So... A fight was all it took to make everyone accept me.
I... it feels surreal.
I don't think it should be this easy.
"Stop looking so astonished, you should be happy," Anika said, nudging my arm lightly.
Happy.
“I am,” I whispered. “I just… don’t trust that it’s real yet. They were ready to murder me the moment I stepped into the room, but now they forgot?”
Ani sighed, scooting closer across the bed until her knee brushed mine. “They didn't forget, they just decided to let it go because you are my mate and they know you regret it."
Her hand reached toward mine, hesitating only a heartbeat before our fingers intertwined. My heart stuttered. I didn’t deserve even this—her warmth, her presence, her patience—but she was giving it anyway.
I swallowed hard.
