CHAPTER 15 I wore a suede vest over my tunic, and my knife—not the corvo—in a sheath on my belt. It was a cloudy morning, and there was an unseasonable chill in the air. I wasn’t complaining. Spending day after day in the sun, in the heat, was wearing me down. Rasheed gave me the morning off, instead of the entire day. I was going to enjoy it and the grey weather. I hid the cloak, staff, dagger, and gloves under the hay of my bed. Rasheed made it clear I should always dress appropriately from now on. I didn’t feel comfortable wearing the new belongings. As powerful as I felt in them when with Rasheed, I felt as equally uncomfortable in them when alone. They made me feel like I was dressing in a costume; trying to be someone I wasn’t.
