Chapter 13
Bianca's pov
I stirred in my sleep.
The bed was too comfortable to wake from.
You could say it was greediness, because I knew very well where I was.
I knew I was in the lycan's chamber, on his bed, sleeping off like there was no tomorrow.
I don't know if it was the softness and coziness of the bed or the sweet scent of the lycan that lingered in every corner of the room.
Whichever it was...
It didn't deserve an early wakening.
I should sleep more, inhale the sweet scent of my mate, and enjoy the comfort of his bed.
I heard footsteps waltz into the room, and I pretended to be in a deep sleep.
I wasn’t ready to leave this bed—especially not for a goddamn exhausting training session.
"I can hear your faint breath," his voice filtered around the room like an echo, bouncing back and forth.
I knew he caught me, but...
"Yeah, I did."
His steps got closer to the bed.
"I knew when you woke. I knew I should let you... maybe sleep a little more."
"But selfishness?" He pushed the blanket that was covering me away from my face.
The rays of the bright sun, accompanied by the cool morning breeze, spiraled onto my face, causing me to squint.
"I didn't know the little mate the moon goddess gave me was also—selfish," his deadpanned eyes locked into mine. It literally made me freeze.
I thought I saw his eyes smeared with amusement. Perhaps he'd let me sleep a little longer, but...
"Up and be ready for your training. I assigned Ric to teach you how to ride a horse and also..." He turned around, went to the dressing table, and picked up a watch—the grandest in the Wolf’s time—and strapped it onto his wrist.
I stared at him, admiring his outfit, his composure, and the oozing power of a king.
To top it all off, he was a handsome king who could have any woman he deemed fit.
Who could have as many concubines as he wanted and would never fade—because he is him.
I watched him walk back to me, now standing at the foot of the bed.
"Ric will teach you the rules of being a Luna." My jaw tensed up at the word Luna.
I heard him chuckle.
"Like I said before, you’ll get the entitlement and many more—when you figure out the test I gave you," he said, and my mood dropped.
He brought his hand out of his pant pocket and gave me an unreadable stare.
I might have known him to give out a lot of stares, but this one was totally unfamiliar.
"Remember this, Bianca," this was his first time calling my name—
And gawd, it sounded f*****g sexy... I'd want him to call me that often.
"Your assignment is to figure out the test. I didn’t ask you to resolve it. I believe that’s a simple task. The moon goddess surely didn’t choose a dumb mate for me."
What was that?!
"I’m giving you this opportunity because I saw your potential."
"And lastly, I’d prefer you keep your thoughts to yourself. It’s deafening," he said and started leaving.
"Your training starts now!" With that, he left completely.
At first, it started off as a bit of humble talk... then a slight insult... and now what?!
I'm making him a bit proud?
Does he go around insulting people and still complimenting them?
Hmph.
My mind drifted to the test again.
The test?!
What could it be?!
Is it about me?
Or the palace?
Or even him?
Why can’t I get any clue?!
I think it’s about the Beta, Shirley's voice almost startled me.
Beta?! Wait—Beta?
Why do you say so? I asked, because he was the last person on my mind.
Yeah, he's been a bit off from what we discussed yesterday, and the fact he didn’t deny it got me completely confused.
Because I don’t like him, obviously... How dare he talk ill of our mate? Shirley's defensive mood flared.
Okay, I know what the Beta said, and honestly, Shirley, I’m not ready to look into it, I said, already tired of this saga.
But what if our mate gets hurt?
And what if our mate really is what the Beta said? I snapped back. We should think about the safety of the people. She went quiet immediately.
Listen, Shirley, I understand you—but we also ought to do the right thing.
What if this test is about me figuring out the king’s bad side?
What if he wants me to find out what he is and tell him... I gasped. It made sense now.
He could kill us, Shirley!!! I almost screamed out loud.
I need to get out. I have to leave before he comes back.
And the craziest part is—he can read my thoughts, unlike the Beta, who can’t anymore.
I can’t wrap my head around that. The most important thing right now is getting the hell out of here before he returns.
At least I should be prepared before I die.
I rose from the bed quickly. My clothes weren’t on me—just a thin robe.
Maybe he did it, or the maid. But right now, that’s beside the point.
I searched for the clothes I wore yesterday but couldn’t find them.
Oh, please don’t delay me now, I groaned. This can’t hold me back.
Leaving in just this would not only bring stares but also gossip.
And right now, getting myself into unnecessary gossip in the palace is the last thing on my list.
"Searching for this?" a voice said from behind. I turned to find a maid—probably a new face, because I hadn’t seen her before.
I nodded and tried to take the clothes from her, but she raised them out of reach.
Okay? What’s that about?!
"Give it back, please," I said, my tone firm, trying to keep my cool. I didn’t want to come off badly to this new face.
"I’m sorry, my lady, but the king assigned me to get you a new dress." She brought out a bag she had been hiding behind her.
"This one is torn," she added when she sensed my hesitation.
Torn? How... Oh—maybe when I was being pursued by those rogues... those empty-headed rogues.
With nothing else in mind, I snatched the bag from her, fumbled into it, and pulled out the dress. It was beautiful on me—I wouldn’t deny that.
"You look beautiful, mi’lady." I had totally forgotten she was still there.
Time to go. "Listen, I’m not normally like this. You could ask Merr, if you probably know her, but I’m in a bit of a hurry... we could meet again later." With that, I rushed out of the king’s room to the wide balcony that led to the downstairs.
I rushed to the training ground and found only Jerry and some guards.
"Hi," I greeted him. He responded with a bow.
"Where’s the Beta?" I asked after scanning the area.
"He’s—"
"Seems you’re fond of being late," I heard his very annoying voice. Turning around, I saw his attire today was eye-catching.
It got me comparing him with the king.
Goodness, what’s wrong with me?
"Good morning, Beta," I bowed.
He scoffed.
Typical him. I rolled my eyes.
"You’re having a horse run. I believe we’re not using the Cinderella 'ride-the-horse' pattern," he said, and it got me wondering if he was okay, but...
Oh, my dress!!!
