Chapter 7

After close of work, Asher waited for an hour and thirty minutes before he left his office. The day wasn't good and wasn't bad either. He fought hard to erase the memories of Ellie, but made no progress. He tried to keep his thoughts at bay but at some certain point, his emotions got a better hold on him. He had decided to move on, difficult it would be, but he would try. He would focus on D-Tech and make his father who had placed so much hope on him proud. Out of the office, he took the elevator to the down floor and headed to the parking lot. Quickly he got into the car and slowly drove to the Hudson's family house. He made his way into the house and just as he expected, his mother and brother were in the sitting room chitter-chattering. The moment they saw him, Cruz shifted his gaze on his mother and they burst into a loud mocking laughter. He didn't pay attention to them, rather headed to the stairs. "Her lips tastes great you know," Cruz's words struck his already painful heart and he stopped dead in his track. He recalled Cruz's and Ellie's actions in the restaurant earlier in the afternoon and his fists unconsciously clenched. "She chose me over you because I'm the real man you couldn't be," his words cut him in several places and his chest contracted. "Relax Asher, she never loved you, move on!" He inwardly buoyed himself up. Instantly, his tensed muscles relaxed and his breathing steadied Slowly, he turned to face Cruz, "I know," then he began to ascend the stairs. Cruz frowned, narrowed his eyes at his mother who wore a frown too. They expected to see him furious, see him react aggressively but he was calm. Nova Hudson stared at his back then sneered, "Is it just that son? She knows he isn't a true Hudson," but Asher didn't stop nor spare them a glance. "If not father who insists on keeping you, what will you be doing in such an aristocrat family!!" Cruz yelled angrily. This time Asher stopped to process what he heard. He turned his gaze on his mother. "You wouldn't have birthed me then, don't you think so?" Nova jumped to her feet and pointed her finger angrily at him."I, birth you? I can't birth a failure? You've been deceived for years!! I'm not your mother!!" Asher lips curled into a small smile. "I know you loathe me mother, but your blood course through my vessels," "Heaven forbid!! It isn't my blood!! I'm not your mother!! He isn't your father!! Fool!!" Her jaw clenched, her eyes hardened as rage flowed through her. Asher was stupefied, he stared at her quizzically for a moment, then turned to leave. He wouldn't pay attention to her anymore. "The Wynns have found out the truth, they know you aren't his blood!! You aren't his true son!! Ellie knows you are no Hudson!! She left you because she found out the truth!!" Her voice shrilled in the sitting room. Asher totally ignored her, no matter what she said, he would not react. Few years ago, when the scolding words of his mother became unbearable, he questioned his real identity. He secretly conducted a DNA test and the result was 99.9% match. If he hadn't done that years back, he would have been moved by their words. Gage Hudson was his real father, that he was certain of. "Let my father tell you the truth!! He knows the truth, you are not his biological son!! Ask him!! He's up there, ask him!!" Cruz roared but Asher didn't respond. If Gage Hudson, his father was in the house as Cruz claimed, they wouldn't dare make such utterances, but since his father was out on a business trip, they could spill nonsense through their lips. Once he was in his room, he loosened his tie, and slumped into the bed. Cruz's words played repeatedly in his head. "Father knows the truth!!" Wasn't Cruz afraid he would tell their father? Evidently, there was no single truth in their utterances. He shook his head to dispel the thought, but the words kept repeating in his head. He rose from the bed, then paced round the room. Does it mean he wasn't the true son of Gage Hudson? Was that why his mother never showed him love for once? But the DNA results were positive. He wagged his head to dispel his negative thoughts, but the more he tried, the more he was disturbed. He quickly freshened up then laid on the bed. He needed rest especially after the previous nights incident but when he shut his eyes, sleep had flee from him. "Father knows the truth?" He muttered. He recalled the sincerity in their voices, they spoke with absolute certainty. Cruz respected their father and wouldn't speak ill of him or lie against him. They said Ellie knew the truth, the Wynn's knew the truth, was that the reason for their sudden change of attitude towards him? Was that why Isabella Wynn said those words to him? She called him a nobody. Was he really not a Hudson? Hours later, he was not close to falling asleep. He got out of bed, made his way to the closet and took out a file, he opened it and took out a document. He stared at the document intently, then his gaze fell on the 99.9% match written on the document. He took out another, scanned it and his brows furrowed. He carried out DNA match test in three health facilities and they were positive. He returned the documents to the file then the file back to the closet. He narrowed his eyes and his thought became muddled. Slowly he returned to the bed, about to sit but briskly stood up. Quickly, he left the room, headed to the rear of the house, stood in the garden, his gaze in the sky. He stood there for a long time, then returned into the house. Rather than heading to his bedroom, he turned left and followed the long corridor. Perhaps if he walked around for a while, he might feel sleepy. As he approached the end of the corridor, he froze. His father's study was slightly opened and lightened. His heart began to race in his chest when he realized, Cruz might not be lying when he said their father was in. Hurriedly, he walk to the door and knocked lightly. "Come in," it was Gage Hudson's voice. The moment Asher heard his father's voice, he became locked in a momentarily paralysis. Cruz knew their father was in yet made such bold claim!! "Father knows the truth!!" The word had registered in his head and couldn't be erase it. His eyelids blinked repeatedly and his hands holding the door knob trembled slightly. His muscles tensed and his stomach twitched with nervous energy when he thought their claims might be true. Quietly, he pushed the door opened and went in.
