Aoife had an uncomfortable pain in her lower back that made her sleep fitfully. Unnervingly, she felt a crawling, tickling sensation on her inner thigh, and lightly slapped her leg, assuming it was a small, unwelcome insect, only to be fully alert when she realised her hand was wet. She reached under the bed, and retrieved the basket that Winnie had prepared for her, using the cloths to dry her skin, and praising her friend for her attentive nature. She was ready for this moment, but her heart was beating frantically. Gingerly, she went to the door of her cell, and called for Caius, who she knew Pepin had asked to watch over her. “Caius, tell Pepin the pup is on the way, it might be an hour or so yet,” She instructed him. He could hear the excitement as well as the fear in her voice. C
