Chapter 4 Carolina and the Conference room

Carolina POV

Trying to calm my heart rate down before heading to meet my team. Why would both Issac and Zane have this effect on me? They will be coming to the conference room to go over the final plans of the mission with me. I have to get myself under control and focus on the task at hand.

I realize that my team and I have our work cut out for us. We must go in under the radar, to see how many rogues are within the Moon pack territory.

Needing to come up with a strategy to keep the rogues from entering our pack lands, and to find out how they are getting access to the Moon pack. The higher ranking officials think that we have a traitor within our pack. Now that I have found that note, I too believe that there is a traitor amongst us.

We need a plan to make it over and back to Moon pack without being noticed by the rogues and with no one on my team having our wolves yet, this mission will be a challenge..

I walk into the conference room, looking at the four girls ( my friends) that have been on my team for a month. They should know the routine, check the comms and the cameras to make sure everything is working as it should be. Looking around I see that one of them had already pulled the maps out and are laying on the table.

“ Does the equipment work ok?” I threw them all.

They all look up at once, but Kris is the only one to answer, “ Yes, they are all in working condition. One question though, why do we have so many extras?”

“ We are going to have the other Alphas from the surrounding packs, and our future Alpha Zane, joining us. They will each need a set of comms, as for the cameras, we need eyes everywhere. I will need two of you to put the cameras up at the main hiking trail between the pack borders.”

“ I will take Carla and we will put the cameras up on the trail.” Beth states

Looking down at the map, pointing out two locations where the cameras should be.

“ I want them here on the east side and one on the northeast side, then in the forest I want one on the west side and one in the southwest side. This will give us all angles on the moon pack, and will cover us as we go in and come back out.”

“ Beth and Carla take East and North east cameras, and Melanie and Kris take the West and Southwest cameras.”

“ Everyone, make sure you have your comms, so Carolina can make sure they are working before we move to our next location.” Kris yells out.

“ Thanks Kris”

She nods as she is walking out the door, then turns. “ Hey are you ok?”

“No. but we can talk about it after the mission.”

Kris nodded and said “ We will get the information we need in a few hours.”

“I know.”

She nods and walks out the door, while they're gone I look over the maps trying to figure out why they appear to be different, and what would be the most efficient way into Moon pack without being noticed.

If the rumors were true, we may come up against a large number of rogues.

I am still staring at the same maps when Kris and Melanie hit me up on their comms. “ Boss, are we good?”

I looked down and saw where the camera was viewing. “ Yes, all good, great view on my side.”

“ We are on to our next site. Kris says over the comms.

“ Boss, are we good ? “ Came Beth this time.

Looking down and saying all clear, go to the next. This goes on for two more times before all four cameras are up and they are heading back.

They all returned together, as I am still looking over the maps that I have not moved. I look at the time and notice that it is 10:45, great, we leave in an hour and 15 minutes, letting out a groan, and I have not come up with a plan. I need to have a solid plan before everyone starts to show up.

Walking to the window overlooking the forest to clear my head. “ How about you all go grab something to eat, as I come up with a plan.”

They all nod their heads, as I take a few minutes to gather my thoughts. My phone starts to beep letting me know that I have a message.

“ Want me to bring you a coffee?” Texted Kris

“ Yeah, that would be great.” I replied back, as I was getting ready to put my phone back into my back pocket, a thought entered my mind.

I dialed the number waiting for my dad to answer.

“ Hey Princess, how’s the planning going?”

“ Dad, could you come down? I have hit a roadblock and would like your input.”

“ Yes, I will be bringing a few others with me. See you in a few”

“ Ok.” I answered my dad before he hung up.

Walking back over to the map that is still sitting on the table, I noticed something was off, with the map. Then it hits me that this map doesn't include the packhouse.

Why would we have a map of the territory that didn’t include the packhouse or the surrounding buildings? Deep in thought I didn’t hear the door open, and my father and others walking in, until my fathers voices brought me out of my thoughts.

“ I heard you could use this. “ he says as he smiles at me.

Looking up at him, I smile as I see the cup in his hands. “ Yes.”

That's when noticing, my heart rate has increased as I see that Issac, Kyle and my brother Fred have also entered the room without me realizing it.

My heart beats a little faster and my stomach has some weird feeling. Composing myself saying “ King, and Alpha Kyle “ I bowed my head out of respect for their positions.

“ Please no titles for me.” Kyle tells me with a smile.

“ That rings true for me as well.” Issac says then stops as he smiles and looks me in the eyes, it felt like he was looking into my soul. “ Carolina, I want to introduce you to my Beta Shawn, not sure if you would remember him.”

“ Yes, nice to see you again.” As I shake Shawn’s hand, as Shawn nods his head.

“ Ok, Princess, what’s going on?” My father asked, as he eyes the map on the table in front of me.

“ Dad, the map that one of my team members grabbed me, doesn’t show the packhouse or any of the surrounding buildings. It is a map of just the pack lands themselves.”

The look on my fathers face has me taken back. It was of pure shock but there was something else too.

“ Princess let me see.”

I stepped back away from the table where I laid the map down, and ran smack into a hard wall. My heart races as I feel the warmth of someone’s body, and I feel a pair of hands being laid on my shoulders.

The warm feeling I am getting and the way my heart is racing means that Issac is behind me.

Before I could react, and move away from him, Issac let out a small growl. Then I feel his warm breath on my ear, “ Carolina, don’t move, I can see right over you.” He whispers in my ear.

“ Princess, do you know who pulled this map out?”

“ No, it was already out when I got here. I can get my team back in here.“

“ That would be a good idea, and I am guessing you set the cameras up according to this map?”

“ Yes” I let my father know, as I pulled away from Issac, enough to pull my phone out of my back pocket, and sent a text telling my team to return to the conference room.

“ Beta Frank, what is this map of? “ Issac asked, as he walked up closer behind me.

“ Issac, this is a map of just the pack lands, the real maps should be in the desk drawer.

Knowing that I needed to put some space between Issac and myself, he was making me feel that I should not feel. I realized that my crush that I have had for him over the years, is still there.

I had thought I had outgrown them, but the way he made me feel when he had entered the room and when he was right behind me made my heart flutter, and my stomach do little flips.

“ I will grab them.”

“ Princess, I don’t think you need to grab them just yet, we need to find out who put this map out first.”

“ Dad, is something wrong?” I asked, as I feel like I had missed something.

“ Yes” he replies to me before turning to Issac, “ Issac, this map shows just the land, as if they were planning to build something else here.”

I watch as Issac looks at the map, and moves to my side, as he is looking at some numbers on the side of the map. “ These look numbers here are chordates for something.

I have to agree with you, someone is looking at the land for development. Has anyone approached you about selling the land here?”

“ No Alpha Pete would have said something to me if someone has, and no one has approached me about it.” my father replies back.

Just as my father replies, my team walks in. “ Hey, who pulled the map out? “ I asked them as they come into the room.

“ It was sitting on the table when I got here. “ Beth tells me.

“ Beth, did you see anyone in, or coming out of the room when you got here?” Issac asked

“ No” she responds

“ I think it would be best if we keep this between us for now, I would like to talk to Alpha Pete later about it. Let’s get the maps out and figure the best way for this mission to go without any problems.” my father tells everyone.

Catching Fred out of the corner of my eye, I see that he pulls out the actual maps that we should have had already out. He walks them over to us, and lays them out on the table.

“ Princess, I think your team can start getting ready.” my father states

“ Alright you heard your Beta, gear up, and be ready, we are leaving in 45 minutes.”

We all watch them bow their heads as they walk from the room, before anyone can say anything the door opens again, and Alpha Pete and Future Alpha Zane walk in, here goes my heart again.

The way that my heart was beating out of my chest, I am surprised that no one else can hear it.

I need to compose myself, before anyone can notice how much both Issac and Zane have affected me. Moving close to the table, and looking down at the map, I noticed where the lake is, the river that feeds into it, and an odd sight of red lines.

Needing to ask about the red lines, and not trusting my voice at this moment, I take a drink of my coffee, before I look at everyone and notice that they are all looking over at me.

Did I have something on my face, or did I miss someone saying something about the mission.

“ Ok, what did I miss?” I asked

“ Oh Princess, you didn’t miss a thing, but you seem to be thinking of something, what’s up?”

“ These red lines, do you know what they are?”

Everyone stops looking at me and down to the table, as I draw my finger on the red lines on the map.

“ Pete, they are the pack tunnels!” my father says with excitement in his voice.

“ What tunnels?” I asked surprised, just learning about the tunnels and I have lived here all my life.

“ As kids we used to play in the tunnels, then as we got older we would go from pack to pack for party’s and just to hang out with the other Alpha’s and Beta’s back in the day.” Alpha Pete says, as he smiles.

“ Dad, do you think these tunnels are still usable?”

“ They should be, but we haven’t been down there in years.” my dad replies.

“ What if I can go through the tunnels, which would keep me at least hidden, as I pass through the moon Pack’s pack lands. We may be able to get more information then if I were on land.” I tell him with excitement in my voice.

“ Dad, that would work, she would have cover of the tunnels, and I would be going with her, so that if danger were to hit, I can get her back here safely.” Fred says to our father.

“ I would like for some of my men to go in the tunnels with you, and with your other team members.” Issac tells me.

His voice sends shivers down my spine, and his eyes are looking into my eyes and it feels like he is looking into my soul. Tearing my eyes away from him, and turning to the others in the room, I noticed that Zane had his eyes also tuned to me.

As my eyes meet his, I have the same feeling as I did with Issac, his eyes looking deep into my soul.

Not trusting my voice at this point in time, I just nod my head as I turn my head away from everyone and look back to the map on the table.

“ Princess?” Zane calls out.

Looking over at him, remembering that as kids the boys all used to call me princess. I was the only girl that was allowed to hang out with them, all the way up to the day they all left for Alpha training.

“ If I heard correctly, from the mind link, we need to have a few of our own warriors to reposition your cameras. Going off the map that was here, could have placed the cameras in the incorrect place. Can you show us where you placed them?”

Nodding my head, I lean over the map and point to the four locations, then I watch as Kyle is walking out the door, before it closes he stops and turns back around, “ Carolina, be careful out there, I won't make it back until you are already out.” he tells me, then looks at Fred, “ Watch out for her.”

“ I will protect her.” Fred tells him as Kyle leaves. One thing about growing up with all of them, they all watch out for me.

“ Do you think that someone on my team could be against me? I asked the remaining males in the room.

“ Princess, we don’t know, that is why Alpha Pete and I decided that it would be wise to send Fred with you, and Issac wants Shawn to go as well.” my dad tells me.

Looking at both Shawn and my brother, “ You two must listen to what I tell you, with no discussion or disobedience.” I tell them with a stern voice.

“ Lina, you are in charge, we will follow your rules, right Shawn?” Fred states as Shawn nods his head.

“Good, now here is the plan. How about Fred, Shawn, Kris and I going through the tunnels, as Melanie goes with a few warriors to the northeast border, and another set of warriors with Carla, and Beth to go to the southwest end of the hiking trail.” I explain, now I finally feel at peace.

This is the first time I have felt peace while trying to plan this mission, yet something still was not sitting right with me, even as everyone agee’s to the plan at hand.
