All she knew was darkness. Death itself was her comfort. He was cold and hard but she was a puzzle he wanted to solve. He spent years looking for her but she looked at him as a stranger. Gone was the girl he knew and in her place a ghost of death.

Chapter One
It is funny the things that you believe will happen and the choices you may second guess. Here I sit surrounded by people all watching the four of us. The suspense and tension are almost suffocating. You would think it would be more fear or anxiety as our lovely host made a show of putting the bullet in then shutting it and spinning the cylinder before placing said gun between us. The air was thick, my skin sticky from sweat and dirt and a good amount of dried up blood. I could hear our host and my fellow player heatedly talking. Most likely about how I shouldn’t do this. I learnt early, never let them get to you. So with no hesitation I grabbed the gun, placed the cool metal to my temple, kept eye contact with my host his grey eyes so cold like steel, exhaled slowly and pulled the trigger. Click Nothing. Well, that was somewhat disappointing. I knew they were talking to me, I felt as he ran his tongue along my neck just as, yet again it was my turn to pull the trigger. I didn’t say anything, I just pulled the trigger and … Click I knew my lack of response was starting to become frustrating to my rather touchy host and entertaining to the crowd as I remained emotionless while passing the gun between shots. Eventually Host man pulled me by my hair and this time held a knife to my neck, but I didn’t flinch. I just stretched my hand out and grabbed the gun for my turn. I knew from the laughs that this clearly was the kill shot, the energy in the room had changed. It was one of those rare moments that I knew I wasn’t going to lock away. Without a thought I held the gun, aimed and… BANG! “Holy hell, she killed him!” “That was not how this was meant to go.” “She cheated!” Mr Host must have said something as I was then being dragged up to his office. Hard dark wood, that was the only way to describe it. The men who dragged me up here were stood outside and Mr Host came in. He sat on the couch to the side of the room and said “The Boss will be here soon. Not sure what he will do with you.” “Not had someone break the rules before” I mutter under my breath. Before anything else could be said the doors were pushed open and in walked a man who needed no introduction, his presence screamed danger and power, you could almost see the darkness surrounding him. I dare not look at him long, I may not care about possibly dying but I was not about to let his energy suffocate me. So, as he sat in his chair; which let us be honest was basically the king sitting on his throne, and him going to address the lowly creature in his mind that had been misbehaving by ruining the guard’s game in the dungeon. It wasn’t until I heard Mr Host mutter “unbelievable” and Mr Dark laugh that I realised I said that out loud. Oops. I started scratching at my hands it was the only tick I had, it was a comfort more than anything. Mr Dark turned to Mr Host and instructed he leave us before he then walked around to the front of his desk and leaned against it. I felt more than heard him say “So Kitten care to tell me why I was called away from my enjoyable evening to be here with you?” I turned in his direction and with not a crumb of emotion in my voice I say “I handle it better than the other guy, what I did was only mercy, we agreed and I followed through.” I could tell from how he moved that I had caught his attention with what I had said. Here is the thing though, what I said was true. The guy I shot had begged numerous times to kill him but the guards never did, he couldn’t handle what happened to us down in the lock up. He was a gentle soul, only good at caring for the women that the guards hurt just like I did, problem was I was accustomed to it. I hid when they would come at night so that they wouldn’t try me and I fought if they did try it. Then the raid happened and we were handed over to this group. We had hidden and only a few of us had survived. The women had been taken leaving me with him when they went to take him out the room and leave me he tried to be the hero which led to us playing that game. I saw the fear in his eyes and knew he wouldn’t handle seeing me shoot myself so I shot him. Now he is at least at peace and would be with his family in some way. “Kitten I just asked you a question, I don’t like to repeat myself. Why did you shoot him and the truth, did he hurt you?” I laughed at that a humourless laugh but a laugh nonetheless. “No Sir, he wouldn’t have coped watching me die.” “Yet you would handle seeing him die and more to the point be the one to kill him?” “I didn’t kill him, I sent him home. He can see his family now. What are you going to do with me Sir? “ Mr Dark looked at me for what felt like hours, it was clear he wasn’t sure what to do with me. In my mind I am dead already, I may have a pulse but I have been in the darkness of my life so long now that I don’t expect anything else. With that said I look at the man in front of me, making sure to not look at his eyes “are you going to kill me then sir?” I see from my lowered gaze he smirks at what I “tell me Kitten, do I scare you?” “You should Sir.” “Let me look at you.” With that he lifts my face up towards him but I do my best to not look him in the eye. “Look at me Kitten, let me see your eyes.” My eyes snap to his instantly, in the next breath I hear him gasp as I look at his cold cerulean eyes. He moves his hand so that I am forced to stay looking at him as he says “I won’t be killing you” then a few moments later he says “I will be keeping you.” He then takes his hand away from me and types on his phone. Some of I am guessing his men come in and take me by my arms escorting me out. Survival kicks in and I try to get myself free, I manage to kick the one man in his groin causing him to let go of my arm, I then try to punch the other man but he grabs my hand, I am not sure what exactly happened but I went from that to having the guy smack my face hard into the stone wall a few times before my vision got all dotty and disorientated. I then remember feeling weightless and then being placed somewhere.
