CHAPTER TWO: THE WEDDING

1067 Words
After avoiding the man she was meant to marry by pretending she was sick, the wedding day finally arrived and Samantha felt sick to her stomach, after the day her father told her she was going to marry Donna's fiancée, Gina threw a fit and hit her blaming her for Donna running away, like she was the one who told her to run, she didn't even know Donna was getting married in the first place. She still hasn't seen the man Donna was marrying. Her father was still keeping that secret from her. He could be a seventy year old man with a pot belly for all she knows. After letting out an inaudible sigh, Samantha let the ladies whom her father employed to be her bridesmaid help her get ready for the wedding You're all set," one of the ladies said as she put on her veil, "You look beautiful, your husband won't be able to take his eyes off you. Yeah, thank you, Samantha said as she gave her a polite smile. Then, a few minutes later, her father walked in, his face devoid of emotions as he walked up to her. Excuse us, David said as the women walked out of the room, leaving David and Samantha alone in the room You know what you have to do, don't let him see your face until the vows have been said and it's time for you to kiss him her father explained and Samantha simply nodded causing a frown to form on David's face. Use your words when you're talking to me David said, his annoyance evident in his tone and eyes What do you expect me to say, father? Huh? I don't want to do this, I don't want to marry a man I don't love but you guys aren't giving me a choice Samantha snapped, then a few minutes later she realized what she has just done and dread washed over her as she watched her father's expression turn from anger to fury. You ungrateful child, you're helping your family for once in your pathetic life, you should be grateful, my initial plans for you aren't this gracious, I planned on selling you to a rich friend of mine her father said as Samantha stared at him in shock and disgust. How can you do that? I'm your daughter too, why do you hate me? Samantha asked, her pain evident in her tone. "I will do anything I want with you, Samantha, because you belong to me," David said, his voice lowering to a dangerous tone. "So, if you fail us, if you disgrace this family, I won't hesitate to end your pathetic life myself." Samantha's eyes widened in horror at the threat from her own father. She had always known he was ruthless, but she never imagined he would threaten to kill her. Father, please... she pleaded, her voice trembling. No more begging, David interrupted, his eyes piercing into hers. Today, you will fulfill your duty to this family. And if you don't, you know the consequences. Okay, father, Samantha agreed with a heavy heart and a mind filled with fear. Now that you've regained your senses, let's head to the chapel; your husband is waiting, her father said as he held onto her hand and pulled her out of the room. He composed himself once they were outside and put a smile on his face as he led a scared Samantha to the chapel, with the hired bridesmaids following behind them. Once they reached the chapel, David leaned in and whispered, Smile and behave yourself, or I will make good on my threat. Yes, father, Samantha said, her tone devoid of emotion as she put on a fake smile before allowing David to lead her down the aisle. Once the large door opened up, everyone's gaze fell on her, and she felt herself growing nauseous by the minute. After calming her nerves, she finally looked up to see the man she was getting married to, and he was very handsome. He was tall with a powerful, athletic build that commanded attention. His short, dark hair was impeccably styled, and his piercing sapphire-blue eyes were focused on her, which made her initial fear come back. As she walked down the aisle, her steps felt like a march towards her own demise. As she stood beside the groom, she couldn't shake off the feeling of impending doom. Welcome everyone to this joyous occasion as we join Solomon David and Donna Williams in holy matrimony, the priest began as he continued to say some necessary things that Samantha couldn't quite hear because her mind was somewhere else. You may now say your vows, the priest announced. Solomon, her husband-to-be, started first by saying his vows, which Samantha found sweet, but they weren't meant for her; they were meant for her sister Donna. She was just an imposter in her sister's dress, which made Samantha feel very sick. She wished for a way out of this nightmare, but she knew she was trapped with nowhere to escape. She wondered what he would do when he found out she wasn't Donna but Samantha. When Solomon was finished with his vows, Samantha said the vows her father had prepared with as much emotion as she could before the priest took over again. And as the priest uttered the words, You may now kiss the bride, Samantha braced herself for whatever fate awaited her. As Solomon lifted the veil, his eyes widened in surprise, but he quickly composed himself. Who are you? he asked angrily, his voice barely audible over the murmurs of the guests. Samantha swallowed hard, her hands trembling slightly. I'm not Donna, she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. You and your family have some explaining to do because I don't know what the hell is going on, Solomon whispered, his anger evident in his voice as his hold on her tightened to the point where it hurt. You're hurting me, Samantha whispered as Solomon glared down at her. Do I look like I care? Solomon whispered, but then they were drawn out of their conversation when the priest cleared his throat. Is there a problem? he asked. No, Solomon said as he placed a quick kiss on Samantha's face. I pronounce you husband and wife, the priest said, sealing both of their fates.
