Evelyn’s POV I watched as he ascended the spiral stairs that led to the corridor of rooms above. It was clear from his facial expression that I had spiked a nerve. I didn't know if I was to feel sorry for spoiling his mood so early in the morning or to be happy that I had guessed correctly what his line of work was. At least I had something to tell Charlie if I was to see him. I realized I had lost my appetite for the meal, so I stood up, picking my small purse and heading out.
