"Alpha," Jenny called. She had gone to find him when she left Jasmine's room and she saw him on the balcony of one of the other rooms in the house. He was leaning on the railings.
"How is she?" Caleb asked without turning to look at jenny. His eyes were fixed on the vast area of land and trees surrounding the three-story building where he resided at the moment. Jenny moved forward, coming to stand beside him.
"It didn't work. She just passed out. I'm thinking we should double the dose since she has been inactive for a very long time." Jenny suggested but a disagreeing frown quickly appeared on Caleb's face.
"No. I want her intact. I don't know what will happen if you double it so, to be on the safe side, stick with the normal dose. We can't have two broken leaders." Said Caleb firmly, leaving no room for argument. Jenny let out a sigh but didn't utter any word of protest.
"You killed Anthony in front of her?" Jenny asked after a long pause.
"I couldn't help it. The bastard laid his hands on her." Irritation was evident in his tone when he answered.
Jenny turned to look at him and saw that his eyes were already bright gold. Her gaze quickly shifted to his hand and she Subtly widened her eyes.
"Caleb, your beast is–" She started when she noticed that his eyes had changed color and his hands were already shifting involuntarily.
"I know." Caleb cut her off. He closed his eyes to try to keep his beast In, but he knew he couldn't do that for long.
"Should I call Diana?" Jenny asked and Caleb's eyes snapped open. When he turned to face her, she took a step back.
He look feral and his face was frightening even for her. "No. I don't need her," Caleb growled.
"But –" Jenny started to protest, however, Caleb had already jumped over the railings of the balcony and landed smoothly on the ground, fully shifted into a massive black lycan.
"Wait, Where are you going? Let me come with you." Jenny mind-linked Caleb since they couldn't communicate with words of mouth anymore because he has shifted, but Caleb's loud growl shut her up instantly.
"Stop worrying about me. Go take care of my mate." And with that, the black lycan disappeared into the night.
Jenny frowned. "You worry about everyone, but you don't want anyone to worry about you." She muttered to herself.
Turning around she walked out of the bedroom. She met Maxwell standing outside the door with a worried expression on his face.
Maxwell is the leader of Caleb's Warriors who has pledged their allegiance and sworn their loyalty to him ever since he returned to Sorenia.
Jenny raised an eyebrow in question when she saw his expression.
"Is the alpha alright? What happened?" He asked at once, making Jenny breathe out in relief. She had thought something was wrong, but now she understood why he had that look. Caleb's last growl must have turned them alert as they can also feel his intense emotions.
"He shifted again and ran into the forest," Jenny explained. Maxwell's eyes stretched wide for a moment before a frown made its way to his face.
"Into the forest? What happened to having Diana help him?" he asked, perplexed.
Jenny closed the door behind her before responding to his question. He doesn't want Diana. His mate is here so he prefers to kill demons rather than accept help from Diana." Jenny said only to see his eyes widen the more.
"His mate? You mean our Luna is here?" He asked, excitement dancing in his eyes.
"Yes, and that is why –"
"Can I see her?" Maxwell cuts in while Jenny was still speaking.
"Yes, if you are ready to meet your ancestors." She deadpanned and Maxwell's smile died down.
"Come on, Jenny. Just a peek. He won't know." Maxwell tried to persuade her, but she just stared at him giving him a look of disbelief.
This warrior in front of her is the strongest lycan she had seen so far apart from herself and Caleb yet he is here acting like a child.
Jenny shook her head and started walking in the opposite direction, and he followed. "I'm not going to test an angry and feral Caleb because of your curiosity, Maxwell. I still love my head and still want it to remain on my shoulder." She said while still walking.
She noticed some warriors standing at the corner of the corridor, waiting for a word of command from Maxwell. "Put your men at ease, Maxwell. There is no cause for alarm. At least for now." She added before she left the corridor.
Jenny went back to the room where she had left Jasmine. She was still sleeping soundly. Jenny let out a loud sigh and sat on the single sofa in the room. "Please respond quickly, Jasmine." She whispered before she threw her head back and close her eyes.
Jenny's eyes snapped open a few hours later when she heard the click of the lock. She was ready to shift but stopped when Caleb enters the room. She frowned when she took in his appearance. He was fully in his human form, but his eyes were still bright gold instead of blue. His hands, face, and clothes were stained with blood.
"Alpha." She lowered her head in submission. Though she was close enough to call him by his name, she knew when not to be familiar with him. And now was one of those times she knew she shouldn't joke with or provoke him.
Caleb looked at her for a while before his gaze shifted to the person on the bed.
"Leave." He ordered and Jenny walked out of the room with creased brows. Caleb's eyes were still gold which means his beast was still prowling around the edge. She knew he wouldn't hurt Jasmine since she is his mate, but still, she couldn't help getting worried.
Caleb went straight to the bathroom to wash off the blood on his body. As the cold water poured down on his body, he closed his eyes again trying to rein in his beast, but he was unsuccessful.
He ran his hand through his thick black hair in frustration and turned the shower off. Stepping out of the bathroom with only a towel tied around his waist, he climbed into the bed and lay down beside Jasmine.
