HOLDING EYES WITH THE BETA

Chapter 2 Bianca's pov I observed my surroundings. The robe and everything around me made it clear where I was, but why? Then it hit me: the image of me carrying a fruit basket for the park's committee to the border, when I was knocked down. Gasping, I touched my head to check for any wounds, then my heart, where I had been struck with an arrow. Thank the Moon Goddess, it was a slate without ash; otherwise, I could have died. I attempted to sit up, but the pain in my chest made me wince. Was it another werewolf who wasn’t an omega? They could have healed. “Struggling that much won’t help you,” Tabitha said as she walked in. I looked at her—her white eyes giving off such an eerie vibe. “Rest more to regain your energy... then you can leave,” she added. I nodded and lay back down. Go back to where I was almost killed? I had waited 22 years to find my mate… my rescuer, only to be blessed with a lycan who would obviously reject me. “You think too much, little omega,” she said. I turned my face to her as she crouched down, rubbing a salve on my exposed chest. “His Highness, the lycan, said you’ll move into the castle.” My ears perked up at the mention of living in the castle. “I’m in no position to tell you anything... the beta will give you clearer information. For now, rest and prepare yourself for tomorrow’s journey to the castle,” she said, standing up and leaving. Castle?!!! Did that ever cross my mind? The lycan’s abode… the royal palace! Shock was a severe understatement for what I felt right now... Is the lycan going to accept me or just keep me under his scrutinizing gaze? Perhaps keep me as his s*x toy? Oh my! No!! I can’t!! I looked around, and the thought of running crossed my mind. Maybe I could… I should run. If he doesn’t want me as his mate, he certainly shouldn’t make me his s*x toy! I struggled to stand from the bed I was lying on. I looked through the path Tabitha had taken to make sure she wasn’t around. I hoped those white eyes of hers weren’t monitoring me in any way. Even if they were, she shouldn’t try to stop me. I held my chest as a sharp pain struck me there. Slowly, I began limping to the door. It felt like an easy escape. I could feel Tabitha’s eyes on me, shaking her head, but still, I refused to turn. I made it outside but halted in my tracks. There was the beta—Ric—standing outside the hut with his sword right below his waist, exactly where it should be. In that instant, I regretted my move. He stared at me with cold eyes, and I wondered if he inherited those traits from the lycan himself. His gaze was just like his. “Such a pleasant way of meeting the park’s Luna, I suppose?” I snickered. Was that supposed to be an insult? “Same here, Beta Ric,” I said. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t hold his gaze, but wherever this courage was coming from, it had better cease. “I like that you’re holding up to your name, staring right back at me.” I dropped my gaze, sensing his movement as he walked right up to my face. “The King... the lycan... has ordered for you to live in the castle.” I looked up at him. That information wasn’t new, but I wanted to know why he had changed his mind. Was he going to claim me as his mate? What might he want from me? I felt Ric’s gaze burn into me, but I refused to look at him. I kept my face down—solidly. “He wants nothing from you, omega... but you’ll do yourself a favor.” “Favor?!!!” “Yes, favor.” Did I forget? Their ears were as sharp as anything. The tiniest whisper would be heard from a distance. “The lycan has given you the chance to live in the palace and prove your worth... make him know what you’re capable of as the Lunaria Luna.” I gaped. Lunaria Park... The lycan was giving me a chance... a chance to prove my worth, to show what I’m capable of. I might be an omega, but I know I can’t be trampled on. But to prove something to a lycan?! Does he trust me that much, or perhaps he was just looking for an excuse to reject me? If the latter is true, then I’ll prove him wrong. I’ll prove to him that I’m worthy of being the Lunaria Luna and also play the mate role. I’ll stun him, but... “No buts, Bianca. We can do it!” my little wolf screamed in my head. “Yes, we can!” I stared at Ric, who was either ogling me or glaring daggers at me. Okay, what’s that? Well, whatever. If I’m in on this, then this guy’s glare has got to cease. His gaze turned questioning. “It’s not an option. You’ll come with me now.” “You don’t command your Luna.”
