The next day Asher woke up with a pounding headache, he held his forehead as he got up from the bed. He glanced round the room, and frowned. It wasn't his room.
He gazed at the ceiling and slowly the memories of the previous night rushed to his head. He was rejected by Ellie, drenched in the rain, went to the bar and ordered two bottles of spirit. He recalled seeing Javon and recalled he helped him into the car. Obviously, he was in Javon's house.
His mind wandered away to Ellie, luckily he didn't get a cold, perhaps the spirit he drank in excess the previous night helped him.
Finally he got out of bed, looked at himself and noticed the sleep wear on him. His gaze landed on the nightstand, there were two tablets in a glass saucer, beside it was a glass of clear liquid.
He move closely, picked up a tablet and inspected it. He recognized the drug, it was aspirin a painkiller. Javon must have known he would wake up with pounding headache so made preparations for him.
He picked the second tablet, then the glass of water and swallowed the tablets. Done, he opened the door and left the bedroom.
In the sitting room was Javon, already dressed for work. "Awake?" He asked the moment Asher came into the sitting room.
"Thank you for last night,"
Javon bobbed his head, dropped his briefcase on the sofa, then walked up to him. "How are you feeling?"
Asher shrugged " better, I took the drugs you left for me, thank you,"
Javon nodded, stared at him momentarily, then glanced at his wrist watch. "We need to talk,"
Asher nodded, he needed someone to talk to, so he sat in an empty sofa and Javon sat beside him.
There was a momentarily silence in the sitting room.
"Ellie left me," Asher spoke, breaking the silence.
"She left me Javon," his voice was bleak.
Javon stared into his face, his face warped in confusion."I don't get it,"
Asher shrugged, "I'm no longer good enough for her, she prefers Cruz now," he suddenly held his forehead as his head began to ache more.
Javon gave him a dazed look of bewilderment. He couldn't comprehend what his friend was saying. "Ellie? Cruz? How?"
Taking in a deep breath, Asher narrated all that happened in the past few weeks.
"Goodness!!" Javon tilted his head quizzically. "How could she, after five years?" His eyelids fluttered as he wagged his head repeatedly.
Javon paused and thought for a moment. "Cruz is really something!"
He stared at his friend who wore a desolate expression. "I'm sorry man." Little wonder his friend almost drank to stupor the previous night, who wouldn't? He knew how much Asher loved Ellie, how much he had sacrificed for her, plans he had for them.
He wasn't unaware of the challenges he faced daily in D-Tech, the scornful words and attitudes of his mother and brother.
"Please take it easy," he didn't know what to say to him or how to comfort him.
"Cruz?" Javon mumbled. How could Ellie jilt Asher for his younger brother? It was very unfair.
"She said I disgust her," A heavy sigh left his lips.
Javon felt sorry for him, he couldn't imagine what his friend was passing through. "What do you intend to do now?
Asher spread his hands out. "What else? Move on!"
"Man up! Put yourself together Ash, tomorrow holds the best,"
Asher nodded in agreement. "Yes, tomorrow hold the best," and the room became silent , everyone wandering in their own thoughts.
"Puff" Asher got up, "I'm famished, is there food in the kitchen?" His stomach had been rumbling since he woke up.
"I knew you will need to eat as soon as you wake up so I ordered something. It's in the microwave,"
Asher made his way to the kitchen, "thank you, I'll leave once I freshen up."
"Drinking to stupor wouldn't have helped Asher!! No matter what, your health is important," then he picked up his briefcase.
"Your car is still parked there," he yelled as he left the house.
"Thank you Javon," he muttered while heating up his food.
Once he had eaten and freshened up, he wore the set of suit he saw in the closet. Javon must have placed it there as it was Asher's exact size. Done, he left the house, took a cab to Bar de Baron where he parked his car the previous night.
He got into his car and drove straight to office. He worked like never before, ensured he was busy through out the day to avoid thinking about Ellie.
He glanced at his wrist watch, it was already lunch time. He picked up his car key and his phone then headed out.
Once he got to Springpot restaurant, he parked his car and hastily made his way into the restaurant. He glanced around and saw and empty table, strode towards it but halted when he saw a person.
He pinned his gaze on the couple who were seated at the far end of the hall. The man was all smiles and the lady was obviously blushing. They looked loved up, the man took some food with the spoon and the lady slowly opened her mouth to take the food, then the man bent over and kissed her lips.
Asher's expression darkened and he suddenly lost appetite to eat. He took a quick glance round the hall, turned and left hastily.
In his car, he tried to suppress his surging emotions, his heart was pulling out of his chest, his hands tightly clenched and his finger dug into his palm.
He bit his lips tightly as a wave of despair brushed over him. In there was the woman he loved for five years and his brother he had known for more than two decades sharing kisses.
They looked happy together. So Ellie never loved him, Ellie had always loved Cruz, she deceived him for five years, her hatred for Cruz was unreal?
The more he thought about those things, the more his heart ached. "Ellie you're really something!!" He growled furiously.
Shutting his eyes tightly, he managed to clear his raging thoughts then took a decision. "I'll move on Ellie, I'll try and forget you!" As he said those words, his heart was intensely pierced, it was bleeding.
He unclenched his hands, rubbed his face and nodded, then ignited the engine and drove away. "I won't starve for you!!" His hands gripped the steering tightly as he droved to another restaurant.
In Springpot restaurant, Ellie glared furiously at Cruz, "stop this please," but he compelled her to eat from his spoon.
"You have to keep a smiling face Ellie, you have to make the public believe we are together, " he revealed a broad smile.
"Ple........."
"My rules stands!!" he interrupted her in a deep, low but firm voice causing her to shudder lightly.
"Give me that smiley face honey," he smiled, bent over and kissed her lips again.
Ellie's expression went from bad to worse and she scowled at him. Her action ignited his anger, he dropped the spoon gently on the plate, smacked his lips and narrowed his eyes at her.
"I don't like repeating myself sweetheart, if you don't play along, the Wynn's will pay dearly!! Remember, I hold the key to the Wynn's destruction!!"
Immediately his words left his lips, a beaming smile erupted on her face, but deep in her heart, she wished to throttle him.
"Pervert!!" She cursed inwardly while reluctantly eating the food he fed her.
