryside helped her heal, little by little. When the new school year approached, Elira learned she had been placed in a nearby high school in her neighborhood. It wasn’t the school she had hoped for, but it was a new beginning. She threw herself into preparing — shopping for notebooks, pens, and her crisp new uniform. The morning of the first day, excitement and nerves tangled in her chest. “A new school, a new class… and new friends,” she whispered to herself as she tied her hair into a ponytail and sat down for breakfast. After checking her bag one last time, she stepped out of the house. The walk to school was long, but Elira always walked fast. Halfway there, she heard someone call out, “Hey!” She turned around and saw a familiar face — the son of the shopkeeper from the local market. He was a year older, already in high school, and seemed happy to see her. They walked together, talking about school and teachers. He told her not to worry — that classes weren’t as hard as they seemed if she just kept working. When they reached the school gates, a crowd of students had already gathered. The principal stood before them with a microphone, welcoming everyone to the new year. His voice echoed through the courtyard, full of hope and authority. After the speech, the students were directed to find their classrooms. Elira scanned the lists posted on the wall and found her name under 9-B. Her heart fluttered as she stepped into the unfamiliar room. Everything felt strange — new faces, new walls, new air. While others started chatting and making friends right away, Elira sat quietly, watching them with a shy smile. Soon, a teacher entered and began handing out textbooks. The first lesson passed quickly. There were only four classes that day. When the final bell rang, Elira gathered her heavy books, exhausted but happy. At home, she carefully arranged her books on the shelf, already thinking about tomorrow. She didn’t know it yet, but this was the beginning of a journey that would change her — a journey full of challenges, friendships, and moments she would never forget.
