Chapter 1
1I
pulled the chains that were cuffed to my wrist with no luck. They wouldn’t break no matter how hard I tried. I was filthy, naked, hungry, and dying of thirst. My wrist ached from the cuffs rubbing them raw. I was so pissed off but had the lack of energy to scream and rant anymore. Shawn was a complete asshole and I should have seen this coming a hell of a lot sooner. If I had I wouldn’t be chained to some filthy ass bed in his damn basement.
I tried to shift over to my right side but couldn’t get comfortable that way either. I was starting to get bed sores on my ass cheeks and hips. I know I have been down here for a few weeks now but how many weeks exactly I wasn’t sure. There were no windows for me to even get the slightest peek of daylight. I could feel the effects of not having sun on my skin taking its toll. I was going to be pasty white when I got out of this place.
There was a loud thump above me. A few minutes went by and then there was a scraping sound. I knew that sound. It meant Shawn was home from where ever the hell he had run off to. My wolf inside my chest growled in menace. She hated Shawn and I can’t say I blame her. I hated him myself. I think the hate she has for him though runs a hell of a lot deeper than mine does. I’ve known for a while now that he has been stuffing her in a cage that was barely big enough for a normal size dog and he’s been tasering her and abusing her in any way he could.
It took me a while to figure it out. I was ashamed that it had but I had also figured out that he had been drugging me before I shifted back to human. Whatever drug he used kept my wolf suppressed inside of me and my mind fuzzy of the events that had been taking place. Now that I know, I hated myself for allowing that to happen to her and myself. She didn’t blame me I knew that but still we protect each other and that’s not what has been happening here.
I heard footsteps hitting the floor with each step as he made his way to the basement steps. I waited, holding my breath that he would just keep going. He didn’t, he stopped at the door but didn’t unlock it. I waited in the dark, damp basement and the silence, praying he would just go away and not come down here. I don’t know if I could stomach him forcing me to have s*x with him anymore.
I heard the lock click, then the next one. I could feel my hope falling away and despair replacing it. The door opened, and light shone through for just a few seconds. Then he was shutting it again and coming down the steps. Everything about this man bothered me. The way he breathed, talked, walked, snorted when he laughed and especially the way he tried to kiss me when he was forcing his way into my body.
I could already feel the bile rising in my throat. I swallowed it back several times, forcing myself not to vomit. It would do me no good to throw up, I would just have to lay in it and he would scream and hit me. I was completely defenseless against him like this and it sucked so bad. Shawn came to a stop in front of me, then walked around the side of the bed.
He ran his index finger along my leg and all the way up my stomach to my n****e. He pinched and plucked the hard bud and then smiled at me. I could smell the alcohol on him and he wasn’t even close to my face, gag. When he cupped my other breast with his hand and started to knead it I knew what was about to happen and I shut my mind off from it. Going to the happy place I had found inside myself.
Shawn started to undress himself. Throwing his clothes off to the side of the room. When he was completely naked he crawled on top of me and forced my legs apart as he settled his weight on me. He rubbed his nose up my neck and to my jaw, then pressed feather like kisses along my jaw and to my mouth. I turned my head away from the man and tried not to inhale his rancid breath.
His hand traveled from my breast down my stomach and then between my legs, where he started to stroke me. He wanted me wet and ready for him, but I was so disgusted by the man it wasn’t going to happen. He growled in frustration as my body closed up tight and wasn’t going to budge for him to make his way in. He sat up and looked down at me, giving me a hate filled look.
“You used to like my kisses and the way I touched you. What the f**k is your problem now?” He asked.
“You are my problem Shawn. I hate you. You disgust me and if it wasn’t for the fact that I knew you would leave me here laying in my own vomit I would have puked all over you the minute you came down here and ran your nasty f*****g finger up my leg.” I responded.
He jumped off me and then reached down, grabbing my jaw in a brutal hold with his hand. My wolf growled deep in my chest. He smiled at me and then released my face. I pulled on the chains again. I just needed a fraction of give on these chains and I would wrap them around his skinny little neck.
“I see your wolf isn’t too happy with me.” He smirked
“f**k you!” I yelled.
Shawn laughed as he made his way over to his pants and pulled his cell phone out of his pocket. The screen was lighting up and he looked down at the display to see who was calling him. His laughter quickly died, and anger replaced it. Sighing, he answered the phone, “What?” No, I told you I wasn’t bringing the girl. She is mine.”
Shawn turned and walked up the stairs and out of the basement. I sighed in relief and listened to see if I could hear any more of his conversation. I could hear mumbling and footsteps pacing back and forth on the floor above me but that was it. I wish I knew who the hell he was talking to and I was assuming the girl was me.
The front door slammed suddenly and then I could hear a faint screeching of tires as he peeled out of his driveway. I couldn’t help but hope he was one of those people you hear on the news. The ones that wreck their car and die on impact. I would gladly stay down here and die of starvation if that was the reason for it. I know that was horrible of me and I shouldn’t wish that on anybody, but I hated that man to the depths of my soul.
The front door creaked open again but this time I heard it shut softly. I listened to see if I could hear any footsteps on the floor above, but it was silent. I was just at the point of considering my imagination getting away from me when the door to the basement opened and the light shown down from the top. I held my breath, waiting to see who it was. I knew it couldn’t be Shawn because he has never walked that quietly before.
A slim shadow started down the steps and I had a sudden panic attack thinking it could be some other pervert or serial killer coming down. The first leg came into view, then the second. A body followed shortly after and then my sisters face. The same face as mine. I cried out in relief at seeing my twin sister making her way down the steps and towards me. When she realized it was me on the bed she broke into a run.
“Leah, oh my god I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Tabitha said.
I couldn’t even answer her right away, I was so emotional and crying like a baby. She tugged at my chains trying to break them, but it was no use. Whatever that metal was made of we damn sure couldn’t break it.
I gasped and pointed to the small desk in the corner, “The-the key is in that drawer.”
She turned and ran over to it, yanking the drawer out and pulling everything out until she found the key. Running back over to me, she grabbed one of the chains and pulled my wrist up, so she could see where the key hole was. She unlocked the cuff and slowly peeled it away from my wrist. The dry blood and made the damn thing stick to me. She quickly went to the second and did the same.
She helped me roll over and stand. My legs gave out on me before I could take even one step. I was so weak. Tabitha quickly picked me up and carried me up the stairs. I couldn’t stop crying. I squeezed her neck and held onto her with a death grip. She tried to sooth me, but it wasn’t working. We made it to the top of the stairs finally and she walked down the long hallway. She stopped at a door and opened it to look inside. It was a linen closet thankfully and she quickly reached in and covered me the best she could with a blanket before me finished making our way outside.
She had parked her car a block away and it was almost impossible to stay in the shadows as we made our way to it. Tabitha had to carry me the entire way. The weakness from malnourishment and being dehydrated was starting to get to me. It didn’t seem to bother her though. She hustled along like I weighed no more than a feather. I knew I had lost weight, but had I really lost that much?
We finally got to her car and she quickly hit the unlock button on her key fob. Her lights flashed on and the doors unlocked, leaving the interior of the car lit up from the overhead lights. I reached down and grabbed the door handle to open it. She kicked it the rest of the way open and sat me down inside. Buckling me up, she grabbed a blanket from the back and covered me with it for extra warmth, then jogged around to the other side and got in. She didn’t waste time as she jumped in and pushed the start button. She floored the gas pedal and we shot off like a rocket in her Dodge Challenger.
I always did love her car. I drove it every chance I got. She sped past the house I was held prisoner in. The front door had been left open, lights on. Shawn will be so pissed when he shows back up at home. Tabitha grabbed the phone in her middle console and dialed a number. I watched her as she waited for the caller to answer. A horn honked to my right and I quickly looked in the direction it came from. Lights flashed briefly in my eyes and then they were gone.
“Tabitha don’t kill us. You just rescued me. I would like to make it home.” I said.
“You’re not going back home. We’re leaving this town and everybody in it.” She said.
“What about mom?” I asked.
Tabitha looked at me and rolled her eyes. She hit the end button on her phone and dialed the number again. I got a glimpse of the contact and realized she was calling our mother. Tabitha cut another right turn without a blinker signal and I held my breath praying we made it to where ever she was taking us.
“Mom get your stuff together and packed. We have to leave town and now. I found Leah and I have her with me. That son of a b***h had her chained to a filthy ass bed in his damn basement.” Tabitha exclaimed.
I watched her for a moment. I knew what she was thinking. She thought he would have someone following us. He wouldn’t though, he didn’t believe anybody would be able to figure out where he was living or what kind of person he was. Tabitha knew though. That girl knew things before anybody else would. It was almost like an instinct in her. She was a brilliant girl and we always teased that she got all the brains in the womb and I got the left overs.
She hung up with mom and cranked the heat on for me when she realized I was shivering. She looked all around us one more time and then slowed the car down and went the normal speed limit. I could tell she didn’t know what to say to me and I didn’t blame her. I wouldn’t know what to say to me either. I closed my eyes and rested my head against the door. The rocking of the car and the heat made me fall asleep within seconds.
