Chapter 2

2I don’t know how long I was asleep, but I felt the car come to a stop and I set up the best I could to look around. Tabitha handed me a bottle of water and I quickly downed it. A door opened in front of our car and my mom stepped out of it. We were in front of a hotel. Mom must have gotten us a room, so we could rest and clean up. She quickly came running up to the car and yanked my door open. I smiled at her as I unbuckled and did my best to step out without the blanket falling off. Tabitha was in front of me within seconds and scooping me up. It was a little humiliating. I was the older twin by three minutes. I should be carrying her around. I tried to protest but she wouldn’t listen. She always did have an issue with listening to me and doing what I told her to. Actually, I don’t think I was the only one who had a problem out of her. We stepped into the room and mom shut and locked the door. Tabitha sat me down on the end of the bed and made her way to the bathroom. I could hear the shower come on. My body started to shiver in anticipation of actually having a shower. My mom stepped in front of me and hugged me. She had tears running down her face. I’ve missed this woman. I have always been close to my mother, we both had. She’s always been more of an older sibling to us then a mother. Well, of course unless we were in trouble then the crazy came out of her. She wasted no time at all helping me up and getting me to the bathroom where she pulled the blanket away from me. I heard her gasp but when I looked at her she had a strained smile on her face. She never was good at hiding her facial expressions. “I know Mom, it’s a lot worse than it looks. I just need some sleep and some food, and I’ll be good to go.” I told her. “I’ll go get food while you shower.” She said. She left the bathroom. Before she even left the room, I could hear her sniffling. Great, now my mother was crying. “Come on Leah, get in and I’ll help you wash your hair.” Tabitha said. I nodded and stepped in the tub. Tabitha grabbed a cup and started getting my hair wet. I reached up and stilled her hand then said, “Thank you Tabitha for coming for me. I should have listened to you about him.” “Leah, it’s okay. I know you liked him and he was a really nice guy in the beginning. You don’t need to thank me, you’re my sister and I’ll always come for you. I love you.” She said. “I love you to.” I whispered. I let her help clean me up, washing my hair and my back. It felt good being clean and being able to brush my teeth. It was even better when my mom walked in with two bags full of hamburgers and French fries from the local burger shack. I have never eaten so much food before in my life, but I devoured every bit of three burgers and down two sodas before I finally laid down and passed out. I woke to Tabitha shaking me sometime later. Sitting up, I saw that her and my mother had packed up all our clothes and toiletries. “We have to go Leah. I saw Shawn driving around the hotel. I think he recognized moms car.” Tabitha whispered. I was instantly awake and standing up. I grabbed the blanket I had been wrapped up in and we made our way to the door. I was already feeling a hundred times better, thankfully. Tabitha looked out and made sure nobody was around. When she knew it was clear we sprinted to the car. Mom ran to hers and they wasted no time starting them and quickly drove away. “I can’t believe we are running from Shawn. I mean, we’re shifters. Why don’t we just kill him and get it over with?” I asked. “Because, we can’t take the chance that someone would figure it out or see us do it.” Tabitha said “Let’s lure him to a deserted place and then kill him. We could just let his body rot out there until the animals eat him.” I responded “You know we can’t Leah. Don’t worry though we’ll get far enough away from him that we won’t have to worry anymore. Look I have some money set aside and I know you do to. We can buy a small shop somewhere and open a boutique up. What do you think?” She asked. “Where are we going to open something like that up at?” I asked. “I don’t know. How about you open that map up in the glove box and we’ll just pick a place.” I said. “What? You’re crazy.” I said, chuckling at her. “I’m serious. Just close your eyes and place your finger somewhere and that’s where we will go.” She suggested. I shrugged, closed my eyes and spun my hand around in a circle for a minute before I placed my finger down on the map. Opening my eyes, I looked to see where we were going to go. “I landed on Breckenridge Colorado.” I told her “Great! We’ll pull over and figure out where we are and how long it will take us to get there.” She said. I just shook my head and laughed. I think my family have lost their minds. We pulled over a few minutes later and got out. Mom came over quickly, worry on her face until she saw the map Tabitha carried. We explained our plan and mapped out our destination. I was finding myself more and more excited at the prospect of us just ending up in a random place and starting our lives over again. It was an adventure, one I think will be the best one we’ll ever have in our lives.
