*Malik*
The night air is alive with the sounds of waves crashing against the shore and laughter rising from the beachside bars as we walk hand in hand back to the resort. Charlie’s fingers weave through mine, a connection that feels both exhilarating and comforting. The moonlight dances on the water, illuminating her face and bringing out her unique beauty. I can’t help but steal glances at her as we stroll along the beach.
“So, Malik,” she begins, her voice playful yet curious, “tell me more about your country. I feel like there’s so much I don’t know, like why the prince decided to do this… inviting all us women I mean.”
I chuckle, enjoying the way her eyes sparkle with interest. “There’s definitely a lot to share. This little country has a rich history, one that’s shaped by its kings and the choices they’ve made over the years.” I pause, looking out at the horizon, where stars dot the sky like diamonds. “The old King and his father before him were focused on making our country prosperous as it used to be very poor. They encouraged people to work harder, to have fewer children, thinking it would lead to a stronger economy. At first, it did. We became rich, but there was a price.”
She tilts her head, intrigued. “What kind of price?”
I take a deep breath, choosing my words carefully. “Most families only had one kids, so they wanted sons, as they could help with work and carry on the family name. It’s an old mentality, one that’s hard to change, which was made worse by new technology and the country’s wealth. As a result, the number of first girls and then young women dwindled. Now, the current King is trying to reverse that trend. He recognizes that we need women in our society to ensure balance and growth. That’s why the prince invited women from all over to come here… because we need new blood.”
Charlie raises an eyebrow, her expression shifting to one of concern. “But what about men like you? What’s your place in all of this? I mean it is only wealthy men at the resort.”
I laugh softly, shaking my head. “The Prince probably doesn’t think women want to move to a small country far away unless they’re seeking a better life than what they have at home. He wants to attract them with the allure of opportunity, hoping they’ll find a home here. But there’s more to it than that. It’s about connection, about creating a future together.”
She nods thoughtfully, and I can see the wheels turning in her mind. “It’s fascinating, really. I never thought about it like that. I mean, I came here for a vacation, not to find a man honestly.”
I grin, feeling a warmth spread through me. “It’s a strange situation, isn’t it? But I’m glad you’re here. It’s nice to share this with someone who’s genuinely interested.”
As we walk further down the beach, I can feel the anticipation building between us. The waves lap at our feet, cool and inviting, and I can’t help but marvel at how easy it is to talk to her. She has a way of making everything feel significant, like we’re part of a story larger than ourselves.
“So, what do you think of the crown Prince?” she asks, her eyes dancing with mischief. “Is he as handsome and charming as I imagine?”
I chuckle again, my heart racing at the thought of revealing my true identity, but it is not the time yet. “He has his moments,” I reply, teasingly. “But I think he’s more focused on the future of our country than on charm.”
“Fair enough,” she says, and then, with a playful nudge, “but what about you? You’re not so bad yourself, you know.”
Her compliment sends a thrill down my spine, and I can’t help but smile. “Well, thank you, Charlie. I do my best.”
Finally, we reach the entrance of the resort, where the soft glow of lights welcomes us back. I can feel the energy between us crackling, and I know I want to savor every moment of this night.
“Can I ask you something?” I say, stopping just outside the doors. The palms sway gently behind us, the moon casting a silver sheen over everything.
“Of course,” she replies, her voice softening.
“Can I kiss you goodnight?” I ask, my heart suddenly pounding in my chest. The moment feels monumental, charged with the promise of what could be.
She blinks, her cheeks flushing with a rosy hue that makes her even more radiant. “Yes,” she breathes, a smile breaking out on her face. “I’d like that.”
Slowly, I lean in, closing the distance between us, and I feel her warmth envelop me. My heart races as our lips meet… soft, tentative at first, then growing bolder as the kiss deepens. It’s everything I imagined and more. I pour all my feelings into that moment, that connection, hoping she can feel the sincerity behind it.
When we finally pull away, I’m breathless, and the world around us fades into a blur. “Goodnight, Charlie,” I whisper, still caught in the enchantment of her presence.
“Goodnight, Malik,” she replies, her eyes sparkling with the same sense of wonder that fills my heart.
As she turns to walk inside, I can’t help but wonder what tomorrow will bring.
