Chapter 9 Hospital Part 1

POV : Zane

As I heard the shots and saw the flash of lights then the video feed and comms were all cut off. My heart sank to my stomach, while my stomach was twisting in knots. No amount of training could prepare any of us for this situation.

When I saw Carolina’s mother walk into my fathers office crying. I should have known then that something was off, she doesn’t usually cry over anything. I don’t recall ever having seen Katherine cry to be honest, and the way my mother came in and started to cry with her did not sit well with me or my wolf.

We couldn’t stop their tears, or the emotional turmoil that they are both in, as well as myself and my wolf.

” Go to Mate, Mate is hurt!” Ace kept saying.. “ Buddy we can’t, we have to wait for her to come out. We don’t know her exact location!”

“ Issac, is your wolf going crazy?” I mind linked him, I didn’t want to cause more stress.

“ Yes, Zeke says she is hurt! He is not happy with me, but we need to get everyone out of those tunnels. I keep telling him we don’t know her exact location. He is driving me crazy, we will need to both be ready for what's to come.”

Just then we all heard Beta Frank's cell phone ring, which had us all jump, the sound on the other end just intentionally intensified the situation. Fred sounded scared, and I knew at that point it definitely was Carolina that was hurt.

Listening to the conversation between Frank and Fred, then when Frank fell to his knees my heart just broke into a thousand pieces.

Frank and Katherine were both broken hearted, and nothing anyone could do or say could comfort them right now. They weren’t the only ones that were feeling this way, I just wanted to let the tears fall, but I knew it was best to hide my emotions, until I was alone with my mate.

Issac took Frank’s phone off speaker phone and placed it to his ear. Issac had opened the mind link to me so I could also hear the news at the same time as him.

We were told that our little princess was shot, not once but twice, and that we needed to get the doctors ready for her arrival.

Issac told Fred that we would be waiting outside of the gate for her, that made me feel better knowing she is on her way to the pack hospital. We would see her soon, my wolf wants to claim her as soon as she is within our sight.

We can’t do that until the night of the ball, so we must wait. Ace still will not calm himself down, hopefully after he sees her he might.

Issac motioned to me, then turned to ask my parents if we could speak to them out in the hallway. He wanted to fill my parents in on what was said over the phone, and if they could please take care of our mate’s parents, until they calmed down some.

I told my dad we will handle this, he needed to get her parents down to the hospital after they had calmed down, and asked if my mom could make sure someone grab her some clothes and anything else she would need.

My father knew the best way to handle this situation was to not let anyone know what had happened in the tunnels.

We didn’t want the pack to be aware that the danger is right outside of our borders, until we had talked with the mission team that went inside of the tunnels. We needed to make sure we had all the facts before we took it in front of the pack.

Walking with Issac, to the tunnels that would lead them to the hospital, I felt my stomach twist. Knowing that she will be brought out hurt and not knowing if she would be fine, was an odd feeling for me and my wolf.

“ Issac, we both know that no matter what the outcome is, we could never stop her from going inside those tunnels?”

“ Yeah, I know, but it doesn’t make this any easier. I just wish we were with her instead of our Beta’s.” he runs his hand through his hair.

“ I know, but we can’t tell her that we are her mates until the night of the ball. The only one that can reveal that information would be the moon goddess herself.” I run my hand down my face and behind my neck.

“ Zeke told me that the moon goddess called both him and Ace, and told them we were both her mates. I knew you weren’t lying when you also said she was yours. I just wanted you to know. “ Issac informed me.

Getting closer to the gate, my wolf and I could smell her scent, and started jumping up and down. Her scent has a calming feeling and it has washed over my entire body, comforting us. When we heard footsteps running towards our direction, she would be here soon.

I noticed that when Issac opened the gate to the tunnels, it opened with ease. It appears that people have been taking care of the maintenance on this gate. The grass around the gate was cut down, and you can see that a path has worn some of the grass down even further .

Someone has been using this tunnel for a little while. I know that I have never been in the tunnels, but my dad mentioned in the conference room, they used to use them to go to the palace and party with King Issac’s dad.

Fred is getting closer , I can hear his breathing that has become heavy. Standing behind Issac, as Fred comes into view, and hands Carolina off to him, I let out a growl and hear both himself and I saying Mate.

We both just claimed Carolina to our pack warriors that were around us.

I looked down at Carolina and saw the blood, as Issac said we need to get her help then we can sort this out. I agreed with him as we ran straight into the hospital where they already had a bed, nurses and a Doctor waiting for us. Issac placed Carolina down on the bed, and we followed where they took her to a room.

Following behind, I walked up to the side of the bed, when the Doctor told us we needed to leave. Issac and myself said that we were her mates and we were not leaving.

The doctor yelled again, asking us how Carolina would feel after we had seen her at her weakest point. I knew the doctor was right, they needed to work on her, and Carolina would be mad if we stood and watched them cut off her clothing.

Leaning over her, I placed a kiss on her forehead, and leaned down to her neck to smell her scent, placed another kiss on her cheek and told her that I loved her, then walked out the door.

Knowing this wait was going to be the hardest thing I have ever done.

I was happy to have kissed my mate's forehead before leaving her room, the strength it took to walk out was harder than anything I have ever faced in my life.

I have known Lina since the day she was born, and I fell in love with her shortly after that, when I found out that she was my mate I was more than pleased.

That was about 4 years ago when I turned 18, and knew that deep down, I would not be able to keep it to myself. I tried everything to avoid her when I was home.

Once outside of her room, I lean up against the wall and let myself slide down, my emotions and my wolf’s emotions are all over. I just need to hear that she will be ok, and that we can take her back to the pack house.

I heard Issac talking to Fred when I looked up to Issac I noticed that he had our princess’s blood still all over him.

“ Fred, has someone notified your parents yet?” Issac asked

“ Yes , they should be here soon with Alpha and Luna .” Fred replied.

“ Fred, are you hurt? “ I asked

“No, I have a few scratches but they will heal. Carolina’s thigh caught the bullet that should have hit me. My main focus was getting her help that I didn’t even notice, until I was thinking over the events.”

“Did Kris get out of the tunnel unharmed? I knew she was right behind me, but once we got out of the gate everything went a little crazy, with both you and Zane claiming Carolina.”

“ Yes, Kris got out of the tunnels, she was a few steps behind you.” stated Beta Shawn. He hands Issac the clothes that he asked for. “ Issac, once everything is settled here, can we talk?”

“ Yes Shawn, thank you for the change of clothes.” as he turned and was facing Fred. “ We can talk later about that Fred.” As he looked over to me “ is there a bathroom close by that I can wash up in?”

I looked up and noticed that Issac’s eyes reflect the same look that I assume mine do, lost, sadness, helplessness and love. I could not understand how both Issac and I could both be Carolina’s mates.

“ Yes, you can use the bathroom in the next room, we’ll make sure no one bothers you. If there are any changes in her condition, I will let you know.” I tell with tears in his eyes.

“ Thanks man, I will be back in a few minutes then we can talk.” Issac says.

Nodding my head and I watch him walk off. Still sitting on the floor waiting for someone to walk out of her room to tell us any news. This waiting was driving me over the edge, which left me with some man questions and anger that I could not keep down any longer.

Once everything is settled I need to have a talk with dad about the events today and if there is anything else that is going on, that I need to be made aware of. The questions keep coming and overwhelming my head, and heart.

Why would my dad send Lina on a mission, knowing she did not have her wolf yet?.. What has been going on around the pack since I was away? I have come back for holidays and never noticed an issue, things have always seemed to run smoothly.

Did my father not say anything so that I could make up my own mind? The academy has asked me to stay on as a trainer, but if my father needed me then why didn’t he ask me to come home?

So many questions that I need to ask my dad. My reason why I haven’t come home yet is because Lina, I knew if I brought girls home when I visited Lina would stay away. I could not trust myself not to give into my wolf ( Ace). Every time he smelled her he would go crazy, and wanted to mark her.

I know it was a dumb plan but it worked. I never told my best friends or my parents that I had known who my mate was, my dad figured it out, but I don’t know when.

I was so angry at my dad for letting Lina go into a dangerous situation, he knew that if she ran into danger she could not take down a group of rogues on her own. Why would he send her into a situation that she may not come back from?

When Issac came back out, he sat down beside me on the floor, “ Hey man, our mate is out of the tunnels and safe, and right now our main concern is for her to get better, until she does neither one of us will leave her side. She needs us both, even if she doesn’t know if yet.”

“ Thanks man, I know I love her already, and was scared that I was going to lose her before I could tell her.”

“ You're not alone on that! I still can’t believe she is my mate…. Sorry I meant our mate, she has always had my heart from the time I can remember.” Issac expresses

“ Where did everyone go?” Issac asked as he looked around.

“ Kyle went to get us some coffee, and sandwiches, Cole went up to the pack house with his Beta, and Carolina’s team were out in the lobby waiting for us to let them know when it would be ok to see Lina.” Fred replies.

Fred says “ I want to tell you that my parents are a mess before they get here, but in my heart I know Lina will be fine. My sister is strong and she is a fighter.”

“ I just wished she didn’t go on this mission.” I tell him with sadness in my voice. I could no longer hide my feelings.

“ Zane, she is the strongest female fighter we have, she knows how to plan out an attack and to get her team home safe. Even at 17, my sister is better than half the men in our pack that have been fighting for years.” Fred informed

“Can I ask how both you and Zane are both mated to my sister? You are not twins and I have only ever heard of twins having to share a mate.” Fred says confused.

“ I am not sure, it’s something we will have to figure out. “ Issac says as he looks over at me.

We could pass for brothers, twins even, to be honest, the only difference between us was our height, which was only an inch. I remember the first day at the Academy, many people would get us confused.

“ I think I can answer some of the reasons and questions.. “says Katherine.
